I'm so sorry that I forgot to say something about the tomato poisoning. It seems so distant, yet it is such a reality. Hope you are feeling better.

Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - Frostfree?
Gloria - so sorry to hear you were so affected by the tomato poisoning, but happy you are doing better. That is a long time to be so sick!
Weeze - Dex looks good and still has my prayers!! You too!
Its hard to come to terms with the fact that a tomato can be life threatening. I am happy to be spending less time in the bathroom!
Maypop: Sounds like you have summer vegetable gardening down!
Ive not seen the board game mancala. Are Christmas beans like cranberry beans, with the red markings?
I hope Dex is coming along fine.
Glad to hear you're feeling better Gloria.
Yes. On the news I heard there were only 300 some reported cases of tomato poisonings involving salmonella.
I guess most people like me do not report.
Perhaps they're too "indisposed" to report anything, Gloria!
For sure. Someone said, Aren't you going to the doctor?
I said I didn't think I could get away from the bathroom long enough to sit for an hour in the doctor's office.
Did I hear that the tomatoes were from Mexico?
The salmonella poisonings have been going on since January so there are several different batches involved and the problem is on-going.
The tomatoes I ate were from Texas. FreshPoint, Inc. 1390 Enclave Parkway, Houston, TX77077-2099.
That address is on the label of the 4-pack shrink wrap package.
Thanks for the info Gloria, I hope you are totally mended after your two weeks of suffering.
I just bought 4 tomato plants. Looks like I need to go to the beginners veggie threads....
Gloria, glad your feeling better. You should report it now, though since your not otherwise occupied.
The fever is gone but the bathroom trips are still more frequent than Id like.
I hope everyone is able to avoid this.
Nanegoat.
What you do with tomato plants and bury them quite deep in a sunny well drained spot. The plant will form roots all along the stem so you will have a good stout plant.
If the plants are indeterminant you will need stakes or scaffold or fencing so they can climb. The determinant plants don't need this.
You can plant some squash at the base of the plants to act as a living mulch. (Like zuchini or patty pan or yellow summer squash.) The squash are very leafy and will shade the soil and hold in moisture so you will have to water less.
flowerjen. Oh. Yes I am occupied. There is all the stuff I didn't do while I was in the bathroom!
Thanks Gloria! I've done all the above except the squash. Gotta find seeds in the morning....
Hey - Did you hear about Tim Russert? What a loss!!
Good luck finding seeds. Walmart here has sent all theirs back.
Apparently Tim Russert even posted a news story earlier today.
He didn't look well, but then a lot of people don't.
Letterman had a joke last night that basically said the healthies thing in a BLT sandwich is the bacon.
Nancy
I am in complete shock over the sudden passing of Tim Russert. Political commentary just won't be the same. He will be missed.
I agree Candyce. So sad. And ironic that a man who loved his Dad so much, and was such a good family man, should die on this weekend.
Brokaw is hosting a special "Meet the Press" tomorrow to commemorate Tim.
Dave:
I was wondering who was going to host tomorrow's show. I'll have to make an appointment with myself to be sure and watch it. Pass the tissues, please.
What a loss! I really liked him. And the sudden nature of it really makes you think!
For those that are following the prickley cactus, I counted 100 flower buds, nothing open yet, will keep you posted! And yes the pasing of Tim is so sad and sudden, he was so young!!!! Clemen
Oh Clemen!
How exciting for you!
Victor, is it time to roll this one over yet?
Yeah I agree! Clem
Roll over Beethovan ... oops! I mean, Victor!
100 flower buds!!! How very exciting, Clemen!! Please show us when they open!!
I'll sure will guys, and i see more buds forming, I have never seen this baby done this! I hope to capture the cactus when all buds are in bloom, although, that will be difficult! they close at night. open during the day! Clemen
Is anyone else stuck in te same weather patern for this week as we are? Overnight rains, afternoon T-storms, hot and muggy sunshine in the afternoon. They say this will keep up like this all week long.
Yep. Same here. 95 degrees every day. Heat Index in the 100s.
Ugh!
I hate the 'wet' heat days!!
drippy!
Simply a gorgeous morning after last night and the storms. Sunny, blue skies, 72. Time to appreciate all the beauty and rip out more invasives - they're like guests who should have stayed home!
yeah. stayed home in China!
I am battling china berry trees, privet, wisteria, wild grape, and wild clematis. I think all of these are Chinese.
Gloria..me too, stayed home in China that is! LOL
LOL!!!
Yes love it..even worked for them for 6 years....they loved me! LOL
I love Chinese food. I love chinese landscaping. I love some chinese plants - like tree peonies. but tree peonies is not what 's coming up in my garden!
just wisteria, chinaberries, and wild clematis.
