Thanks, sjms for confirming that for me. I really love it, as well as many of the old fashioned plants. They need little care, and do their thing proudly and magnificently. Some years they incredibly bright blue, and I'm a sucker for blue anyway. They chose to fill in this neglected space on their own, and I couldn't be happier!

Celeste:

We just purchased Sandwort this year and already I am in love with it. Tell me, does it spread much?

Shirley:

That's so wonderful that the Forget-Me-Nots did that for you. What a pretty picture!

Indeed, Candyce - it's nice when someone helps with the chores! If they hadn't moved in, the ivy would have. How they managed to push that out I don't know, but I'm very glad!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Candyce...not sure about the sandwort, just got it myself!

Oh well. Can't blame a gal for trying to find out the scoop on a new plant baby. I guess we'll both find out together and compare notes.

Clematis Reiman opening. This photo does not really capture the color or the texture well enough. It's a velvety rich purple.

Side view of the front. Still have spots to fill in. The area in the forefront is tough. The plow always dumps a huge pile in this area so it can remain wet for a long time. The soil itself is well draining and even a bit sandy. It's all-day sun and not usually irrigated much. So my approach has been to use drought-resistant type plants, but depending on how long the pile of snow/ice is there, it can look bad come spring.

Same, but with a mass on top. Not thrilled with this look. Kind of freaky to me and detracts from the JM. If they were distributed throughout it might be better. And after the blooms are over, it will just be this mass of foliage up there. So next year I will either try to guide the stems throughout the tree - not easy, or move it.

My first bloom on the tree peony I bought last fall. The flower is almost as big as the whole plant - and my nieces face!!
