Had to be critters. This is the third one - Shigitatsu sawa and Beni kawa were munched earlier.
Spring Blooms - Part 8
Bill (i'm a little slow at learning names), so if your yard and basement have the same amount of dirt---are you going to start planting the basement now??? Your wife may put you permanently on "the list" the Uki at work gets sun from about 9-10 am. and then again for another 3 or 4 hours from around 3-7 pm. It been interesting watching that tree over the years and keeping a "photo-log" of sorts of it. The amount of sun definitely affects the coloring, but something else plays a factor. Likely weather, but what part of that we're not sure. All other things constant, some years it undoubtably has more white and pink colorations to it. Other years it has been so dull that it looks like nothing more than different shades of green. I'm glad someone else has a "sick bay".
Voles eat or scratch the bark of trees??? I didn't know that. I have been blaming a stray cat for aniliating one of my favorite dogwood to the point that I don't think it's going to make it---but maybe it's a vole?? The stray cat has caught several and leaves them on the steps for praise, so I know that I have plenty of them. Is there a distincive mark? I bet I should just look that up.
Jo Ann, your Pots are going to be great!
Victor does critter = deer? or something else? sorry to hear about Omura---it's such a graceful tree.
Thnx redchick,we are expecting rain after Wed. and then for the next week.
Sun finally shown but the house is colder than out doors. I'll open doors equalize the temp.
Any guesses on the posts up the line?
Wow, for once i think I'll take the rain. No, I don't want yours or mine. Yesterday the high temp here was 59 deg., a couple of degrees cooler than norm, but by thursday the high is expected to be at 92 deg already!!! We had snow the second week of April and 92' by the 3rd week in May.... something is really bizarre! I admit, I'm a wimp and am spoiled by mild weather. Second thought, I think your rain looks good! Ya know, I'm just drawing a blank on the white thing. I should know what it is, it has naturalized in some places around here. I really like the black arrow... such texture and color:-p lol. Ummm... it sort of looks like an allium? but thats really just a long shot. The other thing that it sort of reminds me of, but I think it's a little early for, is a hardy amaryllis... and I also can't think of that at the moment either, so sorry, but I'm really not much help :-( I haven't had my coffee yet for the day.
Looks like Lily of the Valley, Jo Anne, though it's mixed in with the other stuff. Shelly - yes, I am guessing deer.
Very nice!! I went out earlier and looked in the Iris bed....good news is they are all growing. Bad news is there is only 1 tag I could read.
That's a big problem for me. Any label in the ground gets lost, kicked by the mowers during fall cleanup, etc. So I bought plastic tags that loop and hang on the plants, but they're no good for plants that die back to the ground.
Very pretty, Dyane! My new tree peony has withered away.
Did you make a wish before shooting the dandelion? Nice brunnera shot.
I've got a lot of dandelions in my beds. I'll get a better one of the brunnera - those flowers are smaller than a pencil eraser.
Al your Dandelion looks like he's waving - as in "hahaha - you'll be seeing more of me...".
I curse at mine & they curse back: tough customers.
Dandelions have a lot of street cred in the Pacific North West - some can be categorized as sub-shrubs. Yep - we grow 'em big.
polly.... your lilacs are beautiful and Huge! that tree in the foreground with the cream blooms..... is that a tree lilac ? (syringa reticulata) Or what might it be?
Al, love the dandy one. Was your wish that you never see another one of them? Mine would be!
Nice shots, Shelly - love the foamy. Polly - beautiful! It's been a great year for mine as well.
Polly your lilacs are lovely!! I can't wait for mine to finally bloom, it i'll be a few weeks yet.
Thanks.
Pixie, our lilacs are way ahead this year. I guess due to the hot spell we had in April.
redchic, the tree you asked about is a cherry. We have the tree lilac, but it blooms much later.
I have a tree lilac. It's about 5 years old. When could I expect blooms?
Beautiful pics everyone! Dyane, I love that peony.
huh, thats good to know. I've never seen a cherry with blooms quite like that. It's pretty.
I spoke too soon!! My tree lilac has buds on it! So does my kousa dogwood that I planted the same time as the tree lilac! Woo Hoo!!!
That's really cool. Guess the bizarre winter weather confused your plants too! Makes it sort of fun though when they're all blooming together. So, you had to know that this would just beg the question of.... do we get to see the dogwood? that way I can live "vicariously" through your pictures since mine are still a few weeks away from being open. I have cute, tiny green, buds right now on my kousa's
My tree lilacs don't bloom until early summer.
Let's see some pictures Harper!
redchic, I kind of lead you astray on the cherry. I guess it would actually be considered a chokecherry. Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red'. Definitely not your average cherry blossom.
ok, ok, that makes much more sense :-p I kept looking at that picture and seeing blooms like an english laurel and leaves that looked somewhat like something I should know, and just couldn't come up with it. I should've known that one though!!! Around here choke cherries tend to not be as tall as that unless they are out in the wild.
There are chokecherry trees, and chokecherry bushes. This one is about 30 feet tall. The leaves emerge green and turn purple and stay purple the rest of the year. It's lovely for the leaf color. I would not recommend it to anyone that does not have the patience to cut off suckers.
Okay, okay! Heading out with the camera now.
