bloom master 2008

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you... and all of the trailing coleus and a few others came from rosy dawn... and the sun tolerant ones came from NC farms... I do also propagate some from my own cuttings (when I remember to water them, which I failed to do in Oct)... and try to save them for the next season

Well, you sure do a nice job!

Boy I never knew there were trailing coleous, would love to get some next season. Great to know now!

I love them too, though I've never grown them, only the upright ones. The trailers are all propagated vegetatively, right? I guess I'm cheap. I've never seen them (trailers) sold locally though I've not sought them actually. I'm sure local greenhouses sell them. I've been wintersowing for the past 3 years (many plants, cheap, cheap, cheap!) so I don't buy plants anymore. But next year I will try some, inspired by your baskets, onewish. Maybe I'll try a few from Rosy Dawn.

Which of the trailers do you find most sun tolerant?

hhhmmm tough one... most of my trailers are in mostly to full shade... with the exception of these few

those were in 1/2 day afternoon sun... and all of them did well

Karen, once you start buying them ... it's all over. In a good way.

Thanks, onewish. I think they'd do OK on my front porch. It faces southwest but there's a big maple tree in the yard. It gives the plants a couple of hours of direct hot sun from about 11 to 1, then not again until around 4. It's hard to find flowers that will thrive there. The real sun lovers like zinnias don't get enough sun, too much for shade lovers. I want to try some there in the bloom master pots, and some in my few shady areas.

Carrie, I know you're right. I never cared much for coleus at all until the past couple of years. Since wintersowing the past few years I've grown a lot of new things and come to appreciate them more.

And Linda, can't you grow them year-round? You just keep pinching and pinching and pinching and pinching ...

BTW Allison, I still have some of the ones you gave me at the RU that I brought inside. I don't know which are which anymore, but I pinch and pinch and pinch ... Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

your welcome... glad you are enjoying them... when you pinch them.. you can always stick them in some starting mix and you can make more

I don't think I am allowed to have any more at the present time ^_^. You know. I have to clear what I have so far off the table so we can all eat at once, for instance.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

who needs to eat anyway

excellent point!
