Spring Blooms part 11

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nope they are perennials and I have the Salmon one too!! LOL

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I think that it is papaver oriental "beauty of livermore" Looks identical to one that my mom has. It's huge!

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Perennial type, and the clump just keeps getting bigger and bigger. There are 3 blooms on it, when I took the pic this morning, there was only the 1 bloom! I believe, without counting them, there are about 20+ blooms between all 3 cultivars that I have.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do they bloom throughout the summer?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

no, it seems like they go through about late July and the they start the process of becoming summer dormant... usually

So about a month of bloom?

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Yep, about 4-6 weeks. I have seen big swaths of them that seem to bloom a little longer, but mine are still babies. That particular plant has been in the ground for 2 years, so this is it's second flowering season. Last year I only had 3 blooms, it about tripled, so far, it's still sending flower stalks up.

Yep, in regard to size of flower, it's (when it's full open) about 6" or so across, give or take.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Blooms in late May here and becomes dorment in late summer, can't disturb the plants for transplant until all vedgetation is brown otherwise plant won't grow, divisions are made from root cuttings.

I only tried perennial poppies once and all three croaked! Maybe I'll try again. Perennials have to bloom at least 3 or 4 weeks for me to consider them, unless they have interesting foliage. When space is limited you have to be more discriminating!

this pic I think is a great size reference to the flower, ok it's a little disceptive, but not much. I'm not sure if mine is beauty of livermore of if it's something else. But, that's my cat running around under it. She's no small cat either!

I like the foliage - so does the cat.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

If I knew how to make one of those cat faces out of characters on the keyboard i would. Yep she did, but she wasn't picky....she liked to be anywhere I was.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds like my Crash. I call him my protective service cat. He stays within a certain radius at all times!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

lol, those are the best kind! Then Crash is a fitting name!

Rhinebeck, NY(Zone 5b)

I am sold! I'm mad for orange in my hot garden and I'm up for finding some of these here Beauties of Livermore.

Isn't it funny how great orange looks with purple like this flower? You'd never think it would, but whenever I see those 2 colors together in a garden...like this poppy with something like big purple aliums or something...they look so great. And in the fall, nature puts orange and purple together all the time.

And that pussy cat looks just like my wonderful old Gandalf, who now resides in kittykat heaven with other kitties. Exact same silvery grey.

I think that it would go great in your garden. Just don't forget that they are typically a summer dormant plant. I thought that mine had died the first year I had it.

Maybe our kitty cats are friends up there now! and they're probably discussing there favorite spots in the garden.

I finally figured out the name of mine. It's Papaver orientale 'Turkenlouis'

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Purple and orange are one of my favorite color combos - and they are opposite on the color wheel, so they compliment each other.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

YA gotta love a cat, they don't demand anything except the touch of a human hand, no walking, no throwing sticks.
Thay have their own life and respect yours, mine knows when I'm not well and he stays clear ,wont even sleep at my feet.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I gotta get me some of those poppies that Thom has!

I have spring blooms, but hardly ever post their pics. Mostly because I'm too busy. Either that, or I think the shots are boring.

Here's some recent pics:

Love that iris.

I am so envious of your ability to grow clematis. I kill every one I touch! I just don't understand them at all, and I love them so much.

Beautiful tree peony, Maria. I'm really disappointed in my two failures. Since we're over 300 posts, I'll start a new thread. Please come here:
