Garden Photos - Part 26

Thomaston, CT

Thanks, Pixie---I believe it is an OT because of its height---what I've been calling JE looks nothing like that photo! LOL--that's what I get for tossing the tags!

Nice 'Dueling DL's", Robin and Celeste! Pretty tiger lily. That's one type I have never grown. Just wanted to show the size of this bloom. It is about 10 1/2 inches.

Thanks for the bed picture pixy. What a beautiful assortmrnt

The hibiscus show has begun. Not sure which one I have. Bought it a few years back with a tag that said 'Eruption' but that one has pink blooms. So it's a NOID for now. This year it got attacked by the hibiscus sawfly, I'm just happy to see it survived the attack. Huge blooms with dark foliage, 4 1/2 ft tall...any guesses?

Thanks, Celeste. Not quite right. There's just so many of them I think I'll have to put it up on the Hibiscus Forum. I like it with or without a name though!!

Just awesome everyone!!! Love them all!! keep 'em coming!

DyanesGarden:

'Dixie Belle' is what I have and it looks a lot like that

Or is that :

Hibiscus moscheutos L.
crimsoneyed rosemallow

Or .... maybe even 'Old Yella' ... That might be the best guess.

Trying to catch up!! Victor [this is in response to your pic from the previous thread] you always seem to be ahead of me with blooms. Your Belamcanda is blooming, while mine is still in bud.

Everyone's pics are beautiful!
Celeste, I love Border Lord!

I have a lot of work this weekend. I went away last weekend and came back to wilted tomatoes! It seems that I need to rethink my watering of that particular area. They have since recovered. I have to clean up some of my beds too. They are getting jungle like!

Is that a rufus? Great shot!

WNYwillieB, thanks for the suggestions. I'm getting thrown on the ID because of the foliage. The color of the leaves is dark like Kopper King but the flower color is not as pink as that one. The blooms look very similar to the ones you suggested.

great pic's everyone - i've been building an arc just in case and have not been able to get any shot's lately with all the rain.

Celeste the cleome are easy to grow and they reseed like crazy. i need to weed them out every year when they start growing.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice Celeste - I like Laura. Nice survivor, Jo Ann. Bill, how will you take all the stones??!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i usually bring back a stone or two, mostly quartz. I can fit them in the storage hatch of the kayak while on the river and bury them under tent and other gear from the wife.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

DyanesGarden: I did a google image search of Kopper King and a bunch of the photos that showed up were pale / white, like yours, along with some pinkish ones ..... I think you are quite right, though I am by no means an expert on Mallows. Maybe, it just depends on the amount of sunlight for the blush to show up.

This was my google image search (quotes included):

"kopper king"

DG cuts off the URL half way through, so I cannot put a link to there for you.

Guess who's adding a kopper king to his yard ........

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Foliage does look like KK. How large are the blooms? KK is huge.

finally stopped raining and is a bit brighter and humidity is going out.

Yeah, I finally get to catch up! Tomorrow is the big day...Paul and I are going to the N. Arboretum...and since we will have the car, I can actually see it all. I went to the National Aquarium, thus far the only museum that we had to pay for...it's in the basement of the Commerce building...that was a disapointment. For those of you who haven't been here, I would highly recommend coming down to the Capitol. The gardens are huge, and are everywhere...I couldn't possibly take pictures of them all. Every major building has gardens sourrounding it, every building has giant cement planters, and the plantings are all lush. Block upon block of flowering annuals...wow is all I can say. Every building has a surprise...

Ok...I'm so excited about tomorrow...I can't wait to get home to see if my Hibiscus bloomed, it had just started to bud before we left on Sunday.

I'm jealous of everyones blooms, especially the DL's and the Hibiscus!

Thomaston, CT

Love the hibiscus, too--Kopper King may be on my list! I know they are slow to bloom in CT, but I may try! Can't believe the size of the bloom, Victor--Pixie--where did you get Laura H.? I must have that one! Here is a sunflower on a cloudy day.
