Garden Photos part 24

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

Too funny!! Last summer when my first daughter was born I asked to be released early so I recuperate on my back porch at home and enjoy the gardens. So much more pleasant than a hospital room.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No doubt. Not to mention you had already prepared a great 'nursery' for her!

I just love waking up to this thread every morning. The DLs we have are mostly still first year babies, so I can't wait until they are 'older' and give a better scene, as it were. In the meantime, it sure is great to read and learn from everyone else here.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Fantastic flowers everyone, I love looking in and seeing all these special beauties.

A new day, a new DL conundrum...FFO on this No ID DL

A nice little lily opened today....very pretty yellow but short. Could be because I just planted it this spring but I don't reconize it either! LOL

I went shopping yesterday, I know, a dangerous thing. The same garden center that I got the peony 'Bartzella' from, is having a clearance. All of their plant material is 50% off...Victor, they had (as of yesterday) 2 'Shirazz' left...at 50% off...lol. (Did the math again, with our sales tax included, comes to $123.49!...for 5-6') Not twisting your arm, not at all :-)

I purchased 2 Echis...lol...'Harvest Moon' and 'Coconut Lime'...for 1 gallon, they came to $4.50 each! I also purchased 2 'Mariesii' Doublefile Viburnum, 1 Saffron Spray Cypress (3 gallon pot), 1 Soft Touch Pine (3 gallon pot), and 1 Golden Threadleaf Cypress (3 gallon pot). My grand total for the day was just shy of $90; so I feel I didn't do any harm. I went up there looking for the dogwood 'Wolf Eyes' and they were sold out :-/

Here is 'Harvest Moon'

That might be it. I planted a whole slew of them I bought from Oake's last year, I planted them all in the same area, couldn't find the tag on that one. It has to be it! Thanks pix :-)

Here is a not so great pic of 'Coconut Lime'

I really like 'Baby Blues.' I think I'm going to need to get rid of the note pad I have up here...lol.

A lovely dark noid....it has a name but I couldn't find the tag.

I walked out onto our deck today, and smelled something, I was like, what the heck is that...so, I started sniffing...and came upon this...totally shocked. I guess the flower bud was hiding under the huge leaves!

Here is the variegated brug 'Peach Parfait'

Thom...you like big flowers right? This one amazes me every year when it blooms.

Here is a pic of the brug with more of the huge leaves.

Pix, I do tend to like DL's with the large flowers! I just won, well about 2 weeks ago, 'Persues Sandals.' I can't wait for that to bloom next year! The flower is supposed to be anywhere from 8-10" on it, and it is not a spidery type...looks like a regular DL bloom!

I know that there was a mild "competition" awhile back...ok, it was suggested, not actually a competition...on who can grow the biggest elephant ears...lol. Here is the corner of the deck now...lol...These things are so obnoxious I love them!

Here is the corner that has the Banana Canna in it, with other Elephant Ears, and the Brug that surprised me with the bloom...

Some mini DL's....not much bigger than your finger.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Your EE are huge! I'm going to try them next year..iv'e never grown them before.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

The Banana Canna in my previous post is already well over 6' tall, almost 7' but not quite there yet. I can't wait for the Tye Dye Morning Glories to start blooming on it...they have formed a small bushy vine growing up the whole thing!

Here is a little cropped pic of one of my containers. There are 3 of the Rosy Dawn Coleus in there, along with some mixed ones, and some Caladiums I picked up at Lowe's or HD. The reddish coleus to the left, is a RD, the trailing one up and to the middle is a RD coleus (Trailing Plum I believe) and the one to the right with the greenish center is the other RD coleus.

I think my biggest problem with the mini DL's, along with the mini hostas, is placement. It just boils down to that. There are some Stamiles and Morss that I would love but they are all under 3", and I know I would plant them, and something would end up towering over them, and they would get lost.

The manager at the garden center that I worked at was dividing her beds, and she has almost every Siloam that is out there, and offered me some, but I declined, unless they were larger flowered...she just laughed at me. I just know how I garden...lol.

Pix, they are all stunning, I really like the one with the really super saturated dark eye!

This is another dark one...small but not mini. "Beaming Blessing's"

I'll be placing a small order with Forest Farm, again lol, in September. The nursery that had the Oxydendrum for sale are out of them :-/ I may have to order Wolf Eyes, and the Oxy from FF.

Another morning of drooling! Very nice photos--you folks make great choices in varieties---even the "mistakes" are worthy! I'm reposting lily OT Satisfaction since it didn't print in the meltdown.
