happgarden, seems like you have a jungle growing there, me too, hee, hee, CLEMEN

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Sure looks like a jungle right now....LOL. I don't think the garden has ever been this out of control. I am going to use grass killer tomorrow, cause I can't win! Not big on chemicals but.....

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

I HEAR YA, going to do the same tomorrow morning, i already warned DH, Clem

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I call it water grass, but I am sure it has another name, and it roots at every joint and it is raining here every 3 days, which is not normal and this stuff is spreading like wild fire.

Which I had some MM's, think I need chocolate!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I dream of acres.....zzzzzzzzzzz.......
Love ya hotties,nite nite!!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

nite Kim.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

OK, I am getting ready to go out slug hunting! The great hunter here. If I find a snake it will be all over with. I may live in the country, but the people in the city will be able to hear me!...wish me luck

Made it back alive, but no thanks to my black cat who kept jumping out of the plants!
Versi is taller than me in the pot. I am 5'4'' and I tipped one leaf down and some big worm came flying off at me, wasn't expecting that.
Found little green worms, need to go back up and look at AuntB's pictures, found about 5 of them, plus one big worm. They have made swiss cheese out of Versi, but no more!

Oh good hunting! I am bummed about you not going to the round up. I was going to bring your brug babies then! Can I leave them on your porch? lol

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I am bummed also, I really wanted to go to the ru.
Missed the spring one.
I have already committed to this and payed my money for the condo and the classes. I don't have anything to do all summer and the two things I want to do are scheduled on the same weekend......go figure.

DH is ready to have me commited, going out in my pj's and bug hunting at 11:30 at night! LOL...good hunting trip tho.

You can leave them with DH, he stays home with the pups and takes care of the business while I go play. Darn sure hate missing the ru!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

See what you can find, when you go sneakin' around in the dark?!!! BHOOOHAAAAA!!!!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I am more worried I would get eaten by the darn mosquitoes!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I use a combo of skin so soft and deep woods off and STILL get bitten : (

Hi Hotties, it's a hot one out there today. Ran me out before 10 a.m. I'm lounging this afternoon. I have a big long list of things to research. Beck, Peg has her DD visiting this weekend. She'll be back here later on today, I hope. Well, Joyce you can't make the fall RU, DARN! Whoooohoooo!! Congrazt! nice plumie : ) Does it smell yummie?? I smelled some once...heavenly. I made that pot from a kit... the hair is dill kept shaved ; }

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Dill? Wow, very interesting. It does smell Kim! Even in the hot sun! And since I don't have any brugs blooming, it smells better than brugs, today!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Afternoon ladies. Bonnie it is hot today and humid. Just keep running out long enough to check on the pots that are needy for watering. I am inside today making a huge pan of stuffed cabbage with dirty rice. A lady I work with has metastatic lung cancer and is down to 87 pounds, so I told her I am taking over the duty of fattening her up. She has been taking chemo for years off and on, and experimental drug therapy. She is such a sweetheart and hardly ever misses work. She is down to eight hour shifts instead of our twelves though.
I finally got all the new hoyas potted up yesterday and still cannot believe how many there are, alot complete with blooming spurs. Another first for me, a hoya mom. I really want citrus trees next, oh and some bananas!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

What a kind thing to !!! I love dirty rice, she will be happy : )We are having a heatwave here too! I started a Meyer lemon from seed and have a bunch of nanners if I get pups I will put your name on some : )

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I thought I saw nanners in your jungle! lol

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

94* here, now!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Louise, that's xactly what I'm doing. Going out there in short intervals. . Nanners? I have had a Basjoo in the ground and wintered over in the basement. For winter, I fashioned a laundry basket with leaves, mulched if first. Planted close to the foundation on south. It needs warmth to grow so it takes forever to wake up in spring. It didn't really grow back very well so I guess I didn't mulch well enough (used the basket on a hydrangea or something) and it didn't come back the next spring. So THIS year, there I am on my nursery tour vaca and see the most beautiful Ensete... for a bargain price......of course it came home with me, I AM a HOTTIE, I can't pass up a bargain and I hadn't seen them in MY area... I also got another one, can't remember the name. lol So, to make a long story EVEN longer... :) I purchased them both, thinking [I'm NOT wintering them over, I'll just swap them or send out for postage]-Right!! lol I love them both, it's ONLY 2 more pots to haul in, right? I have the extra lighting and I can add another, if necessary.. probably have to ANYWAY with all the new brugs and hibs, ETC ;) I've..ehem..acquired this year :)

I got the cabbage part.. would you share your recipe? Hi Audrey :) It's 98 feels like 102, 35% humidity. Steamy baby, steamy. Feels like a sauna in the shade!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

it says 92 in the shade of the porch here and nooooo breeze at all!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

sure it's easy. This was a family recipe modified by my 90 year old polish aunt. I always make double coz if you are going to the trouble you may as well make enough to freeze, it microwaves really well. 1 recipe. 1lb hamburger 1lb sausage, 1 box cooked zatarains dirty rice 1 egg. mix well. 1 large cabbage (remove core) and steam leaves loose. roll leaves and shred all leftover cabbage and line large baking pan. lay rolled cabbages in layers and top with polish sweet and sour sauce. equal parts tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes , simmer with garlic, brown sugar and cider vinegar to taste (you can add any other herbs you like too). Pour hot sauce over cabbages and bake at 325 covered 3 hours if you double recipe. (if you double recipe 1 very large can ea of the tomatoes is perfect.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

oh I love your nanner!! how pretty! I am sure you will find some room somewhere kim! I plan to do the dig it up and stick it in the basement thingy.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Lavender, that sounds great, I like to have meals on hand in summer. I'm going to get the zatarains and try it this week. Thank you. The Polish sweet and sour sauce... I can buy it off the shelf? Kim, it has really grown, but when I recognized the leaves, I knew it wouldn't be left behind. How can you not bring them in? The basjoo, I just dug and stored, watered a few times.. it didn't take up too much room.. maybe you could try that? I'll winter over that Siam Ruby, ifin' ya want me to :) :) Might grow too big to send back, tho.... lol

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Funny AuntB!! oh I will try to overwinter them all : ) you get a SR pup that way if it don't make it......

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Kim, do you have a greenhouse? Where to you put your "keepers"? :)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Here Hotties, check this out... I don't know what in heavens I was doing on the plant trading forum, but I ran across this about re-using priority mail boxes for other than Priority Mail.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/879435/

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

LMBO I almost sprayed the screen : ) my greenhouse is a spare bedroom... this year it will include the basement ;o} really gets on my DH"s nerves he he he!!

(Cathy), MO

I'd heard that too. Also it's illegal to tape over and try to use a flat rate box for anything other than flat rate. I found that out for myself! :-)

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

The gals at PO told me..

(Cathy), MO

I actually had an employee do that on a box I sent last fall. Taped over the words "flat rate" and sent it as Priority. So naturally, I tried it the next time I sent something in a flat rate box. And got told very plainly, I couldn't do that. Kind of confusing!! Anyway, I got the message! :-)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Aint that something. Kim, didn't mean to startle you. lol Guess you dream of one, also. So, with the basement and the bedroom, you have a lot more room this year! :) Poor DH.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I HAD a stash of old windows to build one my sweety tossed them in the name of organization..might just do me some organizing ; }

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh, Kim. Sorry. That is what I'd like to do. I think it would look cool. I still haven't gotten back out south to inquire about the big metal hoop one. (I know Peg or Beck were going to bring it up, so I just covered myself, there, tehe-don't tell them) I need to put that closer to the top on my list.
