Nicotiana, Mike...and IMHO just as great of a scent as jasmine or gardenia
Breathe deep & tell us what smells wonderful in your garden
Chantell, my seedlings are doing great! I can't wait! Beahive, the purple roses are THE MOST fragrant of all don't you think? I have Purple Simplicity and my head turns everytime I smell a bloom!
hummmm....!
I think that the ones that carry in the breeze are the best ones! That's why I like cestrum nocturnum so much...
4f4 I'll take a guess at your mystery plant...is it a Sacred Buddhist (Wrightia religiosa)

Boy, that sure looks like it. I think you are right! I am going to double check the catalog of the grower where I got it, and at least see if they carry that plant.
Where may I ask did you get the mystery plant...I found seeds available on ebay but haven't succeeded in finding a reasonibly priced plant yet. Is the fragrance pleasant?
That Ixora odorata looks a nice size, did you get that at the same place? please tell where your getting all these cool plants, I'm already writing them down to look out for them at the USF plant sale in July. I've never heard of Thryallis, looks like it grows well here in Florida by the PF notes. How would you describe the scent, the PF doesn't mention fragrance.
Thryallis is sweet and a little fruity- a very light scent. It isn't very remarkable until the plant is large or there are many grouped together- for example our neighbor has it lining the exterior of their property and when we are riding our golf cart down the street you can really smell it.
The wrightia was a gift to me from another grower who supplies liners wholesale (he also gave me several other plants including a variegated monstera and pink chinese hat flower.)
The Ixora odorata I bought from my employer, and we too are wholesale only I'm afraid. I might do some air layers after she flowers, however- and the Wrightia isn't big enough yet to take cuttings, but I am happy to keep you in mind.
Lucky you f4f, hopefully I'll see them at the USF plant sale...thats where I usually pick up my unusual plants. Thanks for showing them, I never even knew there were fragrant ixora's I always though it was a myth since all the ones I see here in abundance don't smell at all....ie the yellow and red ones.
Samantha - soon as I receive my goodie box this week and check out the plants I will post about this wonderfully, gracious, nice vendor I came across - promise!! I think she'll have at least one of the plants you're looking for and you'll be very pleased with her prices. Matter a fact I'll be posting about two vendors - new to me - at least...that have plants ya'll will be happy with (or already have)
f4f - if you do any air layering would you keep me in mind as well? Sadly try as I did none of the cuttings took...sniffle, sniffle
Yep, I can keep you in mind Chantell if I decide to air layer. That species is very tropical- even here I have to protect it in the winter, so something to keep in mind.
Thank you F4F - it didn't have to be that one exactly - even if you ever air layered the jasmines that you'd sent me cuttings of...I'd have to peek at my trade tracker - I can email you if you like. Shameful begging, I know...I was just so bummed when none took. I'm tellin' I'm truly lacking in soft/hardwood rooting skills! And yes...I know...all my jasmines except, I think, 3 (that are in the ground) will be inside in front of south facing windows during winter/early spring. ^_^ Gots to keep my babies alive and well.
I'm the same! I tried a Ixora cutting and it looks dead now...oops!
OK, you know how to tempt me, Chantell. I'll air layer if you air layer.....how does that sound? BTW, what are you guys doing for your cuttings? You can Dmail me, we don't have to talk about it here. Go to this link to see my "shade" propagation bench.

I am pleased with my progress so far- even some touchy too tender or thrip infested cuttings that were sent to me from trades are doing well. Will think about starting a new series of pictures to post in a few months if I get the time. Have fun!
Very impressive watering system there!!! Dmailing you now. ^_^
Gorgeous Bea...
Fauna, that's a pretty amazing system you got there! I'm jealous (in a happy way!) : )
My DH cooks, too. His specialty is cajun..........now I'm TRYING to make you jealous! Thanks for the compliments guys.
BEAUTIFUL rose, Bea. I have a small planter outside the side entrance that I am going to replant. Been thinking about roses..........
no, i'm jealous, my dh won't even wash dishes,or fix the coffee pot at night.lol sally
hahaha! My dh does household stuff, but he's pretty useless in the garden!
no comment ! sally
fauna4flora..you can never go wrong with roses.. All they need is is sun , water and fertilizer and of course some TLC... I say..go for a rose for your planter.
my gardenias are starting to bloom. brought three into the house and put them in a dish under the ceiling fan. ooooh, i love that scent. sally
I think I'm probably the only scent fancier that has issues w/growing Roses. I only had the one - God bless her - she'd bloom plenty but I simply didn't have the patience to deal with all the "issues" (probably mine and not the plants).
Sally - I should've thought to have clipped off some of my Gardenia blooms but it's only her 2nd spring/summer and I was so delighted to see her covered in blooms I couldn't bare to snip any off. May rethink that tonight though...LOL
Bees and I are both loving the lavenders all in bloom now as well!!! Try to post of pic of them later. Here's my Trumpet Lily that I threatened to dig up this year if I didn't get any blooms...glad I was patient....these are beautiful and have a wonderful fragrance!!!
OOOH, that is pretty. Is that a tropical lily? I had a boss one time that had a sign on his office plant- it said, "Grow, dammnit!"
Digger- we do that too. We pick Gardenias and put them in a little dish on the bathroom counter.
Well, it's not that easy for us in S. FL, Bea. But there is a thread somewhere in the FL forum I think with a lot of great successes and varieties that work well here. I did some landscaping in Colorado one time for a summer job back in college (came over from FL to visit Dad), and that is the only time I ever planted roses! Besides, I already gave me DH the honey please look, so I better go ahead while I havet the approval!
now i have a gardenia bloom on the one in the back yard.it's going to end up in my pillow tonight.ummm, better than silk sheets. sally
Amen, Sally...amen!!!
F4F - nope it's hardy up here...thank goodness Plantfile entry: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57441/
Very purty!
