Lets try to discribe the sound a hummer makes for Margaret.
I think they sound like a person making a motor boat sound, by brrrrring their lips.
Great pictures. They do seem to be getting better than best.
The greatest thing I think about humming birds is when they come up near you and hover and look at you. Even if it is just for a second, the result is pure joy. Just out of nowhere, this little tiny being zooms in, looks at you and then zooms out at lighting speed. It is just a surprising delight.
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 4
That is pure joy cparts!
I always think they sound like a large heavy bee buzzing. I love the little chirping sound they make.
Thanks. It enhances the aural imagery. How gorgeous to have these delightful little birds coming up close to inspect you. Lucky, lucky people.
They are a delight Margaret and Cparts and Pelle described their sound and behavior to a T!! I was trying to take pictures last night using the flash but they were all washed out...boo hoo! I need to change my camera settings!! Here is one though that isn't too bad...this little guy was not the least bit intimidated by my being there.
Thanks, dellrose. Very special.
Well! Don't stick your tongue out at ME, mister! I was merely wondering how to ID birds of your species. You know, Dave's Papa has a broken toe to ID him!
Margaret, it's a pleasure to share them with you. And I agree with Pelle, for the buzzing sound and the sweet little chirping sound they make. And as Cparts it's fun to see them move around so fast, and and hovering close to us, and looking at us. Love it also when they chase each other around.
This one is cleaning his beak, on the branch. This one is far, but it's better then the one I zoomed in.
Thanks you for the wonderful images and sounds. My dream used to be to see the Brooklyn Bridge. Now it's to see Hummingbirds, Bluebirds, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Orioles, Wood Ducks, Grouse and so many other wondeful birds AND Snapping Turtles!
Nice pics burn and nanny! I just had a male at my feeder.
I think if you watch them often, you can tell them apart. Each have different habits as well as slightly different markings. It sure sounds strange to others though. LOL
nanny, Next pic you have would you like to start the next thread?
