A garden in progress...

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Me too Kass!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I got a chuckle when I saw the turtle's garden. Of course, it looks as gorgeous as all the rest. Anna just loved seeing the photo you posted of it.

I showed her what the front of your home looked liked and she fell in love. She's going to grill you for some rose information. Out of the several we have tried growing, only one seems to have survived all our attempts to grow them well.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh thanks everyone!!!!

Victor I want the small Japanese Maple for their garden... so it needs to be small... next year I plan to do a pond so I need the japanese maple to be part of the scenario....

On Candyce, I will be very happy to anwser any questions about roses... but I am no expert... but some other folks will be here and I am sure we all can help Anna... I trully hope we have tons of blooms... and I have buds.... tons of buds... I hope Westerland will be really opened by them... and Variegata di Bologna... oh such great roses...

Kassia, I don't think you ever told us the name of the stunning rose in this post:

I can't believe how much work you've done in just one year. And that turtle garden is just precious!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And the nail polish matches!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

yes, you are right! I neglected to say the name... Praire Sunrise... I had to go outside and look! short term memory problem... there are 2 more blooms to open... so gorgeous!!!

yeah, you could say I am inspired by nature! and now I only have to find some nail polish to match Disneyland rose...

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I think your short-term memory might be even worse than you thought, Kassia. That has to be Prairie Sunset, because Prairie Sunrise is a totally different set of colors. It's absolutely gorgeous, though, whatever you want to call it.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

lol... you are totally right about both... I have both planted side by side and I was looking at your thread and saw praire sunrise there...lol... what is my name again???

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sunrise, sunset...

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Victor, you bring tears to my eyes.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh Polly... do you have irises????

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

oh Kassia I am so proud of you. You didn't listen to any of those neighbors who said " what the heck are you doing". Look how beautiful everything looks. So pretty . Well done. Now all the neighbors probably long to take walks past your garden... How long did it take to get the turtle garden built?

The rose show came and went and it was not the same with out you. Well my dear you certainly have your hands full.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, ma'am!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

ok, I want to see your irises Polly!!!!

Thanks Steph!!!! I miss you... I need to call and have a long talk... so did you show your roses??? where are the pictures??? did you get blue ribbons??? are you coming to visit me???? well one neigbor has come and asked to walk around... well it was interesting!!!!

well the turtle garden was done in a couple of hours... because my new helper (a very sweet and supportive guy that is doing all the hard work for me) digg out all the grass.. so I just had so much fun... I am actually thinking of planting some of minis instead of having them in the pots... I will plant some mini dianthus sunday so it should add some finishing touches... I also plan to get a dwarf japanese maple and a pond next year... should look really cute with those!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Please Polly, we would like to see your irises. Kassia and I are both hooked. They look so good growing up between the roses!
Here is a photo of Batik from last year. This year there is not as much mottling....wierd, but still pretty.

Deb those are very cool looking irises... I think I have one similar to that one...

Victor thats really cool... very creative!!!!

oh Louise, the turtle garden was really a cute thing to do... I felt like a kid... like my mom said it was like when I was a kid playing with dolls... I use to spend so much time setting up their house and going around and getting things to decorate for the dolls... when she said that I started laughing ... my mom can read me... so funny ... I guess some habits will never die!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks all. It's an amazing iris. When it's about to open, it appears even darker. This is in too much sun, but you get a sense.

Most of my irises are beardless ones, and they haven't started yet. I have posted pictures of a few of the smaller ones I have. My tall bearded haven't started yet.
