shed construction

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

he was going to cut the shingles to fit... after the whole thing was on... he had a few more left... trying to beat the rain

Funny how they do not really look right until the roof goes on. Starting to look like it is begining to belong. Enjoy the trip with you. :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

those shingles match the house.... we just did the house over last oct.... i wanted to make sure they matched

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

It's so cute when the shed matches the house.

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

Now, I COULD build a shed that matches my house! A bunch of sticks tied at the top, unpainted and falling apart!

What a wonderful "shed", onewish!!!! You have a great guy there, hang on to him!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you Jen & Jax..... yeah I think I will keep him for a while

:)

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Oh, you're so lucky!! That's a really large one, too! Good goin'!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

How did you get him to start working on it again???

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

A bottle of beer with no church key. In a flash he picks up a hammer to drive and kink a nail. Sometimes that's enough to start the work mood again.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I didn't harp on him at all.... didn't say a word... might be a new trick

:)

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

Not a new trick.............but a wise decision. Honey on good bread makes it better. That's an old old Dutch saying.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Allison, are you finished yet? Or did the heat slow down the process? We need an update!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the heat slowed down the process.... but he did buy the trim this week.... been too humid to finish the painting... hopefully soon

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

My dh is making a "playhouse" for dd out of two wood crates stacked on top of each other. It's 3' x 4', about 5' tall. There's a hand-made door, two small yard-sale double hung windows with screens, and (leftover) siding! As did the treehouse, I will inherit the playhouse for a garden shed when dd tires of it.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

very cool... lets see some pics

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah! Sounds great Sue!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

here is what he has been up to since we can't paint... he is running pvc pipe to 2 garden hoses... so I don't have to drag the hose up the hill... and still have to use the watering can to get the hanging baskets... and not run through the rest of the garden

one hose holder

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

he has it all connected already.... put some landscape fabric over the gravel... and we are going to cover it with mulch and some large planters behind the gravel spot.... we are coming out a few feet out behind where all the posts are... and going to put some plants in here and there.....

next week we are going to mess around with this micro watering thingie we found at lowes... in the garden beds.. he ran a separate line for it

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Awesome, when he's done he can come install one for me. :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

so far it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be.... avoiding digging in the dirt on that long stretch was best... the gravel was easy to pull up compared to the boulders in the ground

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Nice Allison!!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Here's our little shed so far!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

what no window box?

it does look like it's going to be lots of fun for her... great job

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Primrose Sue - cute little shed! I think you need to paint murals of flowers on the sides, to make it look like a part of the garden! But I'm kind of crazy like that....so if you like it white, don't even listen to me!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

That's awesome .... tight construction.

I like it white ..... or perhaps like Dr. Who's Telephone Booth Space Ship .... It's just about the right shape

:-)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh! So right! It's the Tardis! I hear the theme song already....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I liked Dr. Who also.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I need one of those big sheds. Both of you have done a great job. The new Dr Who is on BBC America and the SciFi channel. Hate to admit I'm old enough to remember the original. I also want that pvc pipe extension deal. What a good idea, you guys are so smart.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you.... the hoses work great.... soooo happy for that... the mirco dripper... eeeehhh not so much... it would take way too many hoses & drippers to do the whole property.... we are going with pvc and pop up sprinklers.. going to be a bit more work... but cheaper

going to put the micro set up in this bed because it's narrow... might as well use what we bought already

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Gonna do the irrigation system yourself??

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

HE is

:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - not easy. Especially with your steep slopes.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

he said it won't be a problem... LOL... we will see

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Oh, the famous -it won't be a problem line. gotta love it.
DH mentioned doing the pvc pipe thing also. great minds think alike. now, when will it get done, that's another ?
I don't nag, cuz I know he has only so much time during the summer. He is a Christian school teacher and this summer he spent 4 weeks building a 3-unit floor-to-ceiling bookcase for a woman in our church with hidden plugs for light-up houses with a box that hides the switch for them. It is removable also. I could go on and on , but it turned out great. But being the first one he built for a customer, it took waayyy longer than he thought and he quoted a real low price (which included materials), plus she changed her mind mid-stream. Anyway, let's say it was a great learning curve. But it is absolutely AWESOME and she loves it, so maybe that will bring in other jobs during the summers. We also do framing on the side. He is thinking ahead toward retirement, but we DO need to get realistic with our prices, so that we will be able to live. Sorry to ramble.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have someone I would like to frame...Seriously, it's great to have that kind of talent.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it is good to be able to do that sort of thing... not me that's for sure

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

victor - didn't realize I was setting you up again. you are TOO much. lol

Allison, your DH is amazing. When he can't work on the shed he goes to plan B.

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

Those steep slopes are an asset to a three or four pounds per square inch gravity fed system. In such a system you need some sort of water storage that produces that gravity feed. I use two barrels on an eight foot tower. From them comes the hundred and ten gallons of water at three or four pounds gavity to drip lines off a number of main lines. Various valves in line control where the water goes and for how long. A fill valve for the barrels would be nice. I have just never gone to that extent. I crawl the ladder to change the fill line between barrels. Good enough for me without all the bells and whistles. I can deliver one hundred and ten gallons to my patches in twenty minutes without any difficulty.
My well water pump will refill the barrels in about the same amount of time.

My system components were purchased from Dripworks of California. They are on line and have or are the source for the only tested T-Tape drip lines. Everything is in that catalog including much design help. If you follow their instructions there is no charge for design supervision and suggestion. There are other sources that may have good help available. I run with these folks because they have helped me and some friends consistantly and correctly.

ok he listened to me FOR ONCE... going with the drip lines again

:)

we found this site that was a heck of a lot cheaper than lowes
