I think this is Penstemon barbatus Iron Maiden, but it could be P. eatoni? I grew them both from seed last year and planted the two types right next to eachother. These are my first blooms. They seem more coral to me, than red like they were described.
Signs of summer- What do you have blooming?
Thanks Seandor.. I like posting on threads too... but I have so many pics now and it is so much faster to load there :)
I love seeing all the bloom pics :)
Susan
You salvia nut, you! I'm gonna have to look into that transylvatica...transylvanica? I can't see the post now!
I would say that that your penstemon is P. barbatus ; to my experience P.eatoni is rrreeaaaalllly tall and lighter pink. Of course, that was in AZ, so they may be shorter where they don't get blasted by the sun every single hour of the day.... regardless, I bet you have hummers.
Edited for forgotten sentence ... duh!

Here is where I got seeds http://www.dianeseeds.com/salvia-transylvanica.html
I thought they were the barbatus thank you for confirming for me. : ) I do have an occasional hummer right now. I hope to have more soon. Hopefully I will get some fledglings like last year. They seem to stick around the longest and aren't as timid to buzz around my head when I'm gardening. : )
cactuspatch, I love you pride of barbados. I got seeds from a trade and started 3, they must be beautiful large bushes where you live. : )
Looks yummy here!
Pagancat, thank you! The high altitute light is pretty harsh. Now if I lived on the coast where the light is nice an soft...... Oh, well I'd probably rust from the humidity
>creeeaaak...< ...
OMG, the Pride of Barbados is gorgeous : ) Thank you for sharing the picture : )
I went back and looked at it again and I noticed a swallowtail on it. : )

Good eye Meredith. The butterflies and hummers swarm to it.
Beahive your gardens are so lovely. I would need to grow cleome in partial shade and seeing your photo has me eyeing an area that is full of ice plant I could remove to plant one!
myezek, just try taking your photos in the dawn or dush light. It shows to nicest colors in my climate, as I assume it would for you too. My Berries and Cream is blooming now too, didn't take a photo though.
What is your last photo? It is gorgeous with that big old butterfly.
That is a closeup of the Pride of Barbados BOP that Meredith had noticed a butterfly in my other photo.
That yellow statice is so pretty. Been trying to add a bit more yellow to my garden also. So cheery.
Hi Will some one start a new thread for July "Mid summer - What do you have blooming" with a photo Please.
I know this is getting long for some folk, and I do not have access to my computer and photos.
Thank you ^_^
