Thanks for putting up with me ^_^ ~Brenda

Well if you insist Gail ... LOL Here are a few more pictures .... it was such an adventure. My daughter had to force me to go, she had been a few years back with her husband and knew it would be fabulous.

Me, I wanted to stay home and play plants! But now I am so glad that I went and had the experience and saw the beauty of it all.

This is the very old foundation of a huge barn. Just this past fall there were forest fires that burned the barn and the original homestead house to the ground! I would loved to have seen them still standing as my daughter had on her first trip back there....

A bridge that we walked across with the raging river below, much nicer than those cable cars!

My grand daughter would have played all day on this old tractor, left foreground......

edited to say you can see the results of the fire that swept through last year all around, so sad, but natures way back here......

Brenda: So glad you had a wonderful time on your trip with your daughter and granddaughter! What pretty girls ... all three of you! You sure can tell you are family ... you all look alike!

Oh I love that scenery! Having lived in flat land areas all my life I really love mountains! I get scared to death if the cliff is on my side of the car when we are driving along mountainous roads but I love the serenity and beauty!

Now ... that cable car thing ... I would have to really "think" about that! I have a fear of heights and it sure looks a bit rickety to me ... nothing to hold on to (as if that would help, LOL!).

Your granddaughter is absolutely adorable ... look at that smile! She looks like one happy baby!

Oh, I love H. cv joy ... I saw your photo on the hoya thead. That is really one of the prettiest hoya blooms I've seen!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Lin, if I would have had a choice I don't think I ever would have gotten on that cable car the first time! But there was no choice....the plane could not land on the side of the river where the cabin was due to heavy rainfall the night before. So the plane set us down on a bigger grassy spot on the opposite side of the river and the only way to get to the cabin (with the beds and the food etc!) was across the water!!!

Once I had done it and survived (although frightened out of my wits the first time!!) I then willing did it again in order to take that fabulous hike to the old homestead .......

..........another favorite picture of Saige, laughing as her mom tries to make her look funny putting something on her nose.....LOL My daughter is 31 and you'd never believe it, she has such a baby face!! ^_^

Brenda,
What beautiful girls you have there.... Looks like you had so much fun. I love going to the mountains. Most people where I live love to go to the beach... No me I grew up with the ocean not to far from where we lived... We go to a bed and breakfast and then we go horse back riding into the mountains... Glad to have you back safe and sound...
Hugs,
Susan

Oh, Brenda! I love all your pics and the scenery. It is so flat and ugly down here. I lived in the mountains of New Mexico when the kids were growing up and I do so miss the mountains. I really have to tell myself all the time to "Bloom where you are planted, Gail"......

I thought the dogs had chewed up this hibiscus tree but I finally got a bloom, so maybe she will live......

Thanks Susan!! I am so glad your strep plants arrived promptly on Saturday!! They looked like they traveled beautifully too, even a bloom stalk on one of them! Wasn't Gary's packing just awesome on those plants??

I love hibiscus's but they don't love my elevation! You can grow so many beautiful things there Gail!

These are the mini violets I grew from seed and one has opened up with a fantasy bloom on it, so cute.

Brenda, you just taught me something new. I had no idea one could grow african violets from seed. You are a patient soul. Those are so cute, I agree!

I would be so scared to cross with a baby! They should have life jackets for little ones. I enjoyed all the pictures!

(Zone 1)

Brenda, I would never have believed your daughter is 31 ... she looks about 18 or 19! But, you look really, really young too ... I would have never guessed you had a child that age! Must be in the genes!

Those little AV's are adorable! Wow, I am in awe ... grown from seed?! That fantasy bloom is really nice and I love the pink av to the left of it too!

Gail, what's the name of that Hibiscus? Love it ... looks like one of those dinner plate hib's ... really huge flower!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I will ask the hibiscus people and they will know. I bought it locally at a nursery.

I also have to go to the orchid forum and see if anyone knows the names of the orchids I found right here this afternoon at our Taft nursery. (I also got a giant big ric rac that will be red she said in a hanging basket)

I also got an epi (forgotten the name) but it is the bright bright red one. It is just in a 4" pot but she said it should bloom this summer as it is not a new one.

This is a 5 year old cattelya (sp?) which is the finest yellow and lime green with a lot of fragrance.

This orchid (starts with a den............) is the biggest plant I have ever seen and the blooms are so long they are hanging over a stand. The lady had no names for either orchid (LOL)

Gail, I love that Catt! Really pretty soft color ... and it's fragrant? It looks similar to a Better Grow Orchid that is sold at Home Depot ... comes bare root in a plastic bag. I can't remember the name. I have not had a Cattleya bloom yet.

I love that Dendrobium too ... that color is awesome!

South, TX

Those Orchids are great! We love the frangrant ones!

We went to Turners and Gill's this weekend.$$$ Been BUSY planting for summer, impatiens are tired of the heat already. I plant lot of pentas. They do well in all weather, hot or cool, sun or shade. I appreciate that!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I took a few pics today of new sinningia blooms. (yes, Sally, pentas do very well here)

Kimskreations, where are you?

I sold the two big Silverglade Oyster african violets at the sale. Kept the small one and she is showing her first blooms. They will get different and double in time. (from Brenda's plant by leaf)

Gail.. Love that country shortcake and all the rest of course!
Hope you all had a Great Holiday Weekend..we had friends over for a bbq last night and spent the entire day today at the lake so I am now more tired than if I would have worked all day in the yard..lol..can't take that much excitement anymore.....

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

WOW, where to start?

Brenda, it looks like you had a TERRIFIC family weekend! Your daughter, you and your granddaughter are SOOO beautiful. You all look so much alike and look so young :) What a great time that must have been. Thank you for sharing your pictures.

Gail, you are really going to town on those sinningias! They are all SO cute! I can't believe how small they are and blooming too! Merry Christmas is going to be so pretty when it opens.

We had a lay low kind of weekend. My brother and dad came over for a BBQ Sunday night. It was fun. Played over 14 games of cribbage with hubby yesterday since both kids weren't home. It was nice just hanging out hubby and I. A quiet weekend all in all but nice. Watered all the gardens etc. Just kind of puttered :)

Sure hope this week goes by quick, already looking forward to the weekend again *lol*

Time to start a new thread, we are up over 200 posts already :) Should we try to make it to June? *lol*

oh gail, those sinningia seed i sent you are so pretty, i don't remember what cross i did for the purple one,i have quite a few that have not bloomed yet, can't wait to see them. do you dome all of yours? or are they just out in the open? did you say you use the soil from volkmans?
bonnie

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Bonnie, the big purple with yellow throats came from your cross of Mark Twain x Ozark Fireworks. Isn't she a beauty? I hadn't started using the wicking soil from Volkmann's on these seeds. I was using a mix of 1/2 peat moss and 1/2 perlite on these and they are still in their solo cups they were started in. I am scared to put them in the Wicking mix from Volkman's but will try soon. I leave all my sinningias out on permanest trays wicking them in the open. However, these I grew from seed are still sitting on a capillary mat from when I started the seed.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I am glad you had a good time Brenda. Your pictures and stories about the trip however sent me to bed with a sick stomach and a headache. I am terrified of flying, water, heights and anything that doesn't let me have my feet firmly plantedon a flat surface. If I misspelled anything it is most likely because of the swimming head.

(Zone 1)

I found this Columnea blooming this morning. Can't remember the name of it though.

Beautiful, Lin! Looks like 'Carnival'! ^_^

Yikes, that is absolutely beautiful, Lin! I have never seen one with yellow blooms and the blooms look big, too.

(Zone 1)

Yes ... Carnival it is! I had forgotten the name.

Kim: If you could really see that deck ... it is a mess! Plants, leaves, pots, soil everywhere! After I get the deck cleaned I will post a couple of pic's.

(Zone 1)

Gail: This is a plant you gave me last year. Tecoma Sans/ "Yellow Elder" ... blooming again. The orange flowered one you gave me died before I could ever see the bloom but this one is doing well.

So glad your yellow one lived. They love our weather, don't they? In fact, they turn into trees if we trim them that way here.

Lin, a man from Belgium and Eclipse both said the name of that hibiscus I posted is called 'Chocolate High'.
