Rita, Do you know the name of this plant that we got at Northaven Gardens last summer? It's just starting to climb. Jerry

Texas -

your vine looks like some kind of Aristolochia vine, there are several diff. varieties though. The blooms vary and many (if not all) are host plants to several butterfly species. I am just getting into these vines myself - they are very unique and have very unusual blooms.

Dallas, TX

floridabunnie, Thank you. I do remember that name now. Jerry

Red Oak, TX

Texasbigleaves, your plumaria is very pretty, do you know how tall the dwarf will get?
Your first vine is a veriagated stephanotis, I have the plain leaf version and it is not blooming yet.
Floridabunnie is right about the second one, it is a Aristolochia Gigantea(dutchman's pipe vine).
Do you remember the name of these very tall yellow flowers?

Placenciarita, What is the name of the Pipe Vine ( largest flower ) that we got from ZONE 9, on our trip to RJ's.

Dallas, TX

Placenciarita, If the yellow flower is from me i do'nt know its name. I got it at the TAN Show in '03. No tag on it. Jerry

Dallas, TX

Your GIGANTEUM is looking great, hope it has plenty of room. It will get big and bigger.

Dallas, TX

Placenciarita, Your Variegated Monstera is really growing and with fruit. Did the one i gave you live? How about the yellow one? Jerry

Texasbigleaves, the white variegated monstera that you gave to me is still alive with very delicate, all- white leaves. The yellow one is doing very well, it has put out two new, perfect leaves.
This is a picture of what the bloom will look like on your Dutchmans pipe vine. (Aristolochia Gigantea)

Thanks Rj, I will take a look.

Placenciarita, Is this a pic. of your Aris. Gigantea that you got on our trip to RJ's. Mine is about 2-3ft. no blooms no buds. Jerry

Red Oak, TX

Texasbigleaves,This plant with the bloom is about 3 or4 years old. I would dig it up every fall and keep it in the greenhouse. I did buy a few other vines from Zone 9, all of whom are doing OK.
Here is another that I bought from Northaven in Dallas last year. It was blooming in May.

Do they have any smell? Good or bad? Jerry

Red Oak, TX

Texasbigleaves, I cannot remember a smell, but from what I read, they have a mild and pleasent bouquet. Some say they smell like lemons, but the foliage stinks if crushed.

After seeing all the beautiful hanging bromeliads I keep thinking of doing the same...but I think it's too hot for it outside!

TBL- the fragrance is unmistakeable and ...mmmm...best term...pungent....
Wayne waters them with a weak solution of 202020 everyday. But if your like me..they'll be lucky to get their 2 week allowance!

More rain ! still have to water the potted..what a hot summer!

robcorreia, Very lovely pictures, I love the big Palms in the background. You could probably put your bromeliad under the canopy of a tree.
Bromeliaworld.com shows exactly which ones can take the full sun.
Are those white Cannas? I have tried to buy white ones before, I paid big bucks and they always bloom a light yellow or cream color.
I did not know that Marantas bloom.

Rj, no rain here, I am at the bottom of the rain water barrel for my philodendron. I was reading about your mosquitoes. I hope everything works out for your plant-swap party.

I think we are going to pay for having a "cool" day yesterday- it was 88F here...it's spooling up quick today for the heat...

Rita, that's a great idea about hanging the bromeliads from the palm trees, how come I never thought of this! My cannas are white but they probably are just like yours, with a hint of cream,....I don't mind, they're still so pretty! Yes, Marantas bloom, but it's not their "forte" anyway...I could go without the blooms and it would be just as pretty.
Rj, Erythrinas are some of my favortie trees! They're all blooming over here too. There are some by the I-5 that must be at least 70 ft tall!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I believe it was Rob who posted that wonderful color honeysuckle vine. I gotta have that one!

Happy Independence Day!

This is the day, to use the Gipper's words, that "commemorates the only true philosophical revolution in all history.

"Oh, there have been revolutions before and since ours. But those revolutions simply exchanged one set of rules for another. Ours was a revolution that changed the very concept of government.

"Let the Fourth of July always be a reminder that here in this land, for the first time, it was decided that we are all born with certain God-given rights; that government is only a convenience created and managed by the people, with no powers of its own except those voluntarily granted to it by the people. "
