I feel so privileged to be able to look at the wonderfully diverse birds throughout this thread and learn of their behaviours. The colours and markings are breathtaking. Rose, the close up and personal pic of the Grackle is stupendous!
DAILY PICS-VOLUME 119
I agree Margaret. I so enjoy everyone's photos. I don't know anything about Grackles, I can't remember ever seeing one in Maine. Are they related to jackdaws or crows?
Yeh, they are obviously a great deterrent.
adelbertcat, that is too funny. Bird hitchhiking. Our swallows did not stay and nest this year. Boojum, so jealeous.
IDellrose, Indigo Bunting, had one once here. They blow through for a day or two each spring, but I haven't been lucky to see them for many years.
I put up a new and bigger thistle feeder this afternoon and the birds found it in 3 min. It hold 4 qts. Patti
Great photos everyone. Especially loved the quail family, bluebirds, and enjoyed the Great Tit lesson wallaby. Beautiful black-headed grosbeak. Thanks everyone.

Nope - they're in the family Icteridae; relatives include cowbirds, new world blackbirds, and new world orioles. An entirely New World family, none occurring in the Old World (except as very rare vagrants).
