"Bella ~ Red Grapefruit"

Perfect pic for a thread starter, Pod!

Is that one of those flowering maples? I want one and a nice cold grapefruit is sounding good too :0)

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes ~ I have read about them and know they won't be winter hardy for me. We were in Houston yesterday for a Dr appt and on the way home, stopped to stretch legs. I stumbled on this one in a garden center. Apparently the Bella series is dwarf (only 12-18 inches in height) so will be an ideal pot plant. For $3, worth a try...

I wouldn't be so sure...my mom planted one last fall accidentally thinking it was hardy...and it came back this year. I couldn't believe it!

May I ask? I have two flowering maples several years old and they've never flowered. Anyone know why?

Also, posting a pic of my flowering purple cotton tomorrow, if the camera works.

Antiquedrose ~ no experience here but how much sun do yours receive?

Blue_eyes, Elphaba keeps proclaiming Abutilon to be hardy in ground with mulch. I suspect your Moms' died down to the ground... did she have it in a sheltered area?

It is between the house and a tree but west facing. Not mulched and not against any structures.

Duranta I love! Pretty picture too. I always wondered about the "Golden Dew Drop" name tho...

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

West facing is not as sheltered as I had expected on the Abutilon. I think I'll keep this little one potted. If I get hooked, I'll get a larger one for planting in ground.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

It grows these pretty bright yellow berries after flowering. It's a stunning display as well!

Aristolchia fimbriata - small dutchman's pipevine. I love the weirdness of these flowers.

The (non) flowering maples recieve full sun, mulch and water when it rains. No other care. They're lush and healthy looking. Thanks!

This purple cotton plant is just a great beauty. White cotton follows the pink flowers. I don't know if I can stand it.

My late-blooming daylily, Mariner's Cove has finally started blooming.

Here's the shot from along the side of my house & driveway. There's a NOID daylily, tall Mexican Petunia, and white shasta daisies there.

Here's my front flowerbed. It's got yellow & orange cosmos, a white gaura, pink mexican flower (Katie's Ruellia), and weeds! LOL

With the heat and drought, not a lot of color in the yard. But the Turk's Cap really is a trooper under those conditions, rewarding a little bit of water with pretty blooms!

Can't see from afar but the turk's cap is covered with buds and blooms. Haven't put out a hummer feeder since I planted this.

I haven't seen my pink turk's cap blooming :( may be getting shaded out.
