Thanks for the update. These planters just get prettier and prettier. Your choice of plants is wonderful! The colors combine so beautifully. What type of fertilizer do you use to bring out all of those colors?

thank you very much....osmocote .... I will add a bit more usually every month... because I want to make sure these are watered through so the bottom still gets some oxygen.... usually by the time I am done it looks like a water feature

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Allison, I am always amazed by what you manage to create with coleus, which as you know I am just starting to incorporate in my containers, or to attempt to incorporate in my containers!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks.... I do think the key with these is to mix them up.... different plants everywhere... so far that side planting list helped me out big time... some things do die quickly planted sideways.... on the backside I was experimenting with things that were not on the list... somethings made it somethings didn't

figured it was time

What's supposed to be happening?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Everything else looks amazing - do you feed your coleus steroids? They're all so healthy and lush!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

tomato plants are supposed to grow upside down Carrie.... still looking skinny... and not too happy

no steroids .... just lots of TLC... and thank you

:)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

OOHHH! sorry they're not happy.... You're welcome, and thank YOU for all the coleus you gave me! :) I took cuttings of them all first, then I went around planting them here and there. Unfortunately one of the theres I tipped over, it was my olde wheelbarrow which I fill with annuals every year. This year I had a lot of pansies, which were actually still doing pretty well, believe it or not, for some reason. I figure the writing was on the wall for them anyway, so why not go out with a bang (or an upset)? Now all I need is a wheelbarrow-full of something else!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

glad you liked them... and sorry to hear about the wheelbarrow

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Awww, it just gives me a justifiable excuse to go buy more pretty flowers!

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

Awesome pics! :)

Okay.. so I have three pots on my front porch and I guess they look okay... but I learned some things! ....

Don't wait till late and all the 6 pack annuals are gone and you have to use 4 inch plants... you can't get enough of them in the pot to really fill it up the way it looks full and lush here as shown and there is not enough room to cram them in together.. oh well.. Live and learn right!! ?? But they still look great and I'll be ready for next year.

I also got a box planted and I'll do that early next year as well.

Love the look of these planters!! Thanks so much for sharing it!! :)

actually I had a ton of plugs this year.... those small little sponges can fit 4 of them easily in the holes... I used either newspaper or left over cowpot (the tops i ripped off before I planted them in the ground) to hold them in place... and stopped the soil from running out ... going to try and do that from now on... but the park seed plugs were the perfect shape to fill the entire hole... they were made for this basket... same shape and a perfect fit... and all the trailing lobiela, wandering jews, coleus (except the ones i bought from rosey dawn which are small plugs too), and sweet potato vines were cuttings that i rooted.... they were so tiny I was able to squeeze them in lots of spots

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

yes start small and early!! :) I know now!! :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL... I learned after my first year too... don't worry it gets easier

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

But up here, when I started small, three of my four coleus from rosydawn died! (I DO NOT have space indoors, so don't suggest that.) Whine, whine, whine!

So that last one you got on eBay? Much cheaper than Bloomaster, I imagine? But not so good, eh. Watching and learning. At least you buy your stuff at the beginning of the summer! I had an attack the other day and bought a couple marked down annuals!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

cheaper but not much... can't even say I got what i paid for

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

Live an learn!! But I appreciate learning from you!! :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

well I figured I have learned so much from soooo many people on here... do and don't s... had to share what I have learned... it's the right thing to do

:)

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

Good for you! yes, i try to share what i have learned too.. it really helps!

You have inspired me. I bought 2 of the tree stands last year and a case of the 11" baskets, but didn't order my plugs in time. I'll have to start them in February this year. What size baskets are you planting in?
I'm going to the Griffins Greenhouse supply expo next Wednesday - and the bloommaster rep should be there. Any questions?
