Cottage Garden Seed Swap & Chat #12

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

me too :)

LeBug, I just planted some Maltese cross seedlings today behind the English wallflowers and in front of PamSue's coral poppies...did you say they get tall...how tall? I may have to move them, I don't want them to block the poppies if they grow.

I'm exhausted, spent most of the day watering and planting. I'm down to approx 24 flats left and then I'm finally finished!!!!!!!!! I'll post pictures of my combo plantings after they get more established and blooming. I have to say that I really love how the lilac petunias look with ornamental oregano :)

our Easter lilies and gardenia are blooming and look pretty with the feverfew

Glad I am not the only one with little plants!

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

Lea, I was just talking about some fertilizer with a higher bloom number. You don't have to fertilize it, tho. When it decides to take off, it will bloom. : )

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I'm glad Suzy is okay, I was hoping she was just busy.
Very pretty picture wind.
I think I finally figured out what those flowers are. http://www.swallowtailgardenseeds.com/perennials/silene.html
Hardyplants has seeds too. It says they are biennial so I can start those soon and plant in fall, right?

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Wind I have a busy day tomorrow with running shoot me a dmail sometime tomorrow and I'll go out and measure them for you. I planted some lilac petunias in my moon garden and I think they are going to work out great, they have a little glow to them in the evenings, I think I'll collect seeds from this one I really like it, thanks tunik :) That's a very pretty picture of your flowers wind, I've only planted one feverfew so far but I think I'll plant a couple more, I really like the flowers on them!

Oh ok Lucy thought maybe there was a certain thing to make them bloom lol

Get this, a lady stopped and asked me if she could take some pictures of my flowers in my front yard today, that made me feel good lol I guess all this hard work is worth it lol All I have blooming out there right now are veronica and stella daylilies lol Wait until she sees the rest of them lol

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Morning all!

Meredith, you can sow them now. With a bit of luck they'll flower in late autumn allready. Silenes tend to be awfully fast! And if you pinch out the faded flowers they may bloom again next year!

LeBug, glad you like the petunia's. You've been glowing over them for a while so make us happy too with a picture!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thank you Tuink, : ) I just ordered them so we'll see how long it takes to get them. I ended up ordering them from Dianeseeds because I always get seeds fast from there. Where specialty perennials tends to take 3 weeks, I need them sooner if I want to get them started this year.

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I have a few Silenes 'jack flash' and they are taking forever to grow! I transplanted them around the first of May and they are still soo small!

Tunik, I have no camera right now :(

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

LeBug,
Perennial silenes are much slower than the (bi)annual ones.....
My Silene maritima Weisskehlchen took two years before it started to flower!

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks Tunik, I was really hoping to see a bloom this year, oh well lol You're up late aren't you?

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Not really, it's 15.58 hrs. right now. Time to leave the office and go to the allotments!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Okay - I'll bite. What are "the allotments?"

Hi

I just posted the thread for the September Fantasy Seed Swap

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/867393/

I hope some of you join up ^_^

Brownstown, IN(Zone 5b)

Just checked the Swallowtail Seeds site. Do they run a sale. Need to go back as they have lots of stuffl

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I like Swallowtail, they needed to change their seeds I think I've gotten about everyone of them thru the years lol I'll go check them out but don't want anymore seeds LOL I'm not even sure if I will get in any swaps for next fall lol I wonder why I have so many!!!! 8)

I bought a couple of plants today somebody slap me! I'm a plantaholic for sure and a glutten for punnishment! 'Tizzy' Gaillardia Commotion, 'Hermann's Pride' Lamiastrum galeobdolon and red petunias I'm not a petunia person persay I just wanted more red in my garden lol Has anyone heard of Tizzy? It sure is pretty 16.99 worth LOL Fairy I saw Mocha the coral bell there and it was the same price and just knew you were going to have one in your coop this fall so I didn't get it but you know what, it doesn't impress me as much as I thought it would, so don't bother if you do it just for me I think palace purple will do the job in the shade just as well :)

Wind, I saw a couple of those gold bugs, potato bugs?, on some morning glories that reseeded the other day, gold is up wonder if we could sell them lol I measured the maltese cross it's 38" tall, see I didn't forget :)

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

hi everyone :)
thanks LeBug....38" is about what I thought they would be so I'll keep them where they are, especially since they seem to like their spot. As for your feverfew, it should spread into a nice patch for you, it pops up all over for me. Were the lilac petunia seeds from Tuink? I love them too and will also collect some seed from them. My petunia blues are slowly but surely growing and hopefully will bud soon.

One of my summer showers geraniums finally bloomed today!!!!! It is alot more fuchsia pink then I expected! This one was in a pot in the sun...my others in 3 hanging baskets are not too happy. I think they need more sun and less water, time will tell.

Meredith, I was thinking of you when I was in HD the other day; they had a plant that was a dianthus, which looked like your photo. I should have written the name down ~ I forget what it was called. It was the same exact color and bloom clusters in your photo, but I see you found the id ~ I like the swallowtail site :)))

Seandor I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the seed tunnel here and don't think I need a single seed more....in fact I'm walking past ripe seeds and not even collecting them!!!....my mind is still in the planting mode I guess...but I'll check out your link for sure...and I'll get my baggies out and start collecting some seeds...good luck with it :)

this is another thing that self sows all over the place the red amaranth ~ they are easy to pull out though. The green seedlings with the red stems are the red burgundy okra.

Does anybody have a guess as to whether or not Salvia 'Caradonna' will come true from seed? I just harvested a bunch of seed from my 2 big clumps... Got to get back out to that bed and see from getting seed from the Penstemon smallii, too!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Wind that lilac petunia and ornamental oregano look gorgeous together! It's funny you should say you saw a Dianthus that looked just like that at hd because I picked up a few dianthus that haven't bloomed yet but the picture looked like the right color, so we probably saw the same one. Yes I too am a plantaholic ; ) I also bought a Centranthus ruber because of trying to figure out what those pink flowers were. Oh and a Penstemon pinifolius. I also got three red flowered annuals and a container to put them in. I couldn't help it, I saw a hummingbird flying around them. Those blooms must have been pretty enticing for the little guy to zoom up and down the walkways around all those Sat morning nursery shoppers. : ) Trying to figure out what those were ended up causing me to buy 3 different plants! LOL
Tomorrow I'm going to get a picture of my container, even though there wasn't a whole lot of design involved. I bought the three reddest flowers I saw the hummer near and made them fit in the pot together.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi Everybody!!! I have been so busy, and TIRED!, that I have been going to bed early without even logging on to DG, but Lea called and said you were all worried. No floods here...well, we got 11 inches of rain in 3 days, and the front yard (all grass) was flooded BIG TIME, but no property damage, and it happens in big rains but drains real fast; it drains in under 4 or 5 hours.

The garden is a mess...Cottage doesn't even cover it. Imagine plants on top of plants with lilies coming up from everywhere and you have the idea. I'm going to flip through the posts real quick and see if there is anything directed to me...I saw some real pretty pics already.

Here is the new thread..........
