Tropical Garden #12
Jplunket, what a gorgeous yard you have............thanks for sharing
candela, You have the Jungle , my garden is a little oasis. It is only 50 X 70 with two paths 2 ft. wide. I try to get as much as I can in there with enough room to move around without stepping on any plants.
Can you tell me more about your potato tree,? I have a potato bush with little blue flowers, the leaves do not look like yours.
No bloom on my helocania yet, in the meantime I will enjoy yours, thanks for sharing.
Rita, I had never seen a T. Coccinea, it looks lovely too! Oh boy....
By the way, I can't believe you're calling your garden small! lol! At least from the pictures, it looks like a true jungle!
Blue sky vine taking over? I'll take some. I got some cuttings but they did not root well in the dirt. I'm still waiting to see if it will make a comeback.
Oh, but look, I finally have a tropical plant to show off. :) It's from a cutting I bought in Feb. Did not expect to see inflos this year. Very nice surprise.
I have two mandevillas (one red and one pink) and just love them. I think yours looks so nice on that white arbor. It really show off the color. Wish I had that to display mine.
Thankyou P. I think one of my next projects will be to just go to Lowes and pick up a piece of white pvc lattice for about $12.00 and get a big 5 gallon white plastic paint bucket to put it in. I think I can buy the empty paint buckets. Any way, I can bend the lattice curved style to fit in the bucket, fill it with potting soil and plant a vine or another mandevilla in it. The weight of the soil will keep it uprite. I may have to get a 2' x 8' piece instead of the 4 x 8. But that should only make it less expensive. I love lattice.

I've thought about buying some of that plastic lattice stuff too and doing something like that. Please post pictures if you do this. I would love to see it and get a picture in my mind of what you do.

Will do Patty. If I could describe it properly, I wanted to tell you about something I saw at Lowes. It was about 4' tall by 4' wide. It was white pvc lattice with a frame around it. The top of it was slightly curved. It was only about $26.00. That could easily be attached to your house with large cup type hooks. Place it about 6' up and place your pot under it and let them grow. Or again buy the 4 x 8 and purchase 2 hanging basket hooks. Attach the hooks under your eave of your house and put your pot in the front of it. Mandevilla's can grow quite tall. But only if they have something to twine around and up. If not they twine around themselves instead of up.
Candela, the Bengal Tiger is the green striped Canna in the middle.

Wow what pretty colors Gail. I'm not sure where I could put another vine but I sure do like the colors you've got there. I just had Seth help me dig three holes on the outside of the patio so I could plant three of my vines that were in pots but not thriving.
BTW, do you want a couple of purple allamanda vine seedlings? I have babies in small pots that popped up in my flower bed from seeds that have gone astray. I potted em up. I have already given several away to friends in town and to a couple of my DG coleus buddies. They would look really good on your fence line.
We need to get together next week and do lunch and plant shop. I'm working tomorrow morning and then it's my anniversary so Craig and I will be going to dinner in the afternoon. On Saturday I have a birthday party for my SIL in Woodsboro, and my nieces are visiting also and will be there. What do you have planned for next week?
Patty
Thank you--a very nice picture too. What is the colored foliage on the top middle of the photo? some alternantera cultivar? Very pretty. I love the planter in the picture above it. I NEEEEED one of those. hahahaha
placenciarita--any interest in a purple allamanda seedling; I'll send you one if you have a place for it and like it. It's requires full sun, is a big growing vine that will bloom all summer long. I love it cause of the length of its bloom season but I'm trying to figure out how I can lead it to the fence which is behind the trellis that I have it on and not have my husband go ballistic when it grows the length of it. Plus I just love allamandas; I have three different cultivars.
