Raining lightly here now too. have to plant a few things though - two clems and some hellebores I just received. Also have to pot up to others - confed jasmine and a lorapetalum.
Pirl, that is exactly it. It's the state requirements coupled with the teachers' union contract.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 20
I remember those days when the kids would have 1/2 of a 1/2 day in Kgtn. It was crazy when they'd squeeze the afternoon kids in for some ridiculous session. What used to make my younger son angry was during the winter and there'd be a two hour delay with AM Kgtn. being cancelled. Since he was in the AM class, he was afraid that the PM kids would get ahead of him with their work! He's always been like that, too.
I went to Catholic school... we didn't have days off, (good prep for the 'real' world).
- sun poking through now. ☺
Same here, WC. And school would only close in a true blizzard. In the burbs, two inches and the kids are home!
Even the threat of snow early in the season will close schools up here. I'm so glad mine are done!
Just finished up a fairly heavy rain. DH is gardening his way...with a chain saw, that is...and thinning out some spindly little trees.
This cool weather has had some benefits. A few weeks ago I posted a picture of my green garden with those green and white viridiflora tulips? Those tulips are STILL in full bloom. A couple of days of sun and heat will certainly blast them, but nearly a month for some tulips? It feels like England around here. No wonder they have such gardens over there.
It actually hasn't been a bad day at all, the sun came out, it is cool, but nice for gardening.
We are having the big PGA Golf tounament in town. How would you like to play in rain and wind like this.
Someone offered DH 2 free tickets, but I'm going away Saturday so he turned them down...
Capricious weather for a third day in a row. I never saw so many sun showers in a short period in my life. Rain and gusty wind, followed by sun and a nice breeze - over and over. Crazy!
I've been looking for rainbows the past few days!
Took the shot 15 min ago - you still might have a chance! ☺
Bright sun here now.
Our new tulip a pink called 'Gander's Fantasy' is lasting a long time. That seems to be the case in the area this yr. At the same time drizzle & plain damp cold is messing up the iris flowers & their pollen so I can't get takes, very discouraging.
Long day spent out doing things. The bonus was seeing a big beautiful rainbow just before we arrived home tonight. Sorry, no camera = no picture. The good news is I need a root canal sometime soon. Yippee.
Great shot, Pirl! I like the bus idea too.
Great looking kids, Arlene!
Exceptionally cool rainbow pirl! ☺
Sorry Lynn & WC--root canals! Not good. The weather isn't, either! Dropped the dogs off at "camp"--the kennel we use in Goshen--it was 4:30, & 48 degrees--and showery--my DH is coughing again, & we leave for NH tomorrow morn. I'm packing lots of warm clothes & cough syrup! Stopped by the farm after dropping off the pooches, & saw Grant & sisters--all are fine--Grant seemed a little less fussy. And even though I taught many years, folks, some of the policies are ridiculous---but remember, they are not set by the teachers, but by the state & local boards of ed. And if you want to earn your money, try teaching 125 7th graders science---or anything!
Have a great trip, Robin!
ROBIN, that age - from 7th-8th has to be one of the hardest to teach. It takes someone special to both handle and understand them. I like the 5th-6th grade years just before the hormones hit! And you're right about how the policies are set.
Great news about Grant! He'll be in 7th grade before you know it!
I'm putting the root canal off for a while or until it becomes painful. He has to do the procedure through a crown. I'm not looking forward to this.
Robin, ... I'd rather try crocodile wrestling! ☺

Gorgeous shot, Victor! The reward after such an unsettled day. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Yes, I think it's the new, nicer weather pattern moving in.
beautiful Victor
Thank you.
Great window! Armstrong? ☺
Pirl, the kids look great.
That is such a sweet age. They avoid you for years and finally get dressed up in grownup clothes, a parent can forgive anything when they look so sweet.
Great shot, Victor.
Thanks to all for the compliments. Megan is also on the Principal's "high" honor roll, came in #1 in a talent show in high school, #1 for film documentary as judged by the NY Times, and is up for an acting award for her part in Hamlet. She (following the lead of her mother and I) gets perfect attendance awards as well, She gets consistent marks of 100 in math and science. Aside from that she's a normal kid and sweet as can be.
She has a great future ahead of her.
The family must be so proud.
Very pretty, WC!
58.3, sunny, winds at 3 mph.
60, breezy and beautiful. WC - that was an open window!
Gorgeous clematis, WC!
Partly cloudy and 60° here right now, but rather windy still with the wind coming in NW at 17 MPH. The humidity is 49% with the dewpoint at 41°. The barometric pressure is 29.70 in. and steady right now.
They are calling for scattered showers during the overnight again. Monday will be GLORIOUS!!!!
Yes - I forgot to say that - very nice, WC. Which is it?
