Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

It is no big deal if you wick with 2 strings of the number 18.............not a big deal at all....................

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi Susan,

No joke,My Mom had a hemmorage in the eye and that lead to a detached retina. The eye doctors told her not to lift anything heavy,it would cause more damage.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

hello, Jan! I have another of your plants trying to open up.................I can probably post a picture by Sunday; They are big giant yellow buds and almost open.
Where did you get all that seed which has produced the most exotic blooms?

I can hardly wait to plant some seeds you sent me (I just found them in an envelope you sent and I am embarrassed)...........

I haven't planted the other half of Mauro's seeds. Think I will send you some as you produced some beauties!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi there Gail,

All rested for your big sale?? Another sinningia opening up? Can't wait to see the bloom! Mine aren't even close to flowering yet.Whats the name say on the pot??

My story for today,LOL.

Ok,So I'm feeling sorry for myself today, mothers day coming up and I miss my son,so I surf over to EBAY(where I never go.LOL) Pick out a nice new strep from Japan out,bid on it,I was the hghest bidder until the last 23 seconds!!!! Somebody swipted it away from me just like that.......That blasted EBAY>>>>>>When am I ever going to learn.LOL.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

How funny, Jan........I know it is not 'real funny'. Let me take a quick pic of her anyway just for you!

She is on the bottom shelf so I moved the plants in front of her and was lying on the floor.....getting too old for up and down on my tummy all day (LOL)

She is really going to be something special. The tag says she is red with dots..........

Oh, very nice! I can't wait to see those blooms when they open ... sounds very interesting, red with dots! I bet that is going to be stunning!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

It's going to bloom for Mothers Day for you.Thats cool.

I just checked the plant I kept and it's got a bud too.

My eye hurts from two days of one doctor poking then today the specilest... You know my puter has spell check and hubbys does not I miss it...LOL

Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Since Jan hasn't answered yet, I can tell you that he must be the most responsible young son in his twenty something........He is so good to his mom. Jan must have been a wonderful mother to him as he adores her. She says he drives her crazy sometimes checking on her too often (LOL)
Don't all mothers wish they had that problem.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Well I can understand as mine do the same to me... It also drives me nuts at times... but gotta love them... Now my baby is moving about 2 2 1/2 hours away in August and I think that may bother me some in the begining but I am very happy for him...
I got another grid yesterday and the last one cost me 15. this one with tax cost me 11.11 pretty good.. I love something that goes down in price...LOL
Hugs to all,
Susan

Gail have a fabulous time at your sale this weekend. Can't wait for more pictures and a full report!!

Nancy you just keep on writing down the name of any of my plants you see and want cause your list of streps is so awesome I'll be happy picking as many as I can!!

Lin, that is a fabulous picture of you philo, I was expecting a bloom too but now that I've gone and looked I see that just a beautiful plant can also be chosen as bloom picture of the day!! And that is a beauty.......and Miss Lin I'd say you and Gail or both in the running for your own botanical gardens between her fabulous porch and your awesome pool room there. Talk about opening up a nursery or giving tours. I'd be thrilled at both your homes!

Susan did you say 22 1/2 hours away, is he going to Australia?? That would kill me!! I only have one of my grown children out of four that does not live here in town and as a mother hen that bugs me!! LOL She may be moving back to Idaho this summer though and I am thrilled with that possibility!

I received my first orders of the year and a fabulous trade box yesterday ........ but I'm too busy playing plants to post the pictures of them. ^_^ I'll be back later with those!!

Just saw Gail at the Violet sale at our mall. It was lots of fun. I only stayed a while, haven't felt well.

Lots of gorgeous plants. I didn't buy anything! I WANTED TO! I am just out of room! We had a nice time, so much fun talking to everyone.

Did you take pictures, Gail? I forgot to! I took pics of our show and sale, but didn't for the Mother's Day sale. How long did you stay? Nice to see you!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Sally,
Sorry you weren't feeling up to par today. It was nice of you to come by and visit with us. I stayed until the last plant sold. We were through and sold out by 3:30. My camera didn't accompany me today as it is big and (I am very scatterbrained) was afraid I might lose it in all the people and commotion. Besides, I was waiting on customers but it only took 6 hours to sell out. Marjorie just called me said today's sale set all records for the club.

I didn't think it was worth the effort all this week but now I am grateful everyone worked so hard to make it a smashing success.

Wish I had pictures to show everyone. One of the members had planted a clay pot about 16" across with at least 10 different kinds of episcias in it.........just wonderful looking.

Marjorie had the prettiest strep of all called 'Helena' by Oglevee. I put it in my greedy little hands to buy the minute I saw it and a customer looked at me and said, "Oh, I wanted that one". Bummer, I had be nice and let her buy it.

If anyone has a leaf of Helena I would do flips for a leaf. I rarely come across the Oglevee streps for sale through vendors. And............they are always so strong and prolific bloomers.

South, TX

WOW! Set a record!!! That is wonderful. I don't have room to grow to sell. I wish I did! I am happy you are in the group!

I wanted that pretty velvety plant so much, Silverglades! I love the Mermaid's Kiss too. I just don't have room and my plants are growing! I would like a smaller shelf like my large one, but they only come in silver when small.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Gail..congrats girl!! Sounds like you had a Great Sale : )

Brenda..LOL...I have already ran a pen out of ink jotting down names..lol..this will be fun : )

Lin..Love that philo!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I thought I was 'emptying' the shelves for the sale, but there are still full.........just have a little more room to spread out. mrsbonnie, I know what you mean about not being able to buy just a 'few'!

Bristol's YumpinYimminy. I got this plants a week or so ago from Rob's VB and decided to leave a single bloom on it (I cut off most of the blooms on the new plants to encourage vegetative and root growth).

And my Bristol's Tropical Twister finally has more than a single bloom on it. For months and months now it's only had a single bloom at a time. Now there are 4 :)

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Jan,
It was not me but I was betting on others on there...LOL
Hugs,
Susan
Yes beautiful pictures....

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Jan, I just potted up today (worked all day on plants as that is what I wanted to do) Hototogishu......so aren't you glad you didn't win.......it won't be long before you can have one.

Happy Birthday Rain! Let me show you a picture of a sinningia you sent and said you didn't know what it was. It is getting ready to bloom.

I will come back to post for Bonnie!

Thumbnail by gessiegail
Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Bonnie, here are some of your crosses of the seeds you sent me. I have a question. There is more than one plant in each pot except for one of Mark Twain x Fireworks. Do I need to separate the others into their own pots or just let 2 or 3 grow together in a new bigger pot? The back right pic is the Mark Twain x Fireworks getting ready to bloom.

****edited to say to Jan that your shortcake and others are in the front of this picture.......you can't see them!

Bonnie, Silhouette just won't grow fast enough as I want to send you your cuttings. Fuschia Treasure is big and can be cut. Since these are my real first effort at propagating sinningias, should I put them in my own Volkmann's wicking mix? This is Dave's mix.

(Zone 1)

Oh, are all of those Sinningia's Gail? Very nice! Can't wait to see the blooms!

Oh, how did the sale go yesterday? I hope it was really wonderful and successful too! I bet you are exhausted!

Happy Mom's Day!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, we set a record for sales in only 51/2 hours! I was so tired last night I was just stupid, but I waked up this morning, didn't go to church and have been frantically working all day trying to get the rest of my plants taken care of. That will take several days this week.

I so wish you all lived closer as I can tell I am going to have to have another throwing away party. Just can't take care of this many african violets. They have become 'on the outs' with me as I discover new gesneriads.

Thanks for the Happy Mom's Day! The kids all called and we visited. Weren't you going to get to see your 'adopted daughter' (neice) sometime this weekend.

I may have to actually watch the videos that came with this camera as I am not doing such a hot job. Lazy I am when it comes to things like that. 'Lady Lady' is blooming again.

Iam in love with 'Los Angeles' by Dale Marten.

Lin, here is your favorite 'Amizade'. I wish they would quit blooming so I can take cuttings.

Isn't 'Pink Sunrise' a cutie with the hot pink and yellow!
