Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Celeste. That does ring a bell.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

stunning photo's victor - fern leaf acer can i add that to my list?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ha ha - I get the feeling I will have a 'mirror' garden in Pepperell! Kind of like backing up my data at a safe location. Except you can fit multiple copies, aside from all your great stuff I don't have.

Victor we know you can take great pics. I dont use a great camera and here is a task, someone can do better than me. I am sitting on the patio and this tree is (guessing) 50 -70 feet away. There is a humming bird in there. I was unable to zoom in any closer. You have to watch where they go and they go quick.

Happy b-day, Pix! Hope someone made you a cheesecake! Photos were stunning--loved the cosmos, amy, & the DL. Victor, rose was lovely---most folks have way more things blooming than I do---too much rain & cold temps have really retarded the blooms here.

Well I finally finished the physical placements of the gardens with the addition of a fountain.
The pictures are:
Shade garden with my asian theme.
I added some stones to the bird bath. I saw this in Daylily Journal and I liked the idea.
Added a garden bench and used the large wood nuggets. It gives it a nice woodsy appearance.
Also used these on the path from front door to garden area. I was going to use wood chips but got the nuggets by accident.
Added the fountain today. It is so nice to sit on the bench and listen to the sound of the water.

Gee Andy, want a difference 30 miles makes. None of my lilies are open yet. They look to be 1 week away from blooming.

Caught some fireflies near the pond. The little dots in the lower portion are the quick bursts. The two 'smears' above are longer light-ups while they were flying.

Chuck, the Lollipop is an early Lily. I see a few other kinds popping up in the area.
Do you have trouble with the dreaded red Lily beetle? Pretty eggs with adult insert.

Just skimmed through the last three threads. Great pics everyone. I'd love to have a couple of hours to look at each one carefully but i don't think it's going to happen. Keep them coming. Eleanor

Lightening bugs here too, love em!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow- somehow I missed the transition to this thread! Amazing pics everyone.

Does anyone know what this plant is? I'm sure it's a weed, probably in the nightshade family. I leave it as I like it's structure and the flowers/berries are interesting.

I have a weed or perennial question also
This is growing in the pines at the edge of the lawn.

Looks like pokeweed, Anita. I've always called them either fireflies or lightning bugs.

Andy,
About 3 years ago my 30 year old weeping cherry was almost done in by catapillers. There ain't no way I was going to let that happen again. Dow Chemical Co.and I became good friends. Everything gets sprayed except for my wife herbs and veg. garden.
I haven't seen any of those red devils yet.

Thank you Patti & Amy.

Anita...does look like poke weed.

This is what I saw and thought it might be Delph.
It was early and out the bedroom window, but taking the photo realized the leaves weren't Delph.
I tend to agree with you Pixi it looks like Verbascum and Plant id. person says what ever it is ,it's pretty so plant it.
Sorry about the quality It's a dark humid day here.
I also forgot to size it.

Funny story about the poke weed, Victor.
Several years ago when we were building our church we had meny groups from the south that came to help. The ladies that worked in the outdoor kitchen from one group saw a large area of poke weed. All the ladies went out and they harvested every bit of it. They told the men at lunch that they were going to have "poke weed for dinner". You think that they were passing out winning lottery tickets. The ladies asked if I had ever tried poke weed? "Eat a weed", I thought to myself, no way!
Well when supper was served every one was chowing down on the weed. I made sure that I was at the end of the line. One of the ladies asked me if I got any poke weed? "Gee, no it was all gone by the time I got there." (Whew!)
They told me I was missing a real treat.
YA, like throwing up all night from eating it.
End of story, thanks for listening.
Your truly, Windbag
