closer shot of foliage
the down side of the fraxinus would be that I can't move it outside the shade area if it doesn't work there for some reason, it could get too tall to be in the other parts of the yard (powerlines and transformers)
Spring Blooms - Part 13
Hi RC remember that photo of the helleborus you posted in April?
I said I would make a painting and I did but am reluctant to post it (fear of getting booted , might look like self promotion)
I will probably do several more really large ones 2feet highX 4 feet wide.
Great clem shot, Shelly - thanks. Love that last one! Great combo. How's your weather?
I do remember the photo Jo Ann. I would love to see it!!! If you're worried about it you could send a photo of it to me in a Dmail. But, I don't think that others would think it's self promotion since they saw the photo and might remember us talking about it way back when!
such a beautiful primrose nane!
Thanks for asking Victor and Nane! today is overcast again. But yesterday, Wow.... yesterday was finally the first day of spring, after that 3 day summer heat wave the first week of may, that we we able to enjoy! Blue skies and about 77 degrees, it was the first day that I was actually warm in quite a while! Over on the PNwest forums, there's plenty of threads of people cheering the sun. I just had to post a picture, that I'll put below, so that I could brag to folks! There's no good way out of the high water situation with weird weather especially since the mountains have been getting plenty of snow for the last couple weeks that has begun to melt already. So, I actually expect to see the river rise Again by tues or Wed. But, whatever flooding we'll have (I won't, that'll happen downstream from me) is nothing like the Midwest so nobody here is saying a thing about it.
anyhow, this is what I just felt I had to brag about, really not all that exciting of a picture, but it is here.

Haha - you're entitled to celebrate the sun!
Oh good! I'm so glad you agree! Really, if someone would've asked me six months ago if I would've been this overjoyed at a sight like the pic above, I would've told them they were nuts.
aren't most of you getting upper 80's90 type stuff? I'm not all that fond of 90's, so it's definitely give and take right now day under 95 and that you don't have to wear polar fleece out, sounds really appealing!
that water lilly is fanstastic!
Close to 100 today! Thanks, Shelly.
For what area? Fraxinus get big, don't they?
OHhhh..... I can't post a picture of it right now, because I'm not at my home computer to get at it. It's the 1/3 acre area where I have My uki, maybe 30 rhodies, cornus argentinia (sp) variegata, and 150 yr old hemlocks, firs, and cedars that Bill and I think that sasquatch might run around in. There's pictures of it over in spring blooms 11 or 12... don't need to go look though. About half of it is deep shade and the rest is filtered light only.
Sounds ideal for Cornus then. I think Fraxinus likes full sun.
This is true, I was hoping that the variegation to it might make it not quite so sun loving. But, I also saw a picture of the weeping dogwoods fall colors last night and they were great inspite of the variegation. I don't know how the variegated fraxinus fall colors are.... even though I was able to check it out all fall and forgot to do it.
I like dogwoods in general. Kousa, alternifolia and the red and yellow bark shrub types.
Great minds think alike!
Very nice, Dyane. Baptisia is becoming one of my favorite perennials. How are you holding up in the heat?
I'm loving the Baptisia too. Hoping to add more.
Thanks for asking about me. I'm finding it tough to be out in this heat, being so pregnant. I just hate being cooped up in the house. Just came back from a lovely weekend up in NH, it's fun to see what's blooming up North. Lots of Iris, Rhododendron and even Lilacs hanging in there. Nice to see the lakes and mountains.
Here's a blue Campanula, forget which one.
Wow, I really feel for you with this heat. When are you due? My mom gave birth to my sister during a period of over 100 degree days in NYC in '66.
