Thank You Dave :-)
I'd like to propose a Miniature and Fairy Gardening forum
Thanks, what a great idea!
Thank you Dave!!!
Yipppeee. Thank you for listening to us Dave:-)
Thanks Dave!
This is going to be a great forum. Thank you so much for creating it Dave and to you for getting us rolling Seedpicker!
I was looking around for a spot after work for my first mini garden. I purchased a fountain base at an auction several years ago that had a chunk out of it so it sold very cheaply. I have the missing section but never got around to repairing it 'cause I really did not know what I wanted to do with it. It is circular and probably about four feet across and maybe six inches tall. I think this would be perfect for my first fairy garden. As it happens one of the local garden centers (about a 45 minute drive) is having a major sale before they close for a couple of months during the hot weather. 50% off all remaining plants. When I was up there earlier in the spring he had quite a few mini conifers. Will have to see if there are any left! :^)
That DOES sound perfect, and even better with conifers on sale nearby.
Can't wait for the pictures :0)
a fountain base would be such a pretty spot for a fairy garden--i love it when i buy things just because i like them and know that some day i will know what to use it for!! i wonder if you can somehow repair it so it has drainage? maybe break off a little before you put the piece back on?
Gosh, that sounds like a wonderful base for mini garden. Big enough to make stepping layers in it.
Oh my it is a reality now!! More trouble for me. Audrey, you can look now and join us dear!!! Twist arm, twist arm!
Oh, oh, oh!!! This is gonna be veeeerrrry hard to resist!!!
This is great! I have already learned I need to spray UV protectant on my gnomes for leaving them outside.
you have well protected gnomes--with their sun screen they can hang around and not worry about getting burned! i wonder if you spray after a rain--or am i not getting it-maybe it is not a sun screen but some other kind of spray?
Someone said it was a clear UV spray paint from the hardware store. I don't know how long it lasts yet....maybe a re-spray every summer? Someone will chime in to let us know.
so it is something not for humans?--i guess i only knew about sunscreen--what else (besides fairies!) would one use it for?
I think it's a UV protecting clear spray paint. Definitely not for use on humans!!!
There are a lot of fabulous links and photos in this thread. Can we put this over into the miniature/fairy garden forum?
Thanks,
Gwen
WOW! Looks like a lot of interest in this topic! I'm jumping on the band wagon, too!
The forum's been created already--if you scroll back up to Dave's post on 6/23 you'll see a link.
Oh, I want a fairy garden forum. I'm really wanting to make one and use a gourd for a fairy house....I'm just not very creative and I need all the helps and ideas I can get.
Opened June 23 http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/tinygardens/all/ and what kind of fiber?? Sue
I just found this thread...what a neat idea...Grammy...you and I must get together with fiberholic....and see what kind of "fiber" he/she is made of. Jo
This thread is not in use any more. There is a thingee to click on above!
Sounds good Jo!
Well, if you can spin it, knit it, weave it, felt it, I probably have it. At the very least I want it!!!!!
Says the gardener with one lone green cotton plant that she's managed to hide from the gophers and bunnies!!!!!
ms fiber-i want to know what all you make
are you able to combine that somehow with gardening? or do you garden in the summer and do fiber work in the winter? or does arizona even have winter?
St David is a beautiful community...and has TREES....The River (San Pedro) runs Through it!
I wsould love to see some of your work. What is your first name....I don't want to call you "Fib"...LOL Jo
I have some colored cotton seeds...I keep meaning to sow them, but always forget...
I think I have several shades of green, and a light brown. I also have that "aggie cotton" developed for Texas A&M...has burgundy leaves...
I once traded for some lavender cotton...but it never germinated...
You mean you plant the color cotton you want to work with....? Jo
Lavender cotton isn't cotton, it's a common name for various Santolina species, which is an herby smelling plant with yellow flowers. I don't think you'll get much from it that could be used for fibers.
Nope...this was a mauve-purple colored cotton seed...it was just old. Such a shame. I know what cotton seeds look like, and it was cotton...but thanks for the suggestion
I still have the other colors, but only got one of the lavender one...

Easy stuff first - my name is Kathy.
Green cotton really isn't green until you wash it. It's actually kind of a yucky looking dirty white, but washing it brings out the green and it's a great green.
Let's see: on my needles now are: hat to match a baby sweater for the Christmas craft sales; beaded lace rectangular shawl; sweater for me; on the loom is some cotton/rayon blend fabric for a summer top; on the spinning wheel is a blend of merino/silk that will be a sport weight yarn for ??? Don't know if I'll dye it and sell it or use it in a project this winter and felting is a small studio type bag that just needs to have a closure put on it.
There's always time to work on fibers - that's how I make enough money to support the gardening habit.
If I could figure out how to post pix, I would, but I'm a bit computer challenged. I'll work on it though.
Thanks for the interest
And YES, we do have winter here. It's even snowed a bit the last two winters so..
Kathy...if you're going to be over in Sierra Vista on a day that I am in town...I'd love to meet up with you...Grammysgarden/Sue has a booth at the Farmer's Market on Thursdays...on Wilcox St..Dr...Ave??
Also, my church will be having a bizzaar on Nov. 1st...want to rent a booth for your fiber crafts? Jo
oh those all sound great! i think a loom would be fun to see the pattern develop--and i think i know what you mean by "felting" and i like what i have seen--
as for being computer challenged--welcome to my world!
Jo, why don't you send me the info on the craft sale in a DM and I'll ponder on it.
Strangely enough, I seldom get to SV....seems like we're in Tucson a lot so I shop there. But I'll try for the farmer's market sometime in the next couple of weeks. I think about it, but I just don't get around to getting over there for it. Wish it was on Wed so I could combine it with Fry's senior day.
Have a great 4th
Kathy
I figured out the picture thing - not so hard after all. Here's the sweater I just finished.
I love the sweater....I wish I had a little boy that would fit it...but my Great grand kids are girls. I do have a 13 YO grandson though...he's a heartbreaker. LOL
We'll get together some time...on July 17th we have our seniors group at church (on Buffalo Soldiers Trail) and I usually go on up to the Market after the luncheon. Heck! If you're over 50 you can join us for the Happy Achers thingy...we have a great time...no need to belong to my church...just come on. JoJo
Kathy, St David is beautiful this time of year! I would love to see your work! And I always love to see Jo! Let me know ahead of time and I'll try to have enough help, I can get out for a few!
