She's about to ....#6 : )

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Cat, how bout that. Finding you here!! I'm trying to learn. I've got 3 and a cutting on the way, but they are babies. One is about 2 ft tall, one about 6 inches. lol

Should I pot the really small one up. I'm bad about getting stuff in the ground, cause I'm impatient. Don't know why I think that will make it grow faster. About how big are they when they start putting on blooms.? I know I won't get any this year, but still want to know what to look for.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

In Zone 8, Lorraine, I predict you WILL have blooms this year. Pottem up- feed em- water-em... they burst out with growth for you. Different brugs growth differently. Some grow shorter, some grow taller, and some depends on where and what they are growing in. I need to pot up some tomorrow, they're growing so fast.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

You said feed them. Is there something special to use? I sure have a lot of questions don't I. Ya'll are gonna run 'Beck out of town for giving me the link!!!

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

AuntB how do you over winter your passies? and hello hotties!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

wow Amanda... great pics... now to envision mine getting that large.. well a girl can dream right??I I was real close to you yesterday as we went to Houston then went to Rollover Pass... then to Galveston back to Houston... no wonder my back was killing me..lol

Hey Mz.. Bonnie.. been wondering about you!! Since you have all your marbles back.. you don't love us no more?? hmmm??? I think I am going to start placing my brug pots in areas that I want to put them in the ground and see how they do. I know they will do much better in the ground.. I am checking all my babies but especially Dr Suess that I got at the RU.. since she is large, I am thinking I will have buds on her first... gotta get a camera!! I will be 1 proud Momma when I get buds!!

Yep Peg... I am one that KNOWs I am a hottie.. sweating bullets... some girls on here say you "glow" or "glisten".. hehe NOT ME!! You are NOT working too hard right Peg??

Lorraine.. Bonnie told me you want a nice lil root ball before you pot up.. if that helps.. I am going to retell my lil story about my cousin that lives close by me.. for those that haven't heard it.. She has a NOID white brug.. in the ground that gets sun all day.. especially the hot afternoon sun.. she doesn't fertilize.. rarely waters... the poor things leaves are yellow.. but it will have the biggest flushes!!.. So I am thinking they do like neglect to some extent!

TTYL!! Hottie sis's!!.. where's Clemie??

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

.I received a nice box today from Kimarj. Mailman runs so late in the day and I got so excited when DH brought it in to me. She sent me a brug. yellow Noid, and I have her potted up and she can be a companion to the larger brug ZZs sent me. That sure made my day. Thank you so much Kim, I'll take care of her.

Beck, Hottie Sis Beck, I have not forgotten any of you "old" Hotties ;) , or the new hotties, either. We were finishing up a project that required my attention and action, so I had responsibilities, my dear.... I fed brugs and hibiscus last night, DD helped water, ate and turned in early. It's been quite an exciting week for this old Hottie, Hon! Where IS our HahaHOTTIE Clemen?? She has P.Beauty blooms and maybe blooms on her variegated, too! Joyce, my Hottie Sis, how do your brug buds grow? Still buds? I'm getting the step ladder out there tomorrow, I just know (hope) I have buds that I can't see from the ground...and I need to do a little leaf clean up. Where's Melissa? Lorraine, I feed them 20-20-20.. mix it half strength the first few times. I just sprinkle half to 2TB on the potting mix and water in. I've worked up to full strength 2X a week, The big 25 gal tub brugs get 2T, 2X a week and I adjust according to brug and pot size. I've been feeding like that for probably a month..I read somewhere on the forum from Kim the exotic or Clem or Kimbob, maybe if I back off on the fertilizer it will signal them to form the little "ocra" we all yearn for so much. Since it's time to purchase more food, I may have to try Kenboy's Recipe.. It's tough to find 20-20-20 around here. I like the idea the recipe is organic., but I'm not sure about the smell...

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Awe, she's such a sweet lil Hottie! Congrats, Pegi!

Here's one of my coleus pots.. for some color, Hotties...and it's kind of a hot color.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Beautiful color on that coleus AuntB. I don't have much shade around so I never tried growing any coleus. So happy with my brugs and plumeria now, will be content for a while.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Pegi, it is a Sun Coleus... the more sun the more vivid the color..

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I love that coleus planter, very pretty with the sp vine too. Nice combo. A flower for the hotties. Magnus seedling blooming this year.

awwww young hotties. Yes B, Magnus is a coneflower. Unfortunately all my Magnus got aster yellows this year and had to be destroyed. I am growing out all my seedlings for resistance to aster yellows.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Gee, never heard of a sun coleus, but then I never heard of a brug until I joined DG. I may have to look into that, but first priority is my new brugs, want them to love me as much as I love them. Kimarj had sent me some cuttings too that I overlooked when I saw the rooted brug. So now have more babies to tend. Just hope I don't lose them. I'm watching a cutting of vixen that thought had passed over, but new leaves have sprouted up so I'm hopeful. Hoping my thumb will turn greener with help from all of you.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I've never heard of aster yellows, Lavender.. is it a virus? Clemen, I'm so happy for you and your blooms, it's very exciting... Your young ones are true HOTTIES indeed, very beautiful, Clemen, like their parents.. now, I do understand. Glad you will check in, I'll be out in the brug "bed" on the ladder and in the potting soil. Ah, life is good! I'm calling it a day, Hot Ones Good night!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi all!
I havent had time to read up on this thread! lol!
building a chicken coop and learning to can salsa tomorrow.... so I've been doing lots of homework on both projects! lol! It'll be a buzy weekend for me!

I'll move the budding brug to some shade for now, but it did perk up a little when I watered it last night. We had a few hot days and now its cooling off, so not sure if it was the heat or the water...but she's looking much better tonight! whew! I was worried!

I'll try to check in this weekend, between canning and building :o)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Pegi, you're doing fine..ask away on specific stuff, we'll tell ya. I wanted to tell Lavender, I'll tell you about the passie care tomorrow, I didn't forget your question.. I'm (yawwwwwwwwn) tired. -B

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

zzzzzzzzzzzz AuntB, tried to watch a movie with dh tonight and fell asleep, so now i m being an owl, hate it.......Clemen

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

aster yellows is a virus yes. affects many different varieties of garden plants. first time I have seen it here. Must be all the rain we had. rain, lush growth and bugs=problems.

Hello Ladies,

These are my new babies, hard to say babies as they are between 2 and 3’ tall. This pic was taken on Wednesday night right after I took them out of the packing tube and put them in pots. I added the support incase it got windy, I’m not sure if that’s necessary but I thought it would be safer for the first few day until the roots take. I have them where they get morning sun, close to the house to protect against winds. I would have preferred full light shade for a while but I won’t be able to move the pots for some time due to a healing back problem. I watered with ST to keep the transplant shock down.

I’m not sure if what I did was right or wrong so please post comments and suggestions. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Donna

Good morning Hotties, how is everyone today on this early Sat.

Hi Donna, I see those brugs look pretty tall to me and i think you did the right thing by protecting them against the hot mid day sun for the first couple of days. I'm sure they will be fine. But then again, i'm no expert, hee, hee.

This is my variagated brug, with some buds, so cute!

Thanks Clemen, Looks like you’ll have blooms real soon. Can’t wait to see. I’ll be waiting a long time for these, but the plants look really good. I have to write a good review for them. I ordered on Sat and rec’d on Wed, that’s fast service. I’m impatient and hate to wait for plants so I’m very happy with them.
Donna

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

What are their names Donna? You know most of my brugs are showing little buds, even cuttings that I received in May from a donor, i am so thrilled. Remember the Dat seedlings from your thread, i lost some of them already, very strange, dats don't like me or what?
Clem

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

From Seed Sprout
Ecuador pink
Jerad’s Joy
New Orleans lady

I also have Cassie curls and Ecuador pink from another source. Cassie’s Curls just arrived on Thursday and I order them on 6/6. The other Ecuador pinks came about a week after ordering, all were very small but they were both buy one get two free, not the best but not bad for the price. I wanted something that would bloom this summer so I got the above from Seed Sprout. So all total I have 9 in less than 3 weeks. I guess I’m addicted.
Sorry to hear about you baby dats, not sure what could have happened to them. I think mine are all alive. It’s hard to tell, I have a mass of seedlings out on the deck that I started before I popped my hip. I really need to get a garbage bag and clean them out but I just can’t seem to get myself to trash them. I keep hoping I’ll be able to get them in the ground.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Good morning hotties! It sounds like we are ALL busy... Donna, isn't it crazy how quick your brugs multiply?? Congrats to you and Pegi on your new babies.

Okay at my house, first DH fell at work yesterday and landed hard on his right hand. It looks really, really bad. One finger was angled and the dear sweetheart reset it himself. Now, he has five sausages and a baseball for a hand. So I'm playing nurse this weekend and trying (threatening him) to go to the doctor. I now have the proverbial one-armed paperhanger. So, I am going to be busy with that.

I also have to get ahold and straighten out a roofer who caved in my 80-year-old mother's garage door and then cussed her out three times, when she refused to pay. She finally paid, but nothing was done to fix her garage door. That man's life is getting ready to get miserable, because now I am really HOT...

Got to feed and water, etc, everything this weekend. Also, I have a bed of irises that need desperately to be divided, but what is driving me nuts, these flowers I can trace back to about 40+ years to their original owner, and I learned that some of the irises from then are now considered "heirloom." This was before my DG time and I have nary a picture of these to make any identification. So, if anyone would care for some noid "older" irises, let me know. (It's a big bed, so it may take me awhile).

Have a good day everyone. I don't know when I will be back on, but will try my best to check in. Lov ya, Peg

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Peg, Sounds like you have your hands full. Good luck with the DH, he needs to have that looked at. You’ll be in just the right mood to go after the garage guy, he’s going to wish he had just fixed it before. Good luck with all.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Mornin hotties! Lovely cool overcast day here. Nice break from the high 90's heat we had. Time to go do some repotting while it's nice.

(Cathy), MO

Good morning everyone. Looking rainy this morning, but sometime over the weekend I am going to get the brugs in the ground out front. I will post pictures when I do. Have a super day all

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Cat, what fun, do post pics! Gosh, we've got at least 4? Midwest Hottie Sis's, we can have a mini Hottie RU at the MW RU this fall! lol, We should paint our cheek with a little hot pink brug bloom or something in honor! lol Hope we're all going to be able to make it to Pepper's Gma's! Louise, it's cool and raining here, no bud hunting right now. Peg, DH is a real man resetting his own broken bones.. better get him to the dr.. at least for something for the pain, I'm sure it's still "smarting"... and at work? Workers Comp, did anyone make out an incident report? (he sounds like my BIL, won't go until he's made everyone else miserable with his whining), no offense intended to your DH Peg, but I can relate to determination (bull-headedness, some people call it).lol I'm interested in your red heirloom iris, I have some plain ol lavendar ones, or I can send postage.. Donna, yep, your hopelessly addicted. Welcome. If there are brugs you want in particular, post a want and maybe some of us have it and can send cuttings sometime. I've been composing this post for an hour I think, phone is interrupting me...

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Well it's afternoon now Hotties.. sooo Afternoon!! My dh had a tree guy out here at 9 this... a.m. and forgot to tell me.. here I am just waking up ..in my gown.. with just a few sips of coffee in me... HECK..lol.. he has just left... and I am already pooped with nothing to show for it except helping him ....It's sooo dry here my plants are screaming at me.. so I did water some before I came in to "water" myself..hehe. WELCOME Donna.. Congrats!! yep ... you have the addiction bad.. but at least you have lots of company here!! PEG... I want some Iris when you start on that bed!! PLEASE??? GOSH.. he reset it himself??? I sure feel for him!! And that guy needs his butt wore out first for saying anything out of the way to your Momma.. second for doing crappy work.. go get him.. if you need help.. i'lI come running... ohh that makes me mad!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Becky, everyone must be out in their garden. It's almost stopped raining here and I'm going out there and get busy myself! (I have changed from my jammies, lol actually wearing a sweatshirt! and..... slacks! teehee) Get that Roofer, Peg, shameful of him! He sure don't want us Hotties ganging up on him! Donna your new big babies look good and sound good to me. Watch for new growth, then we'll know they are. And Welcome to the Hottie Sis's brug thread! I've seen you around on the brug forum, haven't I? (u ben lurkin'?)

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I just received three of the biggest, prettiest brug cuttings from Hi!---Braveheart's mom! She included a card, guess what was on it!! A Dandylion Fairy! He's so cute! Wish I had one just like him to go in my Fairy Garden!
The cuttings are named.
Thanks, Jenny!

Hottie ALERT - Lavendar Louise! Here's how I do passies in fall/winter. I have 3 that have wintered over for years. They are in pretty big pots, 1 in a 25 gal, like by big brugs. They have about a 4ft trellis stuck inside the pot. They are all blooming by fall, some more profusely (curela and Lavendar Lady put on quite a show all summer) Purple Haze is slow to bloom sometimes just starting as it's time to bring in, but it still provides foliage and the blooms are worth waiting for... I reach up about a ft or 2 above the trellis and snip them away from the lattice they've climbed on all summer. It feels quite mean, but they would surely die. This is when cuttings can be taken from the growth tips that are left on the lattice. I sprayed them last year and will again this year with Anti Stress 2000, (a plastic polymer coating, there's a thread on testing it on the brug forum) You don't have to do the anti stress, I will because I have it. I let it dry, we haul it to the basement and if there isn't much light they will drop all their leaves, with more light they continue to grow slowly. Less light, less water. Don't let them totally dry out and try to keep the pot elevated off the cold cement floor with pieces of 2X4 or something to keep the chill of their little roots. My plant area down there stays above 50 degrees. I use a little space heater when outside temps dip to 0. This year, I want to keep it 60, so I'm hanging plastic and hope that helps keep the warmth in there. Smaller area, easier to control the environment. I want the 10 more degrees for my tropical hibiscus and brugs, especially. The passies did fine with 50. I also have 3 hanging fluorescent lights on timers, 12 on 12 off and fans for occasional air circulation and foliage stimulation. It's not raining, I'm outta here and in the brugs!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Audrey, you little Hottie brug collector you! Congrats! Is that 20 now? lol I like fairies, too. My fav is Cicely Mary Barker (or Mary Cicely? I'm dislexic too, remember? lol) The little fairy/herb pic I posted a while back is one of hers. Maybe the dandylion fairy is, too, they are named for flowers. (sorry Louise, I spelled your Lavender wrong on my above post).. gotta go play in the dirt!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Yeah AuntB, I’ve been lurken for a while just listening in. I finally got some good babies so I decided fess up. I got 3 a few weeks ago but they were kind of pathetic so I waited to post. They’ve grown quite a bit now I wish I had taken pics when I first got them. Here are the new ones I received last Thursday; I order them on 6/6.

Thumbnail by DONNA_11
South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

These looked like the little ones above when I got them; I’m not sure when, sometime in mid June. I know it was after I popped the joint in my hip because it darn near killed me to pot them up. Then I had to lie to the family and say the neighbor did it for me. Please excuse the weeds and long grass. I’m still not allowed to mow or whack.
