Morning Glories 2008 #08

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I have some more pictures of my morning glories. These all came from Emma Grace in a swap earlier this year. I still haven't come up with my notes on the names of them, but I have them here somewhere. Thanks Emma these are wonderful. Holly

Thanks Emma for the wonderful trade and the ID's. I put some of your MG on my daughters White Picket Fence. When I was up there last they looked good but hadn't started to bloom yet.

Gautier, MS

Very nice blooms Jackie, Gail, Becky and Holly. I'm just as addited to them too.

Here's my first of the season, Hatsu Arashi. It bloomed low this year and has lots of buds. The rest of mine don't have a single bud yet.

Love the Murasaki Holly.

Beautiful Hatsu Judith, one of my favorites.

Thanks Helena

Despite the rust issue, I am still getting some lovely blooms. Being the weekend, I have a little time to take photos! (One more week of summer school! And then I will have an entire month off! YAY!)

This is Beni Chidori, I believe! And it does have varigated leaves, Ron. So it looks like you were absolutely correct on the ID of this one! Thanks again!

Not sure what this one is, but it is coming up in the same hanging basket. Possibly Kawaii?

This is a new surprise from my Pink Porcelain vine. The first 10 or so blooms were solid light pink as I was expecting. But today this bloom showed up on the vine. I really, really like it!!!

Last one on the pinks is Kohkan! The rust got this vine something awful, but it throws out soooo many huge floppy blooms even now. This is like the pink ever-ready bunny ... it just keeps going and going and going ... or timex ... it takes a lickin', but keeps on tickin'! :-) Still one of my favorites so far this season!

Beth - Even though the seeds you shared with me were not Fujo no Monet ... this solid purple blooming vine was the first to bloom along my picket fence. It is ravaged in rust now, but still puts out at least 10-15 nice sized blooms every single day. This is the one that I can count on for blooms every morning! Such a great combo with the Kohkan!

And here is the other constant bloomer. This is the one from Japan called "Mutant Blue Needle Leaf Nanding" from Derek. It looks like a SOI or something similar, but when it was a young vine, the blooms definitely looked different. Not round, but more like a round and picotee mix of a bloom. Never fails to put out a ton of blooms every morning. Also has diseased leaves now.

I will be looking at Copper Sulphate products to combat the rust, but I put the critters in my garden before the plants. Any poison will have to be carefully considered. I know that may make folks here frown on me, but the critters are just as important as the plants, IMHO.

Jishi ... I seem to want to grow this one every time. It is really stunning. But my camera always makes the blooms look blue and they are actually more deep bluish-purple.

Ron, I agree with you after looking at your link to PlantFiles, that this is most likely "Chiaki". This is really a very pretty color. I think it is the ligher blue with that pink throat set off by the white edging.

What is it about the color of blue in flowers? They must have a calming effect on the observer.

And finally ... Maisugata screams at me each morning to come see me, come see me! :-) lol

Oh wait! One more ... not sure what this one is. Possibly Sunsmiles. The rest of the vines in this pot of clumping vines has expired, but this one is STILL putting out one or two blooms every day! Too funny!

Oh, Becky! I haven't been one for the pinks, but I just love this bloom!!! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5245817 Pretty please save me some seeds?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I know y'all will boo me off this forum, but I bought 3 Clematis liners. Too have actually bloomed even though the vines are only a tiny 8-10" tall. I was told that it is very unlikely I would see blooms at all even with much more growth this year. HA!!! Do y'all think it might be my Bloom Booster and Fish Emulsion fertilizer mix???? LOL! One of the other Clematis liners is a Jackmanii and it was also about 10" tall and it produced 7 blooms! Surprised everyone on the Clematis thread! LOL! Anyway, this one is called Venosa Violacea. The blooms will be much bigger once the vine matures, but even as tiny blooms, it's an attractive vine.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Oops, here is the Clematis bloom! LOL!

I also bought 3 rose liners. I have never seen rose plants soooo small in my life! I have been getting blooms on all of them as well ... so I would have to say that my fertilizer mix works on all blooming plants! LOL! Actually, when I fertilize my garden with that mix, within 3-7 days, everything in my yard starts blooming! :-) :-) :-) I swear by it!!!

Nichole - Thanks so much! I honestly can not imagine anyone not liking Kohkan. The blooms are the largest blooms of all the MGs I am currently growing. They are so amazing! And the foliage is variegated, so it is just a great MG vine all around!! I hope to get plenty of seeds as it does bloom quite a bit every day. Just remind me when we start doing trades that you want this one. :-)

I just love the flower on your Pink Porcelain vine, but I think I must agree with you that the Kokhan takes first prize!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Elsa - Ya know I will share the seeds with you, too! :-)

The fertilizer mix also works with larger blooming plants like Brugs. Within 2 weeks after fertilizing with the mix, I will get a flush of blooms on all my Brugs! LOL! I don't know what it is about mixing those two fertilizers, but it works it's amazing magic in my yard!

Awesome blooms Becky!! You already know that I like your Kohkan but love your Pink Porcelain too!!

If only I can find something similar to Bloom Booster here in SA!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I would really appreciate it if y'all would please start a list somewhere on your own computers or a sheet of paper of which seeds of what vines you want from me, that will help me later on. I can't tell ya how many times folks will say to me ... send me the ones that I "posted" that I wanted! HA! Yeah right ... like I am going to be able to go back through Heaven knows how many posts to figure out who wants what. Sorry, my memory and mind were gone a long time ago, so y'all are gonna have to remind me. LOL!

One more of another Kohkan bloom just to make ya smile! These blooms are 5-6" diameter. Really rather large compared to most of my other MG blooms!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! :-)

Elsa - Here is the label for the Bloom Booster. BUT ... my boxes of mix say 15-30-15. Everything else is the same, but the link shows 10-52-10. I have no idea why that is different. I don't know which one is the newest product, but I have always used the Bloom Booster that is 15-30-15 which also makes my vine leaves very healthy! :-) (At least until the rust attacks them ... sigh ...)

I was out this morning taking pictures again.
Becky they are so beautiful, I know exactly what you mean about the colors. Sometimes I stand in front of my blooms to cast a shadow over them and make sure my flash is off. Quite often that helps.

Last one for today this should be the lavender-pink I.hederacea. I had last year.
My MG IDing is pretty iffy so if anyone notices a misidentified MG please let me know, I would really appreciate it. Holly

This morning my MGs are the prettiest they have been and the battery on my camera is dead..........try to remember and take a picture in the morning.

Those are really nice ones, Holly.

Thanks for the info, Becky.

Holly - Nice looking blooms and vines ya got there! Are you getting a lot of blooms or just a few? If just a few, try the Bloom Booster by Miracle Gro

Elsa - I wonder if you could find some 15-30-15 fertilizer to add to water if that would work just aas well. I don't know if Bloom Booster has some secret ingredient in it, but it would certainly be worth trying!

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Becky, do you use Bloom Booster and fish emulsion at the same time??

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Judith - Yes, I mix them together in a 2 gallon watering can. And I hand water ALL of my garden beds besides the MGs! LOL! Takes me over an hour, but it is a real labor of love. Not everyone likes to use the Fish Emulsion. But the two mixed together seems to work better than just one or the other. I don't know why.

I am so kindly rewarded within a week with tons of bright blooming flowers everywhere in my garden beds. I feel like I am walking out into the Garden of Eden when everything is blooming! I get lots of butterflies and other creatures as well when everything is flowering. So it's a real delight!
