New MG's for me 2008 #3
Beautiful!
Beautiful indeed.
Helena - I started new seeds of my Moonflower vine about 3 weeks ago. And they are starting to climb up my trellis. I can't wait for them to bloom. I am especially fond of Moonflower blooms! They are one of my favorites for night blooming plants!
I have finally gotten a lot of night blooming plants to grow in my yard. At night the scent is amazing! 4 O'clocks, Brugmansia, Tuberosa, Jasmine, and some other scents that I can't ID yet. LOL! We have had a lot of rain for over a month now. If it wasn't for the mosquitos at night, I'd enjoy it all even more! And of course, all that rain has spread the rust fungus to every one of my MG vines now. But I guess with MGs it's always something that attacks them. If it isn't insects, it's fungus, or some other disease. They are such a tender plant. They need to toughen up!
We need to create a disease and pest resistent MG! And one that has blooms that stay open all day! :-) I want the perfect hardy MG vine! LOL!
Becky, it does have a nice scent. I also grow several different colors of 4 o'clocks & I have a gardenia plant & a yellow jasmin ? sp that's not the vine but a bush.
I'm not crazy about the bugs that seem to go for the mg's. I'm starting to see them too. Last year towards the end a few got aphids bad that I thought about not growing them again. I'd go for the perfect MG vine but tomorrow is a new day & I think I'll have a few more that are new to me!!
Very nice moonvine Helena. Wish I had started a few.
Helena----your Moonflower is gorgeous.........
I finally have some buds on mine.....YEAH! I grew this one in a pot, half shade half sun, and still it wilts in our afternoon 90's plus heat. But it's going to bloom none the less.
Do the blooms last long? I never planted MG's before......put alot of seed out this year....my one gorgeous purple one gave us two flowers then got ate by the deer. I have some Moonflower other than this, but they are still very small. This one in the pot seems the best.
Nice & exciting to see those buds Morganc. My vine is in a pot too & trellis didn't make the buds until it reached the highest part, I had to stand in a chair to get the first picture. I have to water my vines everyday about noon they all start to wilt too but the blooms are worth the trouble.
Joseph, yes it is! I separated the blue vine that was growing together to go another direction. I hope to get true seedss from that one.
I can't wait to get mine started! Your last photos take my breath away.....
All lovely Helena. Your Lavender Mist shimmers like satin.
OMG.............Lavender Mist sparkles!!!
Are they planted in shade?
Thanks, I know you're enjoying these as much as I. They are planted in morning shade, get at least 2 hours or more of sun. Need to be watered every other day unless they start to wilt then I water them daily.

I wonder if dew or some other natural effect causes some blooms to shimmer like that? I have seen that on some of my blooms, too!
Helena - All of yours are just amazing! I am enjoying your blooms very much! Thanks for sharing them here! :-)
Helena -
Holy cow!

Unusual and beautiful
Be sure to tag this bloom so you can see what it will produce for you next time.
Is this on the Fujishibori vine?
Or another?
It is definitely a cross with Fujishibori.
Neat!
Emma
SO AWESOME -
Curious now if this is only a mutation or if the entire vine is from a *Cross*.
Either way, I love it!
Emma
Absolutely real beauties!!!
Thank you Emma, I'm still enjoying the Fujishibori bloom. There's quite a few awesome mg's that game from your garden. I went to check the vine that has that bloom is a mature one that is branching off into another one that will be having more blooms. I'll be able to tell if it has similar blooms.
Thanks Ronnie, planted a few more mg vines into the ground to enjoy later on. The rain has missed my area again & man is it hot here.
Bloom from my broken blue tie dye vine in water.
Just incredible blooms you're getting Helena.
Beautiful Morning Glories! I really love the Lavendar Mist. Helena where did you get that one. I would love to have it for next year.
Lin
Thanks Jackie & Lin. I got the Lavender Mist from Emma, it's very pretty. I'm getting lots of blooms from it now and I see seed pods forming. I like big blooms. I hope next year I'll have a better plan of which plants go next to who for crosses.
