To "Ilovebegonias", stick the cutting in a glass of water, OR dirt, ant it will root!

If you are looking for the first one pictured....beefsteak begonia, not beefsteack geranium - I have a good size one started that you can have.
Chris

Lilly:
You can send Chris a d-mail with your address information. I wouldn't post any personal info on this thread which is open to the public around the world. To send her growgirl59/Chris a d-mail just click on her name to the left above and it will take you to her member page and there's a place there that says send growgirl59 a D-Mail.
Good luck with your new Beefsteak Begonia when you get it and Happy Growing!

TLilie,
I have had Beefsteak Begonia for years!!!! Love them!
If a leaf breaks off--just stick the stem in some light potting mix and keep it barely moist. It will root! Yes! You can also root it in a glass of water and then pot it up.
I keep mine outside all Summer--in dappled shade. They love the humidity!
Mine is like in the first link.
Gita
I had one years ago, but I lost it, and never replaced it. I also had angelwing. Would be nice to have them again, but would my cat eat them? LOL
Audrey
Still looking for one
I don't know anything about this company: http://www.taylorgreenhouses.com/begonia-erythrophyllya.html but they have the Beefsteak Begonia listed for sale. I looked them up in the Garden Watchdog: http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/6059/ and you can scroll down the page and read comments by folks who have purchased from them in the past.
Doe and lillie---
I could mail you some leaves of the Beefsteak one cut from my big Mama plant. A couple cut off won't hurt her any.
And--in Spring--wheen i will be cutting back my Angel Wing Begonis--I can send you both some cuttings--for just postage.
BUT! Please wait until, say, end of April before you ask me. OK?
Then send me a D-mail and remind me of what i said right here. I forget things.....
plantlady--the second link you posted above is not a Beefsteak--it is the "Escargot" begonia--a most beautiful one!
Gita
Here is my Angel Wing (aka Cane) Begonia
And--here is my big Beefsteak begonia in 2008. It is in a 14" heavy, ceramic/clay pot.
edited to add:
When i bring this inside for the Winter--several leaved will fall off of it. That is a given!
I just trim the stems back to about 3" and stick them in water to root. takes a long time--but they do.
You can also root big sections of this plant right into soil. I have 3 going right now--but they are in 8" pots.
If you take a really, really big leaf--you can slit through the large veins and put the leaf on top of some soil and they "should" root where all the cuts are and grow new plantlets. Salad bar containers work great for this. Just melt some holes in the lid for ventilation.
