Nice looking hummer Rose.
They usually slow down, coming to the feeder , when flower comes in bloom.

This is where he usually position himself in the front yard for guard duty. And the crabapple tree.

dellrose, I've run out of superlatives. I'm going to have to start repeating myself. They are exquisite. Likewise, Burn. Keep 'em coming.

Great pictures. I really enjoy them.

I was making dinner last night and a hummer was hovering looking in the window at me. It would have made a great picture, but I didn't think he would stay that long for me to get the camera. He did hover for about a minute. Maybe a reflection on the glass.

Very nice pics burn and Rose!

Still no new hummers here. I keep changing the water but nuthin. Maybe when things start blooming. In the HB bed I have columbine in bloom and the hanging plant. Plus a bachelor button just for color.

I'm very sad!

boo hoo

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone...

Burn, I wish I could catch mine standing guard...I did when they first showed up but I think this is a different batch. I love those guard duty pics!

Mrs. Ed...perhaps they are nesting in your yard and eating elsewhere. Keep your chin up as you will surely spot one soon! :0)

I agree...very pretty Burn!

All of a sudden I had about 20 Hummers buzzing and eating from the various feeders! We've had a few pair all along but I don't know what happened...maybe the stormy weather we've been having? Sure was fun to watch them and wonder if they will be back in the morning.

Here is a pic I took the other day of one of the males.

Wonderful, dellrose and burn. What are the blooms? Are they crabapple blooms?

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

20 at once!?! Is that a swarm?

How cool is that?

Marlton, NJ

I had a hummer come up to the feeder the other day and saw a number of them flying around.

I thought I spotted a familar sight the other night just as it was getting dark. It was confirmed this morning, despite it being dark and pouring down rain...Our Ed is back!

He seem to enjoy the rain very much Nanny. Sweet!!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I think he was... he kept flying away and coming back...which is what Ed always did last year!

Again this is this morning in the dark & rain through the window!

The "swarm" of Hummingbirds were back again today...I took some pics in the morning light. We were gone all day but they were here this evening as well...close to 20 again. I noticed some of the feeders would have as many as 4 males at one feeder which leads me to believe that these are families as it appears some of them are smaller. I am new to this so I must research what the heck is going on! I must run to town tomorrow to get sugar...LOL!

Here is a female,

Beautiful pics Rose!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

WOW Rose, did you ever think that it could get better???

Let the hand feeding begin!

Nanny, I missed something… how do you know it is Ed?

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Nanny, Pelle and Mrs. Ed! Well I did some research and found out that you can't tell a male from a female when they are in the juvie stage as they all look like females. But I did learn that the males will eat together as long as there isn't a female around that they are not competing for...still a lot to learn here!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I don't 100%, but from looks and behavior and I simply choose to believe it is!

PERTH, Australia

dellrose, burn and nanny, you cannot begin to understand the pleasure viewing these images of the hummingbirds brings to me. You make them so real and even though they are part of your everyday liives, you are willing to share them with the hummer deprived. They are exquisite. Beautiful little things. I imagine the sound their wings make. dellrose, the only thing we have swams of is flies!
