Patty, you have a dmail.
Tropical Garden #12
Wow guys, it was nice to wake up to those wonderful pictures! So inspiring!
Rita, I don't know what happened to your picture, I primise I didn't steal them, lol!!!! I actually googled the plants you described to see what they looked like!
Was the T. Mysorensis in Houston doing ok? Well, if it was I still have hope as I am zone 10!
lilimerci, yes it is the white one incredible fragrance. it flowered a couple months ago then stopped now it just started again today. i could tell as soon as i walked outside. i have all my frangrant plants in the same area. gardenia heavenscent, jasmine, lady of the night, princess of the night, michelia, hedychiums, begonia odorata, ylang ylang and osmanthus (my new favorite)
Candela, I love tea olive trees. They smell like peaches. I grew up in Charleston SC and my father's company use to have big company picnic every year at Magnolia Gardens. There is a section that you walk through and it smells like peaches and the tea olive tree reminds me of that.
The purple allamanda vine is also known as a malay rubber vine. I have also seen it referred to as a blue allamanda vine. Yes it needs full sun and they don't like to dry out either.
Your chocolate swirl is pretty; I have not seen that cultivar in my area. I'm wondering if its a new one. I will try and get a picture of my cherries jubilee allamanda.
Here is a picture of my yellow allamanda shrub; I don't have the yellow vine allamanda though. I do prefer the shrub just because I don't have a lot of places to put vines.
phughes, I would love to have a purple allamanda seedling. You have D-Mail.
Your purple and your yellow allamanda shrub are very large, beautiful plants.
How long did it take for them to get that size?
The thread is getting a little long, anyone is welcome to start a new one. Without any rain for some time now, I am running out of blooms.

I bought a 5 gallon container of the yellow. It has taken probably four to five years for it to grow to that size.
The purple allamanda was also a 5 gallon good sized plant, but it is only two years old this year and I've trimmed it back last year after the growing season.
gessiegail, all your plants are just beautiful, especially the orchid.
I have just been out here in the country for two years so I am just starting...............but I find that orchids grow so easily on my front porch.....even with our horrible winds. Thanks
Gessiegail, I absolutely love your variegated plant combo!!!
Wow Gail everything has taken off especially your begonias. Don't you just love the smell of that plumeria!!!!! Every time Craig talks about moving out somewhere (in the country) I tell him "NO!!!!" and I always remember your comments about rattlesnakes. That's all I would have to do is run into one of those and that would take care of my gardening addiction.
phughes, now that I am retired, I have all the time to watch my new plant grow, thank you.
I do have a yellow allamanda that I planted in the ground this spring. I thought it would perk right up and put out lots of blooms, but it is barely alive right now. I gave it a little root stimulator this morning. After seeing your picture, I really do not want to lose her.
Gessiegail, you have such lovely big plants, and some that I have never seen before like the pink Jatropha and the ginger plant. Do you know the name of the ginger?
Love the bougainvilla picture, I can see all three of them.
I too, share your fear of snakes we have had several in the house in past years.

Gail be patient on the corkscrew vine; they bloom late. I lost mine from last year (overwatering during the dormant season I think), but grew another from seed; I have it planted in a new spot; hopefully I will be able to overwinter it. I'm also going to keep one on the patio this year in a pot and try to overwinter it that way. This is the second year in a row that I have lost my corkscrew vine during winter. I've just been lucky to get one seed pod with a few seeds each year. My sister has one that I planted at her house and it overwintered just fine. It's growing like a weed, but its not blooming either so don't worry about yours. I feel certain it will bloom in the not-too-distant future.
Rita the best bloom I ever got on my yellow allamanda shrub was using osmokote on it regularly. As for the cherries jubilee, it gets FE cause it is behind my hydrangea and that's what I use for them. The purple allamanda just gets MG say once a month. The best juice of all is God given rain!!!!
Pretty hibiscus. If you're a big fan of tropical hibiscus and ever come to South Texas, there is this nursery in Rockport called Bloomers that specializes in tropical hibiscus. They are beautiful. I don't grow hibiscus myself anymore but I have been tempted to buy one called Pink Lemonade--a beautiful pink and yellow flower.
I cannot get over the bloom on the cane begonias. What are you feeding them, placenciarita? Mine are on the front porch and blooming but not like yours!
Patty, I haven't been to Bloomers since they enlarged so much. No wonder I noticed that Johnson's isn't carrying the beautiful ones they have always had........I must must get to Bloomers.
Either Tuesday or Wednesday, let's do lunch and go to Bloomers, Patty.......the kids won't be here until Thursday or the 18th (whatever day that is)
phughes, I am a big fan of the Tropical Hibiscus, I would enjoy a visit to that nursery. My DH is always wanting me to go with him to Rockport on his fishing trips, I will now.
There is also a Green Gate nursery recommended by gessiegail located between San Antonio and Houston. We are waiting for the weather to get cooler.
Thanks for the tips on the yellow allamamda
I am not feeding mine enough.........thanks for the hint.........
I added a new thread:

Hope I did this right.
Rita,
Come on down the next time DH has a fishing trip. If you need someone to take you nursery shopping, LMK and I will be more than happy to spend a day showing you some of our local nurseries. Rockport has three; Ingleside has a nice one; and Corpus Christi which is a little further up the road has several.
You will love Bloomers. They have 1 gallons start of Tropical Hibiscus and they are $4 a piece. They have bigger 5 gallons too and they run between $20 to $30 to $35 depending on the cultivar.
Patty
Patty's a wonderful person and a lot of fun! There's my endorsement..
and Patty...I really enjoyed Rita when she came through Houston...no doubt you guys will have a great time.
Rj
Sounds good Rita. I have a gardening buddy that loves to shop too and a van that will accommodate us!!!
Hey RJ how's it going? I've been meaning to dmail just had lots going on and family visiting.
I started to say, "Don't leave me out on a fun trip to nurseries". Have no idea if you were referring to me, but if I can go, I want to!!!!!!!!!
