It's still set for the 11th in Tyler Becky, it hasn't changed :)
Fall Jacksonville Roundup
whose booking the pavillion?
=)
East Texas RU will be the 11th of October at Tyler State Park.
There is an entrance fee to the park of $3 per person.....unless you happen to have one of the state park passes.
I would suggest anyone having one of the passes consider carpooling as everyone in your car will get in with you as a guest.
The rental fee for the pavilion so we know we have a spot is $50 and once we have a head count we can divide that amongst us so one person isn't paying the whole cost.
We still have 2 months ( actually 72 days/ 2 months and 12 days) until time so let's relax and enjoy these lovely days of summer heat, Everyone do their rain dances, go take a nap in the air conditioning, spend time with your families, mom's get the kids supplies for school in order, start or pot up any thing that you might want to trade - plants or otherwise and later on next month (August) we can start the trade thread.
then come the need of August we can start a thread for a head count and discuss food options
and who is going to take care of the different things so everyone has a chance to visit.
what I meant is someone going to reserve the pavillion now or later?
*waves hand*
Mibus is doing the reservations....Phyllis if you need it now let me know. I got something special for y'all, but ya gotta put in your order early if ya want to trade for one....pic to come in another thread..
"eyes"
eyes I don't' know how many are coming for sure yet so I can't fairly tell you how much, hey I want something special LOL
I want something special from 'eyes' too. The last special thing she brought me was great, a kitty that looked like my beloved Bruce. No, not a live kitty. Ifshe had done that the kitty and I would probably be permenent residents at Tyler State Park, or my DH would have left home. That latter option sounds better to me.
I still have that Maine Coon, Pam......He could take over DH's side of the bed....LOL...

I put things in my ICU and then the nurse forgets to show up! LOL! My intentions are good but my follow through lacks.
For those of you that are growing some of Emma's MGs, and now need a trellis. Do you remember the large bundle of bamboo that Wayne brought for a door prize and no one wanted to take it home.
Well guess who has lots of trellises, made of bamboo that look neat. And my MGs are doing well considering the heat, bugs and drought.
Some of my things from the RU are still in ICU. Just can not tink about putting them out in the dry heat. Will have some of my goodies going soon but a bit early for me to try to care for them this long.
D
Are you offering us trellises D, or just bragging? LOL! I bet they did make some awsome trellises. I looked at it and didn't see anyway I could have gotten it home. It was a big bundle.
David.. I didn't know a thing about the bamboo.. when we were leaving I saw you giving some to Dave.. and I thought they were yours..LOL Didn't EVEN cross my mind about trellis' though.. Dad gum it!! I bet they are really pretty!!
Sheila... I'd have found a way..LOL Talking about Lorraine having to ride on top of Pams car??? I would have had them hanging out the window of my lil Vibe!!! Wouldn't I have been the talk on the highway???hehe
Beck I'll save some of the bamboo we still have left for ya so you can make trellis'
Ty Phyllis.. maybe Wayne will bring some more since I now have a great idea what to do with it.. .. ty David!! But if not ..yeah.. please save me a few.. I think we have some hog wire somewhere... I gotta get on it now.. or my MG's will be half way to your house by the fall!!..lol
LOL, Phyllis I'm going to be begging you for a bench now! You should sell them at the RU! That's the neatest thing since sliced bread!
Oh no we cut down the bamboo LOL it was taking over everything and this was a trial thing anyway it is wobbly even with the twine wrapped on it. the type of bamboo I had is more for crafts and garden stakes not to sit on
The lumber bamboo that Wayne has would be better
I saw the bamboo but thought it was taken. I wanted to ask about getting some, but I thought it had been brought for someone that was expecting it!
I'll take some if there is more to come.
I think we need a photo of those trellis's that you made Dde. We need to share when we have revelations of what to do with things like that you know.
Is there anyone out there who's plants are not suffering? My Rose of Sharon plants that I moved last fall are starting to worry me. They look awful! I have watered and watered and they are not happy. Of course lots of other plants look awful also. Three days out of town and DH did his best to keep up, but some have really paid the price for their keeper leaving them to someone who was a teeny bit stingy with the water. At least he tried! Gotta love him.
BTW I will make both fall RU's with one or two guests. I just hope there is something for me to share by then that is not brown and crispy.
Charlene
My DH is watering about every 2 days or so depending on how hot it gets.
he starts around 6am when he gets back from taking his son to work ...he has learned to water deep then depending on the day I sometimes water in the evening before the sun sets so leaves can dry off.
But we have everything mulched with either compost or pine needles.
my little blueberry bushes are turning brown and dying though and things wilt during the day some.
Save some more pine needles for me Phyllis.. I am going to bring sacks to your RU. :))
I guess I was just popping off about snagging the bamboo. Here in east Texas there is an endless supply of material for crafting projects from natural resources. Mine are rather rustic and not nearly as creative as others that I have seen. You need to have msdoolittle and 6841 post their projects. They are fantastic and put mine to shame. I will try to go through my photos and post. I have several arches and trellises that I made of tree limbs and bamboo but again the others are really great.
Shelia, beck, Charlene and Sylvia- I am sure that more supplies can be brought to the RU. Pine straw here is also endless. Spring and fall clean-up time in the area will have many bags of it bagged up for the taking. There is also a cedar saw mill in the area where you can get slab cedar that make great projects. I used this to make my neat potting shed and used it on my GH.
I will ask msdoolittle to post photos of her things her DH made.
Guess this means that there are some "wants" for the RU. Hope this will be another good time for all.
D
Mornin..
Yep.. aren't we BAD David?? lol.... already have the wants and nothing has been listed yet.. well that's women for you.. welllllll that's what DH says!! Us women say .. the difference between men and boys are the price of their toys..hehe can anybody relate??
OK.. I'm leaving....
LOL Beck...yes that is true on the toys but I hate to break it to ya I enjoy some of those toys too ...I would love to get my hands on a set of tools I found online for wood craving but ummmm it is a save up for it.LOL
and DD is right you can use alot of stuff to make things I used winged elms we cut down to make an arch that is now out by my roses I moved to the back yard.
Welll... I wish ya'll would show me pics.. I need a lil motivation.. I went out this am and Emma's MG's had intermingled with each other.. BOY!!.. I have to get some trellis' .. today!!... I really like that arch idea... hmmm thinking here..
OOHHHH...I know Beck, let them intwine themselves together over an arch...would probably be spectacular!!
"eyes"
*sigh* well dear go to this link and then the picture journals I have arch in the mmm may 08 one I think

Ok.. I looked... I think I get the idea.. Ty Phyllis.. I have lots of huge grape vine down in the woods..hmmm.. I am thinking again..lol
ooooo grapevines .....lucky you LOL they would work for that and other things too
Phylis.. tell me some ideas for the grapevines.. and I'll get you some if you want them... you don't have them up there??
Also.. do ya'll have the chinese tallow trees up there around Jacksonville?? I have 2 that came up in a plant that I got there.. at least I think that is what they are.. TY
grapevines can be used to make wreaths, baskets, swags ...but they would have to be made into the circles before the vine dried to keep the shape or soaked in water to make pliable again

WOW... there are a lot of neat stuff on those websites!! OH if i only had the time.. I'll bring you some though if you want..Phyllis
sure thing I am always looking for things to do when I can't be outside LOL..If I lived closer I would come get some now for something to do LMAO
like you DON'T have nothing to do... yeah right..lol.. BUT you are welcome to come if you think you need something to do now!! I liked the way that one person said she cut them while they were green.. no soaking time!! And no wet vines toworry with.. but I was thinking more of the trellis.. arch size.. waaayyy bigger than for the wreath size... guess you'd have to soak them or something??
I like to get small trees ( about 2" diamiter) down in the wooded area of the property. Then use vines between the trees. There is a briar that works well and last a bit longer than grapevine. I sometimes find some real interesting shapes of the vines. These work great for snail vine and MG but not sturdy enough for the passion vine when it gets going.
Bamboo looks a bit more formal and oriental to me. Have some I used in large pots in a tripod shape. 6841 has a great looking one as does msdoolittle. Msdoolittle has a fence and arbor made from a large creape myrtle (sp) that is super. Will try to find photo and post.
