I WANT a rock walkway sooooooooooo bad I can TASTE it!

This year I'm attempting to take out ALL the grass and START my walkways. They will likely not be rock this year, can't afford it. Ohhhhhhh but I love looking at other people's walkways and dreaming of my own!

in front of tree... and I put that patio in by myself 25 years ago. DH ordered 7 tons of stone and then left to go fly for two weeks....Never thought it would last this long or we'd still live here (or I'd have done a better job)....

Thanks jataylor. Did you get any damage from the storm a couple of weeks ago? We have a place at LBJ and a funnel cloud went over our street about 7:30 AM...same morning as another storm that went thru Austin at midnight.

Everyone's gardens look so beautiful!! Here area few pics of mine...

My attempt this year at a tropical corner...there's a little fountain in the middle. The elephant ears are taking over now.

Here is my herb garden which also has a few other things in it as well. A work in progress.

Very pretty!

Texas has got some great gardens!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Very nice! Are your EE is sun or shade? I have mine in pots and keep moving them around. Love the herb garden too.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Well....they get a bit of both. They are situated under a tree...not directly under it but kinda on the outer circle of it. That side of my house faces south, so depending on where the sun is during the day the tree will cast shade in different directions. But I suppose they get quite a bit compared to the rest of my beds. They are growing 'feet' into the fountain now..lol.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks. got mine from the tropical co-op and have them all in pots...but they are out growing their pots. Need to place them somewhere now. BTW, is that corn against the fence?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes...my veggie garden is back there...you are seeing the sweet corn. Didn't do too well this year but I did get a few tasty ears.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

big bubbles,

LOVE the pic of your side yard!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

My neighbor thought she was growing some exotic grasses in her flower bed, and we think it turned out to be corn that the squirrels had dropped from her corn cob feeders.
Thanks Tir....I had some nice roses in there, but they weren't fond of non-gardnener DH....so they snagged him with thorns everytime he walked by 'em. How can anyone hate a rose?

Plano, TX(Zone 7a)

Just moved into this house a few months ago. Backyard was completely bare, even the lawn was pretty much dead. Very small yard, barely 30 x 20.
Work in progress, still a lot more to do.

F6r22, you have a WONDERFUL start! It is sooooo satisfying to "reclaim" a yard, please give us LOTS of pictures along the way.

Blue eyes, what is the little blue bloom in the "side view"? I can't believe how lush some of that is for being one year old! I am in deep ENVY!!!

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

f6r, is your fence stained to? I think it looks really nice! We prefer that look and how it helps prolong the fence but moved into a place where the fence has grayed over time. :(

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I knew a guy who would power wash the fence, use some cleaner and then stain the wood. It restored grayed wood to REALLY looking new!!! You might look into it Tir-Na-Nog.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

yes we have tried that. likely our pressure washer doesn't have a strong enough psi but we redid new boards just the road frontage of the fence and sealed it.

Plano, TX(Zone 7a)

thanks. Yes the fence is stained. The previous owner put up the cheapest white pine fence they could just before they sold it. We had to stain it or it probably would not last long.

Here's the wide shot of my big combo bed in the back yard corner. It's about 50% perennials, 30% daylilies, 3 bushes/trees, 7 roses, with bulbs rounding it out. I built it in October '06, so it's really taken off this year.

OOps I wanted the better right side picture. This one was from last week and does not have all the pots on my bench (the ones that were for the swap that I missed) :)

We had a bunch of landscaping installed in the front yard in the early spring. All of needs to fill in, but here's one of the beds. The mandevilla in the pot in the right of this bed has been doing so well, blooming non-stop since I got it in April, that I have to post this picture. I have never bought mandevilla in the past because I am always too scared that it's too picky. I have been very pleasantly surprised with this one and I will never go a year without one again.

Really pretty setting in the corner yard....love all the daylillies too.

Beautiful flowerbeds, Stacie. Xman, I converted a good chunk of my backyard into flowerbeds, slowly but surely. The in-between time is fun and exciting, and the finished product is well worth the effort.

Here is the north Texas gardeners' best friend -- mulch. The City is redoing my neighborhood's streets (+ water and sewer lines) and cut down/mulched all the trees in the median last fall. I took as much Live Oak mulch as I had storage space for. I didn't need to buy mulch this year and most likely won't need to buy it next year either. The City has saved me a bunch of money!

Wow, Staci! Your gardens have really come a long way. I love the slate around your beds. I also got a red mandevilla this year and it has done so well! I am going to take it in the house over the winter to see if I can have a head start for next year.

f6r22, where do you live in Plano? We might be neighbors! I am in the neighborhood that is surrounded by 15th, Independence, Park and Custer, between Plano Senior High and Vines High School.

Bigbubbles, I love your gardens! If you have a different angle on your mirror, I would love to see it. I've been thinking on doing a mirror in the garden for some time. Is it framed in wood and how does it wear with the elements?

Terrie,

I am at Independence and Mcdermott. Good to see that hostas are doing really great in your garden. I am planning to start getting some hosta. What are the kinds of hosta that have done well for you. Your garden looks so peaceful, do you sit on that bench often?

xman

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Terrie...here's a little closer pic. The walk curves down behind the pond. The mirror has been there for nearly 10 yrs now. It's a big ole mirror that went over double sinks in DD's bathroom when they remodeled. It has no frame, been exposed to nearly all the elements..rain, wind, hail, freezes, and a cardinal that spends most of his time defending his territory pecking on it. Never tire of telling visitors to "sneak a peek" into neighbor's yard...and seeing their reaction.
