San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Fauna, now THAT is my kind of fragrance, the one that you can almost taste! ahhhh! I am not familiar with Murrayas, will have to check it out! Beahive: your daylilly is stunning indeed! It wouldn't even metter if it's not fragrant....
BerkeleyAnnie: welcome to our fragrant thread! : )

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Where do ya'll get seeds for the Zaluzianskya capensis???

Hey All - go see Annie's sherbert colored beauties over here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/871345/

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I love the Zaluzianskya too, one of my favorites! I don't grow from seed though, there's a nursery here Annie's Annuals which sells it every year so I get mine from there (they do mail order and I'm pretty sure they have it in stock right now if anyone wants one!)

Joe....names? Is that first Gardenia...which one is it? Hard to tell them apart - Kleim's looks just like Shooting Star to me. And what is that last one...a Datura?

Bucyrus, OH(Zone 6a)

Whoops, the first is Kleim's Hardy, such a wonderful fruity fragrance, the second I think is a lily that has the word snow in its name, the third is good ole datura metel (industrial, well, you know.) :)

LOL...sad...so very, very sad.... ^_^

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Carolina Allspise has a very light fragrance (a friend said as a child it reminded her of fresh cantalope). Its flower is very unique also, looking like a reddish brown paper star with a raised center. I will locate a picture. I have lots of seed if any one is interested. It is a small shrub ??10 x 6 and volunteers easily, not invasive. Birds love it also.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I have heard good things abut that, BB...I've never seen one in "person" though

Bucyrus, OH(Zone 6a)

Oooh I saw the Carolina allspice hybrid in bloom earlier this year. Chantell, it's glorious. I didn't notice a fragrance, but it was a lovely bloom, with beautiful leaves. :)

The citrusy-minty scent wafted in through my kitchen window all day today. I normally have to be working around it to smell the aroma of monarda, but not today. It was delicious!

Kayly - such a pretty color!! Silly me didn't even know the monardas had a scent (duh, I know)...till I was trying to plant things behind and between the huge patches (my 2nd year for them) of them in my back yard...kept thinkin' WHAT is that scent and from "who." Ok...so I finally figured it out....LOL
Bea - never thought of mators have a scent...I'll have to go take a sniffer tonight.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

carolina allspice is popular in houston. I don't have one, but it's on my want list, somewhere, lol.

My Cestrum “Nightblooming Jasmine” is blooming like crazy right now. Even my DH is having a fit over it. My Carolina jasminne is still blooming also but can't compete with the cestrum. LOL

Sinking spring, PA(Zone 5b)

Calycanthus floridus! You guys- I think that is the plant my Aunt and Uncle had in their yard. I've been wondering for years what it is. The flowers are so cool and smell great.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Hmmmm....feeling another "need" fast approaching...but where to shove ANOTHER shrub...??? LOL

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Chantel Seed savers has them!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

There's actually a gal that has them at our RU's each year...might ask pretty please. Now that I think about it...I think she gave me one...last year but it didn't make it....*sniffle, sniffle*

Danielsville, GA(Zone 7b)

I'll have to grow some of the Calycanthus flotdis, I do remember them having a pleasant sent, and Will grow from seed.
I didn't know the monarda had a sent, and I have some growing at my dogs grave.I have the coral...something, like in the pic above.I have tried to grow the red, but failed for two years.Mike

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

Datura Black Currant Swirl, plus other blooms that are smelling nice are a few daylilys that are scented, qn eliz. roses, pesto basil, lavendar, cleome, lantana, a new verbena from work that smells like baby powder first thing in the morning, heliotrope...hmmm I think thats about it right now LOL

I guess it is better to plant when the temp is not off the scale, like in Sept. here.I think I have been setting them out too quick, and too hot.I'll try to put a bug in your ear in late Aug. Thanks Chantell. Mike

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Annie, we're in the same zone and I only got two sweet pea blooms...I thought it was the heat but I can see it wasn't! Do you have yours in sun or shade?

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

rob
I think my zone is wrong. San diego is WAY hotter than Berkeley. there is big debate in DG about what zone we are. My mom live is SD and if i lived there i would plant them so they had morning sun and shade the rest of the day.

Absolutely thrilled to trade fragrant seeds...if I have, I'm happy to trade....!!!
Hmmm:
Nicotiana 'Fragrant Cloud' (later on)
Petunias a larger climbing white rimmed in purple...wonderful spicy scent!(still have some)
Plumies - later on
Hmmmm I should check the gardenias and jasmines...wonder where they hide their seeds?????

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Annie, these zones are a mess anyway. It's more useful to know your sunset zone...mine is 24, do you knwo yours?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Huh? sunset zone? Someone educate me - quick! ^_^

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

as far as i can tell im a sunset 16...24 makes you like florida! I am more like washington state :-)

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

http://www.backyardgardener.com/zone/index.html#sunset

chantell, hasn't been useful for me because most nurseries don't post sunset zone data in the plant tags. maybe out west they do

click on sunset zone maps

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

That's what I was going to say was I don't know that I've seen that on vendor sites....hmmm, does plant files list it? Going to check that site, thank you Nery!
