Trouble maker Peg and Kim are at it again, yippie, love my hottie sisters! Clemen

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Okay, I have four new brug cuttings definitely putting out leaves, Pink Noid (which I am renaming Pink Marble), Pink Beauty, Peach Versi and 1 itty bitty leaf on a Maya. My other three are still imitating sticks. Something is eating on my big brug and I cannot find it...something is also feasting on my hostas... again. So everybody's getting a bath soon...

Also, thanks to Kimbob's offer, I am soon going to begin the patient wait on Plumeria. If this does not teach me patience, nothing will. Brugs and Plumeria.

My DH has also offered to clean out space in the garage, which has no room for a car, to let me set up a "sort-of" greenhouse for the winter. I will have a window, a big counter with a sink, shelving and a small heater. He has suggested I get grow lights. Okay, hottie sisters and James, any other suggestions for these Brugs and Plumeria's winter home??

Got to cook dinner. Since I don't have a brug flower yet, I'm still the oddball and will post other flowers. This is another one of my news....

Just checking to say hello been reading the post but not posting. DS has me on a very tight schedule the remodeling of the former MIL suite into my crafting area so have been hard at work in the "dungeon". Oh please keep the information flowing.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

; } What trouble??? Hello Hotties!1 I have ben busy fed everyone 20-20 -20 then sprayed with a mix of the recipe and fish emulsion and top dressed with compost. Then apon closer inspection I found me some okra on my noids and some big ones on MEM...well 2 anyway : }.BTW those pics are from last year. You don't have to have a pic to start a new thread merpeg : ) And I love the passi! I have one that just will not bloom ; (

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Kim the exotic, I have one that won't bloom too. Have no clue what to do next--oh please don't ask name--it was a gift from a vendor at the festial I work with . Grows like crazy and gets some practically all day. One spot in my entire yard that does.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Congrats on those new found 'Okras' Kim! LOL. Hybrid passi, likes 'Lady Margaret' that Peg's posted above, didn't bloom until late in the season for me, when it did. But I lost that one over the winter. Some passi, are hardy in our zones, others especially those hybrids aren't.

FYI; one of my pink NOID I've long suspected to be that of 'Isabella'. Finally, I've other DGers also concurred my suspiscion. Well, last year I acquired 'Isabella' just to compare to my old-timer pink NOID, so here is Issabella in bloom. I also noticed some brugs once opened, they stay open. Others the corolla/trumpet will close off in the evening like Issabella. Here she's: (not fully opened yet).

Sounds like mines ..lol. Thing is growing like gangbusters I have given it bloom booster, fish emulsion ,MG no luck!! It's Lady Margaret.... your "dungeon" is going to be marvey : }

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Marion and Kim,
I just got that one and that is its second bloom. Two others came with it and one has buds and the other does not. But they really seem to like it here, so far...so I maybe getting blooming now, but not get any later?? They are in full sun in the mornings and shade in the late, hot evenings..

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Peg, I too have a makeshift greenhouse. I used my basement to store my tropical garden in the winter. Grow-light is expensive, but isn't neccessary. Good 'ole florescent lights will do the job, but you will need alot of them. Brugs/plumie require alot of light, I put them on timer 12 on/off schedule, you also need a couple box fans, some humidifier....or at least an humidy reading device to keep your gh in an optimum humidity level to keep those growing like a pro. would. Oh, I collect kiddy pool (plastic ones) from WM and K-mart to keep the floor from soggy wet, and water them very carefully so we don't promote fungi growth in the basement.

So, you bring your brugs in when it gets cold, would we do that here. I thought they could be left out. See how educated I am!!

I have several named EE's . Maybe when they get babies, some of you might like to trade. I love them. Will run out of room soon, lol
But I find places for named ones. Course the un named ones are giants compared to the named ones.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

LorraineR, in our zones, even mine brugs hard root-hardy perennial we just need to cut them back to the ground and mulch the base heavily. Only draw back, one year grow-brug won't yield flushes of many blooms, as those we often see posting on DG, those huge flushes of blooms belong to 2-3 year old brugmansias or older specimens that have been protected over the winter.
Kimbob.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I don't have any blooms yet, either! But they're putting on leaves like crazy! I've been feeding them once a week, maybe I'm not giving them enough! I give them plain MG. I also add Epsom Saltz .

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Mine are in a spot that is kind of dappled shade, under a tree. Is that ok? I had it in sun and it seemed to droop a lot. It gets sun but only a couple hours.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Doe41, seems like you're giving them a tad too much of fertilizer, typically, if they get too much food, they just make leafy growths and not forming buds.

Lorraine, it's normal for some brugs leaves to droop under our intense sunlight. Epsom salt 1 teaspoon/gallon of water supplement like Doe41 does, help to strengthening them in full sun condition. My neighbors neglect them in the sun all day, they look droopy but perk right back up when they get water.

There is a fine line, too much sun, the leave tend to droop, but if too much shade too, they won't have enough photosynthesis to adequate form flowers.....

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I also poured some on the leaves this times. They'll take nourishment through their leaves,

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Oh boy, I’ve got a lot to learn. I’ve been reading this thread for a while now and just got 3 burgs yesterday from Seed Sprout. There’re really nice, a lot of plant for the money. I’m going to need a lot of help.

I have one spot I'd like to put one that is shady in early morning, then sun, then shade late afternoon. Think that's ok?

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Lorraine, it sure does! Clemen

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Peg I don't know about OK but we have alot of tiny grasshoppers this year. Little stinkers keep chomping things. Question for the experts. Do you put saucers under your brug pots or do you let them root into the ground? I know they must... my little guys all tried to.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

When mines rooted in the ground they stopped blowing over : ) Well this hottie is all tuckered out!!
Nite zzzzzzzz........

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

looks nice and green!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Can I repot the brugs when they have buds? or will the re-potting put them in shock? the droopy brug was just potted up a few weeks ago.... but it is also my brug with buds...so i didnt want to shock it?!

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Do the grasshoppers make holes in the leaves. The ones I have all have holes in the leaves, and I've heard everything from slugs to catapillars. The only bug I've seen around is little bitty things jumping from leaf to leaf and hanging on the stems, (didn't actually see them on the brugs, it was sunflowers, but haven't seen anything else anywhere)

I've also been told to use everything from sevin dust to some herbal spray. Somebody help me please. I'm in bug #%*^

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Mine are making holes in leaves, yes very much so and there are alot of them. I am using sevin spray as needed on everything that is getting eaten. They are resistant to most sprays from what I understand though. It does seem to deter them, but I still see them around.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

anjl... I got a rooted cutting that had buds.. I potted it up and the buds fell off... but I really don't know if it was already stressed from the shipping, or if it would have done it by just repotting.. but I think I would leave it until after I saw the blooms.. just me though..

Lorraine.. I don't know about your problem either... where's the brug masters when we need them??But I read impatients don't like epson salt on them.. but lots do great with the addition of ES!!

Ohh.. there's the exotic again... making me smile ^_^ Nite!!

purty lavender!! I know TX has the grasshoppers, but we are run over with the stink and leafhopper bugs!!

Pegi.. she does like her new home... looking good!!

Yes... Clem.. I guess I now have a new nickname.. (red face here!) aw heck.. at least I got some of yall's attention..LOL
Clemie is ok too... BUT Clemencia sounds sooo refined.. like a brugs name should be!!...

OK.. back to the puter thing... even the pics look hard to me!!..lol

(Cathy), MO

Wow this is a fast moving bunch! I somehow lost the thread and you guys are 3 ahead of me now!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Oneanjl, I'd wait until your blooms are spend, debud them, and repot it then. At the mean time, try to keep it in a dappled shade area. When you do repot, avoid giving it liquid fertilizer, which will cause 'fertilizer burn'. If you would incorporate some slow released fertilizer such as Osmoscote into the potting soil that would work great.
Happy gardening,
Kim

Good morning everyone; I've Issabella blooming this morning.
Hi cat, welcome to our thread.

I wouldn't replant a brug with buds. I would hate to lose my buds!

Plants droop for a couple of different reasons and you can easily overwater drooping plants. Drooping can be the plants normal protective feature. Water is lost thru the sun shining on the leaves. When it gets hot the leaves automatically droop to make the leaf surface smaller so the plant doesn't have as much evaporation. Doesn't necessarily mean it needs water, the plant is just conserving water. Checking the soil is the only way to know if a plant needs water. Many a plant has been lost due to overwatering.

I now have buds on the Monster White brug. Only brug I don't have buds on is the triple.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh Lily, how pretty. I just swapped for Isabella, does she smell wonderful?

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow! You guys are FAST!!!

One question - are Brugs really not suppose to shade each other? Because mine are growing into each other and shading ech other some .... but are still growing very well and full. ??

Cat - how are we going to keep up with all of these fast-talkers/typers? :)

BTW - I don't understand the "hottie" term. Are we all "hotties" because we have Brugs? If so, I'll take that!! ;)

(Cathy), MO

Hi Kim. Morning Joyce. No buds yet for me, but I got mine out late. This is my first year so I wasn't sure how soon to move them outside.

(Cathy), MO

Hi Amanda! LOL, I have no idea. I can't keep up in alot of threads! I mostly check in from work during the week and can't always get on. Oh well, I'll catch up sometime! :-)

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Cat - I know what you mean!! I thought I was a fast typer! WOW, these Bruggie-lovers must be sitting out on the porch, laptops in hand and drinking lots of coffee!! I can't keep up! :) Although it is refreshing to see others so in love with Brugs.
