Oh, such pretties today Ladies! I had hoped to get on here earlier to post but called my baby sister to wish her a Happy Birthday and to see if she liked her present I sent ... and ended up on the phone with her for over 2 hours! LOL. We love to talk! She lives in North Georgia so I don't get to see her very often.

Gail, I know you must still be so busy with labeling all those plants for the sale this coming weekend! I hope you will take a few pictures of all those Blooming Beauties all dressed up and in their cute containers when they are on display for the sale!

Susan: Alsobia dianthiflora: Syn. Episcia Dianthiflora: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/573/ I used to have a beautiful large hanging basket of this plant but it died last year! It is a Gesneriad closely related to the Episcia.

Well, I am heading back outside to play in the yard! It's gonna be another very hot day here ... 90 again today! I will probably jump in the pool this afternoon!

Susan: I have heard that yarn is not good to use as wicking material because it breaks down and rots away quickly.

You can buy nylon cord at Wal-Mart that is good for wicking. You will find it in the hardware section.

Bluebird Greenhouse sells it: http://www.bluebirdgreenhouse.com/html/supply01.htm Scroll down the page to find it.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks... I hate to think I have to wick these again.... but they just don't seem to be getting the water I think they should... Thanks again..
Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Susan, it is easy to rewick................get a paper clip, curve one end real small and straighten out the rest............this way you can take the Mason line you get at Walmart #36 or #48 is what I use............just wrap the wet string around your paper clip and push from the hole in the bottom of the pot to the top of the pot.

Ken Froesbe at Hill Country AFrican Violet Nursery taught me that little trick......

Yes, I am still working...............

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Hey, I just wanted to say if you're in the Luling-Sequin area your are close to my Uncle Fred Wilson and his son Fred. I love that area, its just full of some the finest kind of people... especially my Uncle and my boy!!! Also such a beatiful area - I've been trying to talk my DH into buying property to retire there.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I just wanted to say thanks about the wicking .. I know how to put the wick in it just gives me a bad head ache from keeping my neck bent... We are under tornado watchs for a few more hours and I am taking puter off line... Gail what part off wally world is in it?
Thanks
Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I find it on one of aisles where the fishing stuff is.............it is white and acrylic ...........if you are using a 4 or 5" pot you may need to put two of the #36..............that is why I like the #48, but you can only find it at Academy or fishing gear stores.

Allgr8, a lot of people want to retire in Seguin with the Guadalupe river running through it.......New Braunfels is 14 miles away and almost has doubled in size in the last 15 years. It is growing all the way to San Antonio and out Hwy 46 to Boerne (36 miles out of New Braunfels) It is a beautiful part of Texas............

Ken Froesbe has his African Violet nursery (with many orchids and other plants) in Beorne. Beorne is completely a wonderful retirement place with people coming from everywhere to retire and the main street has the neatest shops of any small town in Texas.

Good Morning All,
Well we had no tornado's but it rocked our world with storms.... The earth moved here for awhile...LOL My poor dog Dolly is so afraid of storms... I told hubby go sleep in spare room Dolly is sleeping with me...Well I drugged her and thought she would go to sleep as she has been doing much better with the storms... Well that is before the earth was being hit with bolts left and right and the thunder was just as bad.... She is out cold now on the couch while I am dead to the world....
I don't have anything in bigger then a 3 inch pot so I will go with the smaller size if they have it... If not I will order off line...
Well I am off to try to do a few things like maybe take a nap....LOL no nap have to go to bank and I guess wally world...
Hope everyone else stayed safe lastnight....

Susan

Susan, glad you missed the brunt of it!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, the worst is over getting ready. All I have to do today is put prices on a stick with label............you can't see much in these pictures as there is so much plastic in between plants!! But it will give you an idea..................tomorrow we will have so much fun. When the closing hour is approaching, anything not sold gets marked down to almost giving away...........no one wants to take anything back home after the work.

Fabulous looking plants Gail, really just unbelievable!! I can't even imagine all the work involved getting those plants ready. Good thing your not charging by the hour for them! LOL They are going to make the buyers and receivers really happy when they get a look at those beauties! ^_^

Susan I may complain about the snow staying too long here but I'd much rather have it than what so many others have to deal with weather wise! Tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.... nope I'll just stay buried under snow for 6 months out of the year!!

Another whoop de doo center on a Bristol's strep, this little plant has been the most pitiful thing all winter, nearly dieing on me more than once. So with no foliage to speak of it keeps sending out very pretty blooms! Mei Lei

She is a beauty like I have never seen.................when I get through the month of May (son coming in with girlfriend on Tuesday) (going to visit my other daughter for a week in May) I am going to place an order of streps..........just can't decide which ones I want...........Mei Lei is even prettier in your pic than on the vendor's sites..................

Oh My Goodness Gail ... What Beautiful Blooms for the Mother's Day Sale! I hope you are able to take photo's of all the tables set up with those gorgeous plants ... I can just see all the beaming, smiles now! You do such an amazing job of growing and then decorating them with the containers and ribbons and bows! It's just the icing on the cake!
I bet you are going to be thoroughly exhausted by Monday!

I might not get back on line until Monday so: "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY" to all you ladies out there too! And, Miss Kim ... an extra special happy day to you to! That is so sweet of you to include me in the mom's day wishes! I am only a "mom" to 4 kitties but I have a Goddaughter who makes me feel pretty special and always remembers me on Mother's day, and her brother does too. We are actually going to Orlando tomorrow to her graduation. Actually she is 27 years old and finally got her Masters Degree, so we are going over to celebrate with her and her husband and her parents who are great friends of ours.

Ok, heading back outside in the 90 degree heat to help hubby lay the last of the sod! He spent yesterday digging up a humongous area in the front yard where crab grass had taken over and we are re-sodding - should have waited until early evening when it ain't so danged hot!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Happy Mother's Day,also, to everyone. I have something cute to share that I picked up at the pharmacy. Jerry had it posted on the front register and had copies made as everyone wanted it!

WHO'S JOB IS IT??

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

**********LOL>>>>>>>>>>>I am the one who didn't do anything............just loved this

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Hi All,
Had to go back to the eye doctor today and had to go to a diffrent one... my eye hurts... It has had new floaters and bright light flashing in it and then this morning it brought it friends to visit..LOL It had a slight hemmorage in three pieces and I am on hubby puter so I can't explain any more as my paper work in in living room with my puter that can't get one line for some reason.... my eye hurts like heck...
Ok the fishing line Gail... They did not have Mason they did have Catfish... #18 it is a dropline it is twisted and it contains one or more of nylon, polyproplene or polyester is this ok? Ok going back to find out why my puter is off line..
One eye here signing off.
Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

with number 18, you have to use two strings at least to wick...........good luck with your eyes............

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

but is the the right stuff? I don't have to wick again down the road.... My eye hurts from two days of them poking... They say that the floaters will go away... I have to watch for more of them and my vision changing from the sides as that may mean my retina is detaching....
Hugs,
Susan
