LOL! Maybe one day you will get your very own barn. You know, like the concept of putting the chicks before the housing? If you get them...it will be built? 8)
My First Egg!
Yes Maam. That is my way of thinking. His 1st reaction was OMG what have you done, then we got the brooder built then I told him I might have some of them sold, and he said, knock me down with a feather again, why are you going to sell them. So we keep them until we know what they are then go from there.
Tf I may have to since there aren't enough hens to go around. One fellow has a harem of 4 hens all to himself!
When I pick the roos up they're heavy but if you feel the breastbone it's still on the sharp side. That tells me they're still bony.
MollyD
well, i was thinking today you spoiled them as babies, and now the hens are getting more attention, so the boys are misbehaving LOL
then i saw Buddy, who is from a March 26 hatch getting ON a pullet from a May 4 hatch..... she was not ready for that! what can i do? he is half leghorn, so fast maturing... but not eating material...
i guess it isn't hurting anything, till i see some missing feathers, right?
tf
Oh I have got to do something about my roo's. Too
many. I have 2 from Blanca's brood- leghorn crosses-
not much meat there at all. I have Big Red, the amer roo-
he's staying, and then there's the 1 splash, 1 blue and 2
black cochin roo's. If I keep Splash Gordon, and try to
get some black pullets- I can get all blues from them.
I have 1 blue cochin hen, Elvis, will keep her. Think I
will keep one black roo and Splash and have 2 pens.
This is fun! Still-!! Here we are, 5-6 months into our new
birds, some of you much longer, but a definate learning
adventure all the same! What would I have done without
all of you and your advice---thanks !!
i'm still hiding
Why for you hiding, Kathy?
i'm hiding from the chicken fairy. don't want her to find me. shhhhhhh
But- don't you want the chicken fairy to leave you
with more chickens? Doesn't everyone want more
chickens?
afraid dh will hang cf
dh can't CATCH cf LOL
that's right....she zips in and out of places so fast there is no way to catch her......
ROFLOL
i keep a feeder full in their coop, and throw them scratch and veggies once a day. mine are about the same age
sailskif...what kind are they? they are really pretty :o)
I sure wish that cf would hurry up and get HERE!
i'm hiding from the cf
send her my way! I want chicks...yesterday! tee hee! I'm a little anxious!
sailskiff....your are very pretty! Are they Rhode Island Reds? Love that garden too.
Christy
thats what I was thinking Christy.... the RIR's
they are ones I am contemplating...specially since I may be able to get them locally :o)
anj, thought cf was sending you ducks??? i may not have room for htose ducks now LOL.
sialskiff, those are some fine looking RIR pullets. you take good care of them!
kittyjo, since i am out of space, and so is tia, i think the chicken fariy is heading your way next week. somebody will have to take my duck order for me. plus the laying pullets and asstd bantams i ahd on order for next week but took this week.... somebody, some-bo-dy???!!!
well, i guess they can stay in the spare room
cool! call Rachel or that other lady, cindy or carol???? carol i think... and say you want what i had for next week, and AT THAT PRICE... 75 pullets and 25 ducks, both asstd...
yep officially out of room. at least here, will be lurking in the barn this weekend at moms. I have to brush hog up there 1st, i would hate to run into her snake family she seems to be harboring up there. I can see it now an involuntary bowel movement upon seeing them.
i'm gping back to the chicken coop to hide. did i say my phone is out of order?
wow tam i couldnt see what you posted he he he
TF....cant we order a smaller amount from them? like...5 bantams? and all hens?
I was out of town for two days and look what the chicken fairy has done! Tf you should be ashamed of all the happy families you are threatening to break up.
And WHERE IS MY SILKIE Chicken Fairy!
One of my 5 week old Barnevelder roos died while I was gone:0(. I have no idea why. I called home and DH says "I think one of the chicks is dead" Then we spent about 20 minutes while I tried to get him to give me enough info to figure out who it was. This is my first death--no sign of injury, was feeling fine when I left. I feel like a bad mommy.
On the happy front--1 BO and 2 Marans eggs! Still can't find Delaware's new nest.
the rock at the feeder is a male.... they are gorgeous!
honest, i was in Texas ALL DAY!
cat, really sorry about the little guy. i lost two bantams last night...
I sort of agree with you tf, the one by the feeder has a very difuse head spot..
What happened to your bantams? I am really freaked out about the Barnevelder, at least it wasn't one of my only two pullets.
Just told DH, these things happen--but they've never happened to me before....
bbrrrp!
how can you tell shes a he?
funny thing, a customer called yesterday to say her two smallest [young and small breed] died. i suggested [without asking] that she put a light at each end so they wouldn't smush the smaller ones, they ARE more delicate... well, it was ME who then turned out BOTH lamps thinking it was warm in the house.... and two small ones were smushed. suffocated from being at the bottom of the pile.
now i got an email from her that 7 died of the 14 she bought this week. they hatched on teh 8th.... i told her i had new ones she oculd have complimentary replacements, and asked her for symptoms. i dunno if i am being taken, or i fshe is not telling me something. but to lose HALF the small new ones... she also has 10 that are two weeks older, plus two ducklings and two keets... all from me...
gotta go clean up baby toys, or i am going to be stepping on those in the morning!
tf
PBRs can be sexed pretty accurately by the spot on their head. the larger, more splotchy spot is male. the tiny more circular spot female. cat and i have spent ENDLESS hours attmepting to learn how to sex chicks. next year i am hatching/selling sex-linked chicks...
tf
but the good news is, you ahve at least ONE pullet!
just a question is it possible to revive a chicken because i think i did before and i tried it on my silkie that died because it was still warm and it didnt work
hmmm wonder if I an take 'him' back and trade him...before DH gets the pan heated up!
i would keep him
they make terribly spoiled pets...
Sorry to hear sis, know you can't have a roo in the city. I would try to see if they will exchange. If not, ship him to me ASAP. I will take care of him.
oh right i forgot u cant keep rosters
you could dress him up as a hen
