ooo grams-pretty!! I mixed mine w/ my tulips!! I like the contrast in height & color!!

Connie-baby tulips were from Van Bourgian (sp?) which isn't great for plants, but have had no issues with their bulbs.....they have a $5 section that is great, then you can get a $25 of $50 couplon....

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Here's my co-op babies, but just the best one from each LOL. I keep a plant inventory, so I needed the pics for that. They are outside, getting acclimated to this evil weather. It's 37, but they are on my patio steps right by the house where it stays warmer and there is protection from the wind.

Stacey, I definitely want a couple of your seedlings from that tree ^_^
Never heard of that bulb company. I hope the watermelon do good, I have never tried these b4 or the white cukes. The past 2 years our cukes have died out, I hope these make it.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

some free w/ purchase daff bulbs that I didn't know what to do with. I'm so glad I planted them here. there are mixed varieties, so they bloom over a long period. they are at the base of a blue spruce

Connie-Both need lots of sun and LOTS of room!! They are both vines that get about 20-30' long at least...I will get you seedlings as soon as they start popping up-usually in June!!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

They look pretty good grams!!! The pewter veil looks like it sould use a little root stimulator stuff or miracle gro to help it a little!! I have been putting my midnight rose in the sun and the pink speckles are coming out more!!YEAH!!

Connie-they are in GW-the website is www.dutchbulbs.com
they have a bad GW rating and have had issues form the plants I ordered from them, but none of the bulbs:) Their bulbs have out performed the Brent & Becky's bulbs, some of which haven't even come up yet!!:(

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

ok I am confused now, I thought you were talking about the dogwood sprouting seedlings, what vine sproutings are you talking about? lol

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

The cukes and watermelons silly!!!

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

oh Lord lol, I knew that tho. We have grown cukes and watermelons b4, amoung other things ^_^

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

OK-just makin sure-I had little pumpkins last year and had NO CLUE!!! They were in 2 of my neighbors yards, up or fence-all over the place!!LOL

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Speakining of Pumpkins. i have a friend who grows pumpkins (smaller variety ) All down her asphalt driveway, both sides!! You can imagine in the fall what happens!! Crispy fall leaves and beautiful
pumpkins line the route to the house!! It is spectacular as she has a 220' curving driveway!!
The asphalt takes the pumpkins where they want to go ..HOT and HOTTER!!
So many interesting plantings!
Stacey I will take a seedling of the dogwood if you can do that.
Which route do you take to Lansing?

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

hi,
my plants arrived in beautiful shape, except for echi 'sundown' that all its leaves were dead. i still put it into the new pot and i'm hoping for the best. ^_^. i was very surprised that they were all so big and beautiful. now i just have to keep them that way. ^_^

i had done TNN co-op's years ago and i didn't do so well with keeping them alive. but..... i was also very new to gardening and it was earlier in the spring season, that i received them. but there were still ones that have arrived as no go's, but this is not just TNN i've had it happen with larger plants from other suppliers too. i feel this is just another part of the co-op experience. although we all wish everything could be perfect, lets face it, it is not. that is life. i ordered 1 extra on my small orders and 4 extra an my heuchera order, because i need 8-9 so i got 13. i should be ok. ^_^ i have learned to do this and to listen and hear the co-op person when they send this type of message. so over the years i've gotten better at this whole thing.
also if i have extra plants i have friends that will be very happy to take them off my hands. ^_^
thank you so much everyone for all your hard work. it is truelly appreciated by me and i always feel like just saying that doesn't express the gratitude i feel.

Oh Debi, Franklin's so cute and your bed is goreous with those white lilies popping out at ya!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Debi-thanks-sorry about the echies-I learned a few things this time so I can PROMISE the next one in the fall will be better!! Love the pic and so did the girl I work with-she used to have a black peckinese (sp?)...If my dog would ever leave the house, I could get a pic with her-she loves my DH though (her daddy) and never leaves his side and he is a hermit!!

Athens, PA

Debi,

Beautiful bed. Love your guard puppy!

Gram, Yes, on Cornus kousa, too. And there are a lot of varieties on this one, ...the thing to watch for is the sheer volume of flowers; some are way more floriferous than others, and some have a lot of flowers in the south, like in Tennessee, but when they come north, they are just so-so.

Now, not that you guys will think I am a know-it-all, but all dogwoods will have white flowers from seed, no matter what color the parents are.

llloquin,
Thank You so much for the sage advise. I have a lot to learn I see!!
Do you have any recommended cultivars??
I love the red, the redder the better!!!
Julie

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Hello Troops! Just poppin' over to see what you're all up to...and it looks like primarily shopping. LOL! I've not taken any pics of the babies but will do so soon. I think everything is going to make it with the exception of (you guessed it) 2 of the echies. But at least they were 2 different ones so I've still got one of each. ;-)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Julie, The main one available is Cherokee Chief, that's the most common, and the one I have, but mine isn't new, and in fact, Cherokee Chief might have been superceded.

Dogwoods in general are susceptible to some diseases, and things like borer and mildew and so resistant varieties are always being developed, esp by universities. I don't think they have a whole host of red ones available though, but the Manitoba people and Univ of Minn are always coming out with cold hardy and disease resistant varieties, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if there are lots of red dogwoods for you to choose from up there. BUT look for some stellar fall foliage or gigantic red fall fruit when you purchase, because hopefully you will have that tree for over 50 years.

(But if anybody reading this lives in Floida or South Georgia, for example, I think there is a better red avail than Cherokee Chief bred for your southern climate. It is regional.)

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Suzy-why is that-all dogwoods have white flowering tree from seed???

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

AH HA!! I went to the site hyperlinked by Suzy and it said you must take a grafted cutting to get the same red treeor pink etc. They said all dogwoods grown from seed are white!!
What useful information!!
Thank You for the help all!! Stacey, I still want you to save me any small starts you get. I will put them out and let them grow!! Red or white I love em!!
Julie

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

OK-I get a bizillion seedlings in the spring-about June or so....anyone else have any new growth or buds on anything from the co-op???

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I have some new growth but our temps have been up and down so they are taking their time. But all are still alive. :~)

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

That's why I was afraid to put them out til Memorial DAy weekend....I am a wuss and don't like to loose babies!!:)

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Hello All. I reported on my co-opbabies up there^ Stacey. You might have missed my post?

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

oh-I saw that-I was hoping for some new news of buds and things and some pics:)

Bettendorf, IA

I think I killed a couple of mine :( I had them inside under light a few days and then it warmed up so I placed them outside in a safe location until i could pot or plant them. We hgad gray days then and I was expecting to get them handled within a day or 2. Of course life happened and I finally got to them but it had gotten sunny sunny and a coupld were dried out. :(

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

try babying them-give em a good soak and maybe add some miracle grow or something to that affect after they have been kept watered for a few days-I had a queen of the prairie last year that I let sit in a pot for a few mos. in full sun and forgot to water it sometimes for over a week and it was dry as a bone-even when I planted it-now it is coming back in full force-I about fell over-I thought I had killed it for sure!! Don't give up hope yet!!

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

LOL @ "oh-I saw that-I " One can never be sure when there's no response.

I'll try to take some pics this afternoon but I think they are a long way from having buds.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

My heucheras look great and my echies are sad but I have high hopes!

Athens, PA

I put mine into pots and everything is now sitting outside in the shade on my deck. I keep wondering if I should/can just plant my new babies out into the garden. I noticed the heuchs and echies from the co-op were bigger than what I have recieved from places like Wayside Gardens, etc in the past.

I appreciate some input on this.

Thanks
Carolyn

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I am a person that would rather be safe then sorry, so I ere on the side of caution and will not plant mine until labor day weekend....I am a worry wort though, so you can't always go by me...my echies died off almost all of the growth from when I got them, I started putting them in the sun for a couple hrs. a day and they have new growth!!:)

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Ummmm Fairy....Labor day is in September....you sure you want to wait that long????

Two of my three echies look dead and I have them in the shade, maybe I should move them to the sun. Did you put yours in pooppots?

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

My echies are in half day sun. Hope I have similar results.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

My perennials are on the back patio which is more or less mostly shade with a tiny bit of sun. I'm not going to like it if I loose any of them but it will hurt alot less than if I had paid full price at a nursery for any of them:LOL:

If anyone has a Lime Rickey Heuchera they would like to share for postage or maybe a trade--PM me. I've been after that one for a while and I guess its not that popular in the co-ops anymore, I never see it.

Here are the newly cowpotted heuchera, echinacea and the grasses.

mine all have new growth and are doing really well!!! oh happy me!!!!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oooohhhhh...so maybe you ARE Martha! ^_^

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Stacey, Mine all have new growth except the 2 Echies I put on the heat mat under lights. Oops! That did not make them happy. I repotted everything when I first got it, but in tall narrow 3" pots, not those jumbo ones Donna/dmac has pictured above. That might have been a mistake on my part, but what's done is done. They were getting a little rain earlier today, and now they are under the patio table/umbrella so they can get the mist and the negative ions, but not the actual rain water because they don't need anymore water until those roots get going.

Carolyn, If you have good friable soil, and a nice semi shaded spot all picked out for your Heuchera/Heucherella, and there isn't competition with older, bigger, more established plants, then go ahead and plant them in the ground.

The echies, and some of the other things, well, you need a mayoniasse jar or something to keep the rain from them in case you get one of those Noah's Ark's 40 days and 40 nights of rain and mist we can sometimes get in May-early June. We can get those here and it will rot those Echies on about day 3 or 4. You can see them just sort of melt away and it's very sad.

Suzy

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Naw, if she were Martha, she'd have to call her assistant to look at them and report back.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

Well, if they were at her Turkey Hill home I'm sure it would fall to the gardening staff to keep them all camera ready:lol:

Do those pots really look big? =) Well, they were free which is the important thing here:lol: Part of the stuff I got from work. The echies are in the 4inch cowpots sitting on the brick windowsill in the back. Not quite sure how they're doing yet.

I'm probably going to pull the dead mum plugs out of some of the cowpots and try to get them dried out before some of the other stuff I've bought gets here. I swear I've lost my mind with the co-op purchases this spring. Didn't seem like a big deal all neatly jotted down in my co-op notebook...then the plants and bulbs started arriving:lol:
