Ohhhh...looks like Plumbago, but not the leaves. I love blue flowers. What is it?
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Pt.44 Visit with Friends
Those are my favorite, I've about 50 plants of them waiting to 'wave' in my garden..Blue Flax mine are, also have some red/maroon..with the slightest breeze they dance for you...will have to save the seeds for you all..
Shar, how those women must of been proud to see their work displayed in a gallery..it will be something for them to talk about for months to come..any photo's...
Wow Bev, off to the Dr's..you just can't leave it, eventually you'll take a fall and you won't be so lucky..bones are easy to break..the Quince is on the same color tone..will have to take photo, but if you had to cut yours down because of the size, I've put it in the wrong place...better read that tag a little closer...as for the fruit, there are at this time miniature little balls, thought perhaps that was the fruit...always fun to get a new plant you've not heard of before and do research..
Better get ready for work, talk to you all later...
Morning all,
Betty ..I love to buy a new plant I haven't had before and rush home to the computer tag in hand to do research on it.
Very pretty colouring on your quince
That Blue flax is lovely. I had some red flax years ago that sprung up from a packet of wildflower seeds I sprinkled at the back of the Garden. I didn't know what it was and I think I asked on the ID forum.
I'm going to see if I can find it.
Sharon..what a great thing you are doing for those talented ladies, and for such a good long period. All of their friends and family can come to admire their work.
Gorgeous colour on your Lady X rose..I am so looking forward to seeing the first bloom on my new Joseph's Coat rose. It looks calm outside today and sunny..but very cold..temp is 4c which is about 38f.
Betty that is pretty. I think mine was miss labled and was a wild rose, talk about thorny. I couldn't even prune it. Go to the doc the 28th. I had a lot of ear infections when I was a kid and then at 20 my then husband put the barrel of a shot gun on my left shoulder when I had my back turned and shot. I was deaf in this ear for 3 days!!!! Will talk later.
Good morning everyone. LOVE & HUGS BEV
Bev..when you fall backward..is it from a standing postion or when you are squatting to plant or weed?
Hope your Doctor can find the trouble and fix it. That incident with your "then" husband sounds scary.
I found the post where I asked what this lovely wildflower was..

No..the links didn't work
Trying again

Scarlet Flax
Stazz it is when I just barely squat a little to the left. I don't have any dizziness at all just go bakward. I don't even have time to try to catch myself and I still have good reflexes but this is something else. My girlfriens GD had to go for her ear and they said she had scar tissue behind the ear drum so maybe that is it. BEV
Carol/Bev, I have white and the red/maroon..probably my most favorite..you get a zillion seeds from them..they do at time grow around 3' ...mine won't open for some time..can be found in most nurseries/walmart stores...must be beautiful along the highway..
Carol, back a few years ago I was at a seminar in Kingston, on my way back along the roadway, not sure who had done it but for miles and miles there was wildflowers..such a pretty sight...
Sun is out but it's sooo cold..
Wow on the exhubby Bev...am sure inner ear infections can create falling..just be cautious..wouldn't want to break a hip or anything..
Talked to my youngest son Jeff this morning, said he and boys were busy at soccer games/lacross/birthday parties..gee by the time their schedule is in order they'll be 21 and driving themselves..will have to make an effort to drive to the city for a visit one weekend...
Sharon (DS) just reminded me that her rhubbarb leaves are getting bigger and wants me to come and doleaves..yuk..another trip tot he city..no fun when you travel to the city every day, hate spending weekends on the road... complain, complain right? lol
Someone sent me this, thought I'd share...
UNSEEN FRIENDS
Although you are a friend of mine
And e-mails we exchange
I would not know you on the street
And doesn't that seem strange?
You hold a place within my life
Unusual and unique
We share ideals and special dreams
And still we do not speak.
I picture what I think you are
Perhaps you picture me?
An intriguing game for both of us
For someone we cannot see.
So for this friendship we possess
We owe this mail a debt,
Perhaps the charm lies in the fact
That we have never met.

Welcome, Marion. It's interesting how lives are connected. DH grew up in London and I went to UWO (biology - like Carol's nephew except I had no desire to do a masters). It's also interesting that your brother is at the Dearness Home. My MIL used to (and still might) go in regularly to play the piano (and maybe the violin) for some of the residents there. DH works at the school here now so may be walking the same halls as your niece and her husband.
Welcome to kwanjin too. I recognize you from other threads and it's nice that you've joined us here. I enjoyed your pictures.
Well, here is a picture of mine. It was taken yesterday morning.
Hi Gilli,
Oh my! when will it end for you.??????
Isn't it a small world..especially since we all got connected on the net.
Betty, I will have a look for flax when I am out today.
Have a good day everyone.
Went on to search for the 'Japanese Quince' and indeed there are some that are fruit bearers..will have to look when I get home at the specific name of mine and it's growing habits....did find this info which had a few recipe's on it..better get it planted somewhere else so I can enjoy it..

Hello Gillian, OMG still snow...no fun..yuk...
Could you please d-mail me your tel. number please..must have misplaced it as I had both your home and cel. number listed...
Carol, you off shopping AGAIN for plants....lol...never enough plants/shrubs right...
Bernice told me she had quite a few plants for me, so as soon as I get home, into my scrubbies, I'm off..must go visiting to pick up my 'blue' hosta as well...
Jeannine...tonight's the night..what are the odds that Jason might win in 'Dancing with the Stars' I was hoping for either of the men winning, ONLY because I think the skater has an unfair advantage...my thoughts only...
Good morning, everyone. Had a date with my hubby last night. We went to dinner at Winger's then we went to Lowe's. He called from work and asked me out. I love it when he does that.
Thanks for the welcomes. It nice.
Blue flax...such a pretty flower but they don't last long enough.
I have an area right under the front window to fill in. I pulled out two Caryopteris. They attract too many bees by the walkway. I don't mind but I noticed a drop in people coming to the door when they're in bloom. ☺ I have lots of things to go in but I have a load of compost coming this weekend to go in first.
I found though that many re-seeded and I had them bowing in the wind most of the summer...know the red/maroon ones aren't as delicate nor are the white ones...
Loved those unexpected, meet me's by DH...oh well, those days are long gone....
Howdy gals - Have missed you all the past little bit. I had a wonderful weekend visiting my niece and also touring Longwood Gardens. I was fascinated with the gardens, so very lovely. l plan to return as soon as possible. I dropped out of the group a couple of hours early and hear and see through pictures that I missed some really lovely things.
I also would like to welcome Kwanjin and Marion. This is a very cool place to be. When I first came here a few months ago I was a bit intimidated by all the artsy crafty types who hang here. I don't have a lot of arts and crafts experience. I do love looking at the wonderful things that everyone on here shows us.
This is a thread that I try not to miss. Someone here always has something interesting going on.
Not much to say, I still have a lot of threads to read that I didn't get to while away for a few days. So off I go to catch up.
I hope that everyone is having a wonderful day.
Ruby
Ruby missed you as well...sorry you didn't get to do the entire garden..it was so nice everyone sharing their photo's..now I long to visit them...funny no wonder everyone LONGS to go the LONGwood Gardens...
I so have the travelling bug, want to jump in my car and take a few days off..maybe the next long weekend...
I've HAD IT!!!! yep, no more eating, had my last meal..did well just with light food over the weekend and very little at that, would have had more except Sailor ate it all..anyway, couldn't believe for 2 days I was my normal size...today soup and a salad and I'm so uncomfortable it's unbelievable...so liquids only!
Hello, hello, hello!
Betty I love your mat. If I had your talent, I won't have much spare time either!
Liz, I never had Dungenese crab before. Had some stone crab...the meat's very sweet. My favorite crab dish is Chilli Crab.
Sharron, love your story on the ladies of the gallery. When you think you have enough memories banked, you gave more for these ladies. Got your box out, and my Jazzy send your Jazz sumthin' too.
Gilli, here I am complaining of the heat...and poor you still hasn't discarded your winter clothes...praying hard here that you get to enjoy spring soon.
So true of that poem you found Betty, we are all just unseen friends.
Welcome Marion. Don't you love these fine ladies here. The nice thing about this place, is you can gab all you want, and no interruption!!!
Blessings galore, everyone.
~Jaye
Good Lord Betty, are you starving yourself??
Make sure you have enough nutrition in your body!! I tried the liquids diet once, just left me weak and make me ravenous for a whole cow!!
Hello. I have enjoyed this page/group for a while even thought I have only been reading postings before sending one. Having family in Canada and loving the place was the first eye catcher. Then Betty mentioned Penetang and old memories started flooding in! The wonderful year I spend going to UWO and living with my brother and SIL.
Finally after all these many years being able to tell about the alligator in the Biology department and the small part (illegal as it was) I had played in it being there. The world has definitely shrunk!! Almost as shocking as the 3 months I was in Palestine with my husband on a project assignment. We had gone to dinner and were waiting for the elevator (he was not me!) to go to our room when the doors opened, out stepped a man we hadn't seen in 20+ years. They had worked together and then went with different companies. Both were assigned to the same project for their respective companies.
Off to work in the yard--thank goodness it is shady as it is in the 90's and humid! Oh well, it is Florida.
Love the stories on here. Sharran, I hope you get some pictures of this "showing". That is just so cool and it always amazes me when I see some very talented people, who don't think their "stuff" is very good. We sometimes are our own worst critics I guess.
Doc..how right you are..I remember something that taught me a lesson years ago...
We were about 12 people doing a 'genesis - heat set oil insert for a jewelery cupboard, my girlfriend Diane was painting next to me, she's a wonderful talented painter...another friend beside me, anyway, we were painting an entire day, often I'd walk by their pieces admiring their work, IF ONLY I had their talent...so the more I'd check on everyone's piece the more I found fault with mine, the color was vibrant enough, my leaves not as interesting, on and on and on, thank goodness the painting day had ended..enough of that fiasco..so after about 3 trips to the car to bring out my supplies I entered the studio and all the girls were gabbing, there was a piece sitting near the door (I painted at the other end of the workshop) and I was admiring the piece, OMG it was gorgeous, the water drops looks real, her colors were vibrant, the edges so crystal clear, I went on and on about this piece, if only mine was half as nice I'd feel I'd have accomplished something when I noticed the girls were all laughing, they had moved my piece closer to the door for me..the piece I was admiring as long as I didn't know was mine, was a stunning piece of art...I'll have to take a photo tonight to show you...
LOL, I can believe it. Ladies, please check out this thread, this fellow DG needs some additional votes to win this contest and she's done a lovely job on this recycling bag. Thanks

Have to remember to take pics. Night all Hufgs BEV
Always something fun to read here. Busy, busy people, aren't you?
HI, SEED!!! Thanks! Yes, it a JM. Although I was told it was full sun, it doesn't do well in the heat. It gets very crispy in the hot sun. The two winters it's been through have burned to top off, so now it's 2 1/2 feet shorter than when it started.
I have a mini poster of Le Chat Noir Caberet. Isis posed for it.
Hi - Here is wishing everyone a wonderful day.
Ruby
Ruby what up girl, not sleeping or you are an early riser?
Had to come to the computer to see who won 'Dancing with the Stars' watched from 8 to 9 and then the actual show, managed to get to the last few minutes and boing, fell asleep..knew it would be her but I sure wanted Jason to win..oh well...
Want to respond to all your posts but think I'll wait till I arrive at work..that way it will give me something to do...lol
Morning all,
Kwanjin,
I found a Blue Flax at a place near me. This lady sells perennials from her home. She didn't have the Scarlet Flax..she showed me her own plant in her garden and said she just loves it. Thanks for peaking my interest. I also bought a Shooting Star (Dodecatheon meadia).. Every year I buy a few things from her. The best part is, her prices are reasonable..and no tax.
At another garden place I bought another Japanese Painted fern..as I can't see any growth on the one I have had for years in my hosta garden.
I found this plant too..no name on it..cleark didn't know the name so I brought it home and posted it on our Plant Identification forum. Boy the people who follow that thread are so fast. Two peole ID'ed it right away.
Here it is..interesting colouring. In doing research it seems it may be more of a houseplant..so I will keep it in a pot on the deck.
Gynura Purple Passion or Purple velvet Plant

Brrrr 38 degrees as I entered the city this morning..left early, did some shopping at Walmart in Barrie and got in at 8:30am..rained most of the way in but they are calling for a nice weekend, let's hope..
Liz, went back and read the ticket on the Quince and it did say you could eat (not raw) the fruit so might try one of the recipe's listed in the 'quince' thread.. Liz, it's just not like you to not to be finishing project, get going girl want to see that light house completed...has DH returned to work Liz or is he still on leave because of his medical condition???
Carol bet that Purple Velvet Plant is gorgeous..must keep it indoors till the weekend, am sure you've the same weather as we have..was going to go and get those plants last night from Bernice but it was just tooo cold..classes tonight so will have to wait till the weekend..am hoping that Canadian Tire has the little cafe sets on sale this weekend..had one at my other home, but it just didn't make the move..now that I have the front deck matt done, want a cafe set and put up the candle chandelier I bought not long ago at garage sale..I'm planning a lot of outdoor projects this weekend to make up for the bad weather last and the playing lazy on the couch..lol Sounds as though the private plant 'seller' has really good prices..I bought my Scarlet Flax in seed form I believe at WalMart or Canadian Tire..in no time it was up..doesn't seem to seed itself as much as the Blue Flax nor does the white..
I'm almost tempted on Friday to go to Bradford Nurseries outside of Barrie, will be driving in myself so might be a good opportunity..only thing is much leave most of my cash at home if I go..
Judy, it's long weekend time for you all this weekend isn't it? Will your sister be staying till then and are you going to the cottage? Now what is your secret about DD, you aren't going to tell us she got engaged are you?
Kwanjin, Le Chat Noir - belongs in my little french cafe I have off the kitchen! Adorable kitty..
Ruby, you back in bed now for the morning?
Bought a painting book this morning at Walmart, had a few nice patterns in it, should go look at the pictures..lol..throw away the instructions and just paint what I see..might just take some of my painting out here and pass part of the day..lots of appts. but no work for me...
betty, no dh is back at work but he is feeling tired alot but that is part of his illness, nothing we can do for that.
the trucking industry is kind of slow right now so he's not working so much, so he does have alot of time on his hands to think up projects lol drug me to the leather shop last night oh my what a imagination he has.. but i cant say anything because (not you betty) someone is being very snoopy and trying to trick me but im swore to slience.... no names mentioned lol guess i'll be getting a nasty text soon lol
Starzz,
The Purple Passion plant will keep it's intense color if you keep it in a bright light.
You can propagate it by taking a cutting of a branch tip and putting it in a glass of water.
It roots easily.
Do not overwater. Look out for Whitefly and Mealy Bugs! Whitefly always "find" plants that have hairy leaves.....
If you allow it to grow out, the stems are kind of stiff. They do not droop down. That is when you can take the cuttings....
Gita
Carol,
I gotta tell you, that Purple Passion sure brought back a lot of memories. I had one when I lived in louisville and it moved here with me. I kept it in the bedroom on a nightstand where it got early morning sun during the winter. Somehow the thing started growing, and stretched all the way across the headboard to Bob's side of the bed. One Saturday morning I was already up and heard Bob grumbling as he came into the kitchen. Seems the purple passion had become dislodged from the top of the headboard and had fallen down on him. Woke him up pretty fast and he said: "Either that animal that grows across the headboard gets moved, or I get moved."
Needless to say, it was moved, and cut back and propagated, then all put in a larger pot and kept in the den from then on.
Eventually it really outgrew itself again, and I shared it with every neighbor and teacher that I taught with. Over the years it grew, and I shared until the time came that it got some kind of disease....old age maybe. I was afraid it would spread to others, so I gave it a nice burial and have not had it since.
But still I love it, and now that you mention it, I might try to find another one.
Sure did bring back a fun memory.
Thanks..
Later, ladies.
