Show Off Your Gardens !!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Terrie..hit send before I wrote how much I like your garden. How long have you had the EEs there? They look huge. Wish I could grow hostas like that too.

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I love to sit there early in the morning with my coffee before I get dressed for work. It is very peaceful. And don't ask me about names of hostas. :-) I knew what they were when I planted them but I have aged since then. I can say that the lighter green hostas do much better for me than the blues. I love my hostas probably better than my flowering plants.

bigbubbles,

Is that just a regular glass mirror? I want to do something similar since my yard is so small, but I read that I need a plexiglass mirror to stand the external conditions. I have searching for months for a plexiglass mirror that I can get locally and cheap, but have not been successful. Here is a nice illusion gate.

It's just plain ole mirror glass. I figured it would last a few yrs, but it's still fine..no pitting or discoloration. I think I got my money's worth already.....it was FREE! I had another one, on the back fence, lined up with the entrance to the back garden...it looked great, like the yard went on forever...but things started to grow up and I had a friend who just had to have one...so I gave it to her. One mirror is plenty for my small yard.
And how'd they do that gate???? Pretty cool....

We "sold" a huge mirror out of our bathroom because we were remodeling. My husband was concerned that it would weight a ton so he gladly sold it for $10 so someone else would remove it from the wall and carry it out.

edit for GLADLY, not gainly! Where did that come from?? LOL

From Big Bubbles: Thanks jataylor. Did you get any damage from the storm a couple of weeks ago? We have a place at LBJ and a funnel cloud went over our street about 7:30 AM...same morning as another storm that went thru Austin at midnight.

Yes Big Bubbles, we had some damage, but not like some of the places around us in the neighborhood ....... one neighbor lost almost every tree on their place ........ very sad ..... I spoke to someone from Kingsland who has a video of 4 tornadoes dropping down in Kingsland are ...

I used to know how to do quotes ............ but i forgot!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow...four tornadoes! Our place is at Sunrise Beach. Neighbors who live fulltime up there saw a funnel cloud touch down in the cove, then tear across our little peninsula, and into open water...heading toward Horseshoe Bay. We only had limbs down, but two neighbors had metal roofs ripped off....and lots of uprooted trees on our street. My plan is to not go up there in May ever...anymore....

Thanks, Bigbubbles! The EEs have been there about 5 years. Unfortunately, they are getting TOO big for the area and covering up another hosta and a couple other plants. :(

Wow, I love that door illusion! Back to your mirror, Bigbubbles. Is it sitting on the ground or do you have it attached somehow?

Very nice, Blue! I love the stonework on your house!! How's your Winged Loosestrife doing?

Fort Worth, TX

It's doing great! That's it in the lower left-hand corner of the butterfly garden photo.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

I thought it was! Mine just started blooming a few days ago. They are in the same family as Mexican Heather, which is why they look so much alike. The Winged Loosestrife is erect and has more of a purple flower than Mexican Heather, plus it's a perennial. I hope you enjoy yours, Blue!

It's about to bloom and I can't wait!

ooops it's blooming!

WHAT??? No shutters and flower box on that cute little shed???

Your place is beautiful, the patio stunning. I have a serious case of patio envy.

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks! Actually, I am planning to put some shutters on, probably matching the red color of the front door. :)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

bluesmaven...love your butterfly garden...
Dennis...that's the cutest shed, looks like a little art studio...or potting room...endless possibilities...beautiful gardens

Terrie...as per request...here's a little better pic of how the mirror is attached. There's a small board at the bottom, the length of the mirror, that DH routed so the mirror would sit flush against the fence. On the sides and top are just little chunks of wood screwed down. And the mirror is about 18" off the ground. Greenery hides bottom of mirror, and tree leaves hide top (or did before the hailstorm). Nothing fancy... Hope it helps..if not I have a pic of the bottom board I can send...

My dad and I built the shed, with some help from my wife when we sided it (with cedar fence boards). But my dad ended up one-upping me with his shed, which has a similar design but has a cupola with a copper wind vane, stone siding, and an antique stained glass window!

I'd love to see a photo of your Dad's one day....sounds perfect!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

HOLY COW, that was SERIOUS case of one-ups-manship!!! Let me guess, your Dad is RETIRED and YOU work full time??? LOL, cut yourself some slack. Your's is beautiful, your Dad's sounds SPECTACULAR!!!

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

You are right about the retirement status! :)

(I didn't mention that his is also built out of wood from a deck he demolished - 2x6 wolmanized. It also functions as a tornado shelter...)

I happen to have a couple of shots of his. Enjoy!

That is beautiful! After driving thru Iowa last week and seeing where tornados had touched down, wwwhoooooo, I'm glad I live in an area that doesn't get any!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

You've just made my DH a very unhappy person, Dennis. Now I'm going to pester him for a "playhouse" for me. We have a small storage shed that needs to be replaced. Those two structures should not be called "sheds," however. They are like garden art. Thanks for sharing. Sandi

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

"Garden Art" is sooooooooo correct!!! Alas, we don't have time to construct a simple metal DIY shed at this point, so no use begging my husband for one of those beauties!

Sandi, you have to share pics when get your "garden art"!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

It'll be a while....he's replacing the kitchen counters this week... Yep, he retired, and I have a list!!!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

You go girl! The way to live with a retired man is to keep him busy! You have heard the saying "for better or worse but NOT for lunch"? I'm convinced these women didn't have a big enough "to do list!"

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Don't mind the lunches...it's the nap every afternoon that I don't understand??????? Oh well, he doesn't beat me and he lets me buy plants...I can't complain too much!
Back outside, just in to col off.

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Bigbuggles, thanks for the upclose of the mirror. Makes perfect sense. :-)
