What's Blooming Outside Your Door, Part 2

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Don't lose hope, Mary. There's a whole summer ahead!!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I may be totally grey when that happens, LOL

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

Love that fence, so cute!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Great pictures everyone!

Tils-like the little fence.

Bea, maybe your upside-down pot disoriented your fairy and that's how she fell. ;)

Carla-wow, you're going to be busy with that much veggie space!

Here's another of my rhodies. It's looking better than it has in years. It's in a little too much sun and our warm summers in 05 and 06 weren't kind to it. (I've been wanting to move it somewhere with a little more shade for ages but haven't had just the right spot.) Funny thing, I don't remember ever noticing it was a double before-or it's been so long since it looked this good, I'd forgotten.

lol, dont feel bad tilly, Imy DH tore out the patio in our yard to build a deck about 15 years ago! which means that we have been walking on base rock for a long time ugh! we started pouring cement 2 years ago and then ran into a snag....no more like a complete halt... when DH inhaled alot of cement mix it created alot of scary bloody noses.... its taken him 2 years to build up the courage to mix cement again. We are only mixing from powder 1 more small area (exposed agregate), then we'll have a cement truck or contractor come do the rest.
He was alot younger when we started the project! LOL! Once the cement gets done, we'll build a huge deck off the back of the house... I am hoping this year!

oh, I FINALLY have poppies! LOL!

LOL! he was none too pleased that Mr Squirell wouldnt come down for a closer view of the garden! :o)

Use a mask when you're pouring the dry cement!! It's hard on the lungs.

Returned from my trip to Arkansas to a crisis
with my pygmy doe, who ended up having a c-section.
Now I have a goat in my kitchen recovering. :)

My blue poppy has finally bloomed!
Yesterday I pinched the buds off of the other plants
per Heidi's suggestion. Ouch, that hurt.

But had to let this one bloom.
OMG, I want to plant an entire FIELD of them.

BTW, I put up my May photos on my garden blog,
along with some photos of the goats and rabbits,
my fertilizer factories.

Welcome back, Neo. Glad your girl's okay. Very funny about the kitchen. I've always said that's why I can't have farm animals, because eventually they'd end up in the house.

I've been looking at blue poppies - they look spectacular. So why did Heidi say to pop the buds off of them? Will they reseed as well as other poppies, do you think?

Poulsbo, WA

Thanks Katie,
I feel like one of those news stories where they come
in with cameras and everyone is appalled,
hay all over the floor! :)

Heidi said the plant dies after it blooms,
so by pinching off the buds until like the third year,
you get a bigger plant with more blossoms.
And yes, my understanding is that they reseed just
like any other poppy. That is what I am hoping for at least.

I don't remember where I bought these plants,
but checked several nurseries today and nobody had any.
The person who could create a rose this color would
retire very wealthy. :)

Oh---Everyones pictures are wonderful. I really enjoyed the trip down through this thread---Kind of like a beautiful garden tour. I will post some of mine now.
Wish I knew the secret to putting multiples on one post but I don't.

Beautiful pictures, beebonnet. Your clematis photo you should really enlarge and frame - maybe enter it in the photo contest this year. The composition and the flowers and buds are spectacular. What clematis is that?

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Taz, has changed color.

Nice photos, Beebonnet, aren't the columbines wonderful?!
I picked up another one today.

Tilly, I don't think I have seen a Rosemary bloom before.
That is very pretty.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

At least I think it is, a upright.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

tills, I would say that is a rosemary, looks just like mine :o) and they smell devine!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Laurie, told me what it was and it had no tag when I bought it, but loved the twisted look and color, I love blues and purple colors.
Dont know if you seen my Purple Haze garden.

Rachel, "eye wonder" is fantastic! I've not seen colors like that on an iris. Very rich and lush. Is that a pacific coast iris?
FYI, for those wondering from way up a few pages, here is Wattakaka sinensis:

At least I hope that's what it turns out to be. I ended up giving them all away without realizing it and started new ones. They've sprouted well so if anyone gets blooms off theirs, post!

Here's one from today.

tills I love that arbor bench! did your DH make it? I'm looking for designs for the arbors my DH is building this weekend. mine wont have a bench, they will both have gates that lead to the stairs in the upper level of our yard. I like the pointed roof on that one!

Coos Bay, OR(Zone 9a)

Katie59--Thank You. I am very proud of this clematis, because it is thriving for me and I have killed quite a number of other clematis. This one is Blue Fountain. It will kind of change color as it goes along---at least it did last year---so I will take more pictures of it and post if you would like. It's growing on an old bird feeder my DH made. We had to put up a wire extension last summer because it started to outgrow the height of the feeder. It wasn't supposed to get this tall.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Mmmmm. Blue Fountain. I'll have to remember that. I love it.

Everybody's gardens look so nice - wish I was home so I could get outside and dig - and maybe even take some pictures to post. Seems like I can't find the time to get outside in the daylight. I'm so looking forward to this weekend.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Tilly..love your purple haze garden. So inviting! Nice place to curl up with a good book (on gardening of course) and relax.
Rainy, dreary day today. To cheer me up..I went to the nursery..look what followed me home. It was sitting out the front doors at the nursery and the minute I walked buy..she said ," hey lady..its cold and rainy out here. Can you please take me home? What could I do? She asked so nicely. This is called " Falling in Love". The blooms are huge and so perfect and it smells devine! :)

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Argh. Have fun with that. Hope your day goes quickly tomorrow.

Mine isn't as big as that, but it's about 10 inches high now. And it stayed beautiful evergreen all winter without even losing a branch. This is truly a strange plant (in a good way!)) And you gave me three.

Federal Way, WA

I have mostly a perennial garden in my front yard, then in my top yard are some ornamental trees rhodies, a couple of lilacs, a golden chain tree, lots of Ivy by my driveway, and in my backyard is my pink pampas and along side of that is fountain grass. And I love houweplants too. I have a Hoya plant that has about 30 blooms on it and makes my kitchen smell like a perfumery! Everyone have a great Memorial Day weekend! Melodie
