50 here and steady rain. Still working on laundry but managed to sneak in about an hour of orchid time. Still too chilly up here to be doing much in the outdoor garden.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 20
Better than it was yesterday!
RAIN here all day. Ordered some more dahlias though :~)
Looks like about 1/2 inch so far. Messed up my plans, but I rarely curse the rain.
Cold, dark and rainy. Just what i wanted for my last day to re-pot seedlings before going to NYC till Sunday....
blah.
Sun poking through here.
It was more of a light mist for the four hours I was out planting the dahlias. As soon as I came inside the rain really came down. It calmed down but all afternoon we've had a wonderful long slow soak. I haven't ventured out to see how much fell.
Temp 48.9°, wind WNW 0.0, Baro 29.23↓. ☺
Steady rain here for 95% of the day, misty now. Cool w/ me, good for my lawn, newly transplanted dahlias & 7 new clematis plants! Weeee!
Patti tell DH that I am jealous since I have been trying to see a saw-whet owl for 10 years (I know their call).
50 degrees pretty much rain all day till about 7:30
I didn't see the owl either, but I will be looking or more liking listening hard for it from now on.
But, Boojum, why have you not taken to bed? Sleep, chicken soup and new iris blooms will make you well.
Love the Barred owl, but can't remember hearing one. This was one we saw in Fla this spring.
I was up too late last night reading. Then I did too much heavy stuff until the rains came so I am going to bed early tonight. My truck of dirt didn't show up, which annoys me though I doubt I would have gotten much of the placement of it done as my DH decided to play hockey rather then play in the dirt with me.
I did get some Rosa rugosa transplanted and some other things moved that were planted exactly where I decided that I needed a path. Then I dug out a little path to my new spot for a bench by the stream. Then I hauled down some more mulch to tidy it all up. It looks much better. I divided some ferns, astilbe and started planting some annuals. Foolishly, I started to empty the greenhouse but we will do most of it next week. I quit by 3:30 when the rains came in earnest. I now have a mess on the back porch.
No hummers came to visit and my new bird houses are still empty. A robin likes to sit on one and watch me dig up worms. But the thistle seed is being consumed at an alarming rate so the yard is full of potential occupants. Love the little twitter birds. Night all. Patti

Cool owl. 47 and clear.
52, very sunny, going to 62 with chance of thunderstorms after 2 PM. Time for me to get out and get planting.
Good morning to those of you still indoors!
It's nice and clear and sunny here this morning, even if it is a bit on the very chilly side.
It's 52° in my neighborhood with no wind to speak of.
Humidity: 66%
Dewpoint: 44°
Pressure: 29.40 in. and rising.
They are calling for more clouds to roll in later this morning and then to rain this afternoon. I'm happy for the rain, but I wish it would be an overnight rain like it was last week.

Today's Moon: full
Sun out at 6AM
Dark clouds rolled in at 8:00 and cold hasn't stopped.
Misty wet at times. Couldn't really call it rain 40% chance is expected so ittl just be cruddy forbeing out doors.
I still had time to remove some of the branches off the pine so I can plant a red rhody and a buddliea in a few weeks
It is sunny & 50's here now, BUT the forecast is for more showers this pm---enough, already! The yard needs mowing--no lawn service yet! My rhodies are starting to bloom, & I chose 3 to paint in my art class yester. Got the drawing almost done--hope the blossoms last til next Tues.! One shrub, a white with maroon blotch is fully in bloom now, but I'm cautious about painting white blossoms--very difficult. Many iris are budded---just waiting for the sun!
We have iris budding, too, Robin. I'm surprised, as this is a bit early for them in our neck of the woods.
Well, I was going to stay in bed today but I've been outside planting and putting up peony cages and speading mulch. I think I'll stop and take pics now. Weather is nice here but the clouds are moving in now.
75 here in western KY, first cool day we have had. I just moved my 3 ficus out to the deck.
No more tulips, iris have all bloomed out except for one and it is on it's last bloom, but the roses are going wild. AND, just for Pirl, my daylilies are in bud.
Spring blooms are still my favorites because they are a promise of what is to come, so I still love to look at yours.
sunny, breezy 64 degrees.
saw my first hummer yesterday, lots of bird activity yesterday in all the rain. I think I saw either a barn swallow or a bluebird, it flew away too fast but I could tell it was blue with a reddish chest(def not a blue jay). Spent about 2 hours trying to get a house sparrow away from the baby and momma chickadees in their bird house.
I am amazed at how agressive the littlest birds are.
House Wrens have built in the bird house I hung and Chickadees have tried to oust them but they held their ground.
The other attacking birds are nesting terns and nesting kingbirds. Bet those are nesting, too!
You are too close to their nests. They will just have to get over it.
That sounds like tree swallows to me. They behave this way whenever we get too close to their nest. Aggressive! I don't like that they compete with the bluebirds. The worst are the house wrens. They will peck holes or toss eggs of other species right out of the nesting box.
Nice shot, Jen. Another crazy weather day - nice, then storm, then nice again and repeat cycle...
Just started to cloudy up here and I hear thunder in the distance.
Fantastic day here. Went out at 9 AM expecting to be in by 2 and was too busy transplanting a rose when the rains, all 15 minutes, arrived. It felt wonderful to accomplish more than I'd planned. In the house at 6 PM, and ready to collapse now but it's all worth it. No bugs, no wasps, no flies, no problems.
Sounds like one of the ten best gardening days of the year for you, Pirl!
Yes! Probably the best so far.
COLD again
steady rain all night but a high of only 50 ish.
I'm planting the Martagons anyway.
50, winds at 7 mph, high of 60 expected but rain this afternoon.
47 and overcast. Have to plant a few things no matter what. My son's kindergarten, which is already only 1/2 day, has a half day! Out at 10:17 - how ridiculous is that?!
Maybe I could work for a 1/4 day, and get paid a full day?
Just to meet the state's requirement for the amount of days school was in session. It is insane.
That's so strange Victor. 1/2 day of a 1/2 day hardly seems worth the fuel for the teachers and kiddos to arrive at school!
My weather today is cloudy, with the temp at 45° and a bit damp and chilly due to yesterday's little rainstorm. The wind is W at 8 MPH and the humidity is at 68% with the dewpoint at 39°. The barometric pressure is 29.51 in. and rising.
We should stay mostly cloudy and breezy today, with again some showers in the afternoon or early evening. Tonight should bring partial clearing for us. Time will tell.
Light rain right now = a day of rest.
