I don't see the Blue Jays either, I know they're around but not in my yard.
Margaret I would have like to take much more pictures of the Osprey, but sitting on the side of the highway, kind of made me hurry up, and DH was anxious to get back on the road.:( But as least he stop , and am thankful for what shots I got.

Congratulations on getting some Bluebird babes Rose, it must be a relief after the trouble you had.

Nice Swallow shots nanny and booj!

burn, the Yellow Warbler looks a real cutie.

This was taken late on Saturday on my neighbour's roof ridge, Pied Wagtail being vocal.

Thanks Wallaby...it was a relief to have them fledge! I've never seen a Pied Wagtail...very cool looking bird.

Margaret...Here's another Scissor-tailed Flycatcher...this one I believe is a male as it's tail is longer (although he wouldn't turn so I could get a better shot).

Indigo Bunting

I bought this metal stand at a flea market and added the clay saucers. I added bird seed in the top two saucers and water in the bottom one. I had visions of photo ops with Indigo Buntings, Cardinals and Goldfinch....this is not what I had in mind!!

lol, dellrose!

So that's where my indigo bunting went!
That is one very pied bird, Wallaby. Love learning birds of the British Isles through your posts.

Thanks all!

Wow Rose, your pics are all superb! The colours are magnificent!

I had a Great Tit today bringing a young one to feed. The female is very pale, she appeared briefly for a feed after the male had fed baby. I googled to see if I could find one so lacking in colour, found an article on Blue Tits and other Tits last year which was very wet and cold. If it's too cold and wet we don't get the moths, then don't get caterpillars which they need to feed the young. One young Blue Tit needs 100 caterpillars a day! They can have 10 in a brood, but only breed once a year.

This is the pale female Great Tit, a female has a thinner black line down the front than the male but this one is lacking in colour all over.

This poor Blue Tit has no feathers on it's head! The great Tit I saw which had feathers missing on one side I saw again and got a bad pic of through the window, it was bald on both sides and top too. I'm wondering if these are being pecked by other birds (to get the eggs or young) while sitting on the nest. I wonder also if the feathers will grow again as they look to be completely pulled out.

Thanks Wallaby...I read that link about the Tits. What a shame and I hope things improve their next breeding season. It would be a shame to have them endangered. Nice pics and I feel sorry for the last one. I love those Tits and also your sweet little Robins.

I am not real sure since the sun was so bright, but I think these are a bunch of Grackles on the barn roof!

Quoting:
This poor Blue Tit has no feathers on it's head!

Quite common for parent birds to get like this, after 2 weeks of pushing their heads down the throats of their chicks. They'll get new feathers when they moult in the next few weeks.

Thanks Rose. It has been cold this year at times but not very wet, and although it was very cold last year we didn't get a lot of rain in my area. Finding out this sort of thing certainly helps open our eyes more to the needs of these birds, if anyone ever asks how they can get rid of the caterpillars eating leaves on their precious shrubs etc we can all tell them leave them for the birds! Other birds eat them too, including Robins. Same goes for aphids. It nearly brings me to tears to see that poor Blue Tit.

Thanks Resin!

Great pictures everyone.
Hehe, Resin, glad to know parents of the human kind aren't the only ones that 'lose their hair' over their children.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

This Cardinal looks like he has lost a few feathers from feeding the young.
