Signs of summer- What do you have blooming?

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Joann - The yard is coming along. Trying to have four seasons of
color if possible. Winter still needs to be added..so I will be looking and shopping it looks like through the end of this year. I can give ya a tour anytime.. Just give me a heads up... I am enjoying the sunshine very much too.

Beahive, all your flowers are gorgeous. What cultivar of iris is that? I love the expression on the gnome's face. It looks like he really is annoyed by the iris!

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

the bearded iris is a Noid. Working on the Id.Will advise if successful.
The gnome is annoyed. The iris is blocking his view of the garden!!
Another noid from yesterday..but pretty anyway!

BeaHive, you certainly have some lovely irises there.
It looks like you incorporate them among other perennials .
I put most of mine in a row and do not like it as well as having them here and there with other flowers.I need to move them but hate to miss a year of bloom.

Found this little poem on-line.... I'm sure many can relate!

The Gardeners Spouse....

She dug the plot on Monday, the soil was rich and fine
But she forgot to put the dinner on, so out we went to dine.

She planted roses Tuesday, she says they are a must.
They really were quite lovely, but she forgot to dust.

On Wednesday it was daisies they opened with the sun,
All pinks and whites and yellows, but the laundry wasn't done.

The poppies came on Thursday all bright and cherry red,
I guess she really was engrossed, she never made the bed.

It was violets here on Friday in colours she adores,
It never bothered her at all, the dirt upon our floors.

Saturday I hired a maid, I'd not admit defeat,
She can garden all she wants now and the house will still be neat

It's nearly lunchtime Sunday I cannot find the maid,
Oh I don't believe it. She's out there alongside my wife with her own spade!

staceysmom, I really like that poem I'm going to print it and hang it on the fridge and hope my dh sees it.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

gardengus..I like to mix it up.. All my plants share space in the ground and above. Then you won't have "dead space" following
the blooming cycle of the plant. One thing finishes another starts. It also helps cover up the plants that need to die back before you can cut them back.
If you lift your Iris carefully ,I do not think you will loose blooms next year. If you need to divide them, then that is another story..

Found this little gem at K-mart today. Torenia-Dutchess Blue.
(macro-side view)
Say's its an annual , but I think I may move it indoors this fall and try to keep it going as long as possible. The colors on this are so vibrant.. It's a keeper!

This is a front view of the Torenia-Dutchess Blue. It reminds me a of child having a crying tantrum..holding their hands to the crying eyes.

It does look like that Bea! Cute. I had some Torenia a couple of years ago growing in a container. I showed the little neighbor girl the "wishbone" inside them..... she had later pulled quite a few apart making wishes before her mommy caught her. She looked like the crying child you pointed out when mom scolded her. I felt so bad, I planted up her own little torenia the following year.

Gardengus, Beahive is right. If you move a clump of iris carefully without disturbing it too much, it will more than likely bloom for you next year. I moved a clump last fall -- in fact I split a large clump into 2 clumps and moved them both. I had blooms on each clump this year. I also had some individual rhizomes bloom this year that were planted last year. I guess it depends somewhat on the maturity of the rhizome.

Beahive, when irises are as beautiful as yours are, who needs a name!

I like mixing everything together, too. I suppose I'm not good at planning formal gardens so I go with the "natural" look. Don't we call them Cottage Gardens?! LOL!

Staceysmom, great poem. It's impossible to work outdoors and indoors at the same time. Besides, if the dust gets too thick, just plant flowers in it!

BeaHive..........What are those "pokers?"

This photo of wildflowers taken a week ago while on the way to work looks "cottage like" to me.

One more......It's funny isn't it? No matter how hard we work in our gardens, Mother Nature still comes along and kicks our butts.

early bloomer..the poker shown are called poker primroses. The picture above is their second year. They are a very easy & showy flower in my zone.

Be sure to use clay pots. I tried making one today with plastic pots for an herb garden...Ahhh! It is all messed up. To light I think...slipping & sliding ..Will need to try again..

Wow, Bea, love your stack pots too. Good to know that plastic doesn't work. My only concern too would be the amount of water it all takes. Since the pots are smaller it would seem you would be watering several times a day?

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

What climber is that?? :)

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I have mine hooked up to an automatic drip line... Also you can paint the inside of the pot (polyurathane) to help retain moisture & add moisture crystals to the soil.

soulgardenlove...the yellow rose is Sky’s the Limit. This is it's second season with me and has almost made its way to the top of the gazebo. Beautiful climber! Close up of the flowers.

I love all the photos, but I must say, I really love the delphinium, BeaHive, the verbena, dale-a-gardener, Illoquin's Crinum, Early Bloomers foxglove,

Oh, BeaHive! I just saw the stacked pots! That's brilliant!

soulgardenlove - the flower slideshows are the coolest!

Gee, I miss soooo much when I don't check in every day.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

artemiss..the silver wave & silver thyme..what a great idea to pair the two. Looks lovely. I never knew that petunia's can be used as a cut flower. They look so colorful and your kitty approves. Growing petunia's from seed is something. The seeds are so tiny..I was cross eyed by the time I got them all done. So rewarding however once they start blooming!
