No problem. i just couldn't believe it when i found a 6pk of dwarf dahlias for $2! Usually i pay $3 for just one to kill every year. The woman at the nursery was not amused when i told her that. She started giving me really earnest dahlia care advice. sigh. i thought she was going to take them back!
Garden Photos - Part 22
Dawn-Love your clematis wall!
Amy-What a cute dahlia!
oh and Amy my limelights.... they don't look that good.... i started them inside this winter... they looked great... hardened off still looked great.... put them in the ground.... BLECK all skinny and pitiful looking now... not sure what happened
Brigette your own cross DL is lovely and so is your garden!
Dawn thats a wall to be proud of!!!!!!!!! It's BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Ok, too many other pictures to comment on....they are all great!!
Wow, every one's gardens are exploding with tempting plant blooms. I have the "I want" big time. Starting with a dear Lydia. What an lovely shed, Donniebrook. I know you have a cute name for it and now I can see why. I would love to join you for a cup out there.
Pixie, is your Asiatic no-id, Corrida? Your rose 'Double Delight' is now on a drool list.
Amy love your dwarf orange dahlia, even with the dirty hands. I relish any time I can get mine dirty.
Dawn, love your continuing show of clematis. Mine still not being overly exuberant, but growing and producing.
Victor, Love the bee shot in the loosestrife. I do love my big batches of goose neck, Lysimachia clethroides. I know they are thugs, but I have big batches as socks for many big things like oakleaf hydrangea, roses, peonies, lilies etc and they seem to be OK after many years. But I have sandy soil so they are easy to yank out when they wander too far. I also grow, heaven forbid, Lysimachia punctata and as well as the Variegated Yellow Loosestrife 'Alexander'. Both blooming now in my wooded dell.
Here is some happy hollyhocks that don't have bad rust. Some are a mess this year. Patti
Beautiful HH Patti ...would you like to trade some seeds? Also, I think you right on the Asiatic. Double Delight has a lovely spicey scent to it and it makes me smile everytime I look at it. Buy it.....You'll love it!!
I would like some but heard they need moist soil.
We have clay and rocks, hense the serious mulching.
Where do you plant yours they are beautiful
Thanks, JoAnn,
They do like water, but will grow in any average garden soil. If you can grow daylilies, JIs will grow in the same bed. The more water you can give them the better, but they do well in the average garden.
Mine are planted in sand, and I just mulch heavily.
Thanks for the info, now to go to Ensata with my list.
I am so pleased.
I don't have my JI near any water source...just give them a drink and they are happy.
Beautiful Polly!!!!!!!!
Okay so many pretty pics. Love the clem wall, HH look wonderful, all DL are just yummy, those iris are beautiful and the part shade bed looks like it is going to be great. Everyone is posting so many wonderful shots!
Gorgeous JI's, Polly! Great lilies and DL's, Patti, and great shots by all. Looks like 'primetime'!
Robin I have to agree with you about the trumpets this year. I noticed last week they seem about a foot shorter than normal. Yours are lovely by the way!
Your double is 'Kwanso' and is very aggressive for a DL! http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/154866/
Jo Ann the mulch looks great, want to come and spread mine. The bags have been in the driveway for a month.
Yes Polly, that is the correct pronunciation, it’s the Gallic spelling.
I’ve been drooling over all the JI’s that have been posted recently. I thought they were very difficult to grow so I never tried. Please don’t tell me they’re easy, I’ll be out trying to find some and I’m still not allowed to use the pick axe or any of the other fun tools, but I can go shopping.
Robin, The lily is so pretty, why rip it out?
DD is going to spread the rest of the wagon load which is just about a half yard.
It' really close and oppresive here today. I started at 7 and had to quit at 9.
I'm trying to photo my Belemcanda. My zoom is on the fritz auto focus makes everything blurry.
Since joining DG I have been freeier wit taking chances on new plants. I also have ten times the garden so I bought three Bluestn shipped one because they sold out.
It is a sweet flower
Ssh, don't anyone tell Donna the Japanese iris are easy to grow.
Thanks Pixie and Victor. I've been working hard trying to get nice pictures for my website for next year. I am having trouble with some of the purples and blues not being true to color, but I noticed some of Ensatas aren't either.
So many people are under the assumption that JIs are very difficult to grow. If you can grow daylilies, or siberian iris the Japanese will do excellent for you.
Seems like with the warmer weather we had the trumpets lilies bloomed earlier. Maybe that's why they're not as tall? Mine seem a couple of weeks ahead of time.
Allison - i started my Limelights inside too. Maybe mine sense the ghosts of all the weedwhacked ones from last year and figure they'd better perform or else!
Robin - i'd take some of your aggressive daylily! Pretty and aggressive - my kind of girl!
Polly, that Altay JI is beautiful - well they all are, but that one especially.
Not a flower, but an interesting beetle i saw the other day...
