Has anyone else seen those annoying "pop up" ads?

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

Seems like it is always this same company. You would think they would get the message. I will NEVER have any interest in any company that puts on those ads, even if it would be something I would ordinarily follow up on. **hint** **hint**

I've sent a copy of that screenshot to our sales team to let them know - thank you so much for capturing it (it really does help us make a better case with them when we can show them what our members are seeing.)

The adds on the top of the newsletter are driving me nuts too! I reported them in this thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/869900/ so won't repeat the picture

Okus, the ads you're seeing are perfectly OK, they're the normal type of ads you would see if you have ads turned on in your preferences or if you're not a subscriber. The reason you're seeing them is because of the bug with that page where it thinks you're not logged in, completely separate problem from this. This thread is about popup ads which are not supposed to be there at all even for people who do view the ads.

I've not had trouble with any popups on DG, but I followed the link Badseed posted in Post #4886893. If you read it, they have a sly way of essentially telling you that they have put a cookie on your computer and based on where you go, they follow you with pop-ups to entice you. You can opt out of receiving things from them on that link from Badseed - but I would recommend cleaning out your cookies as another line of defense against this persistent marketer.

I have not seen any popup ads but every time I get on DG I end up with lots of tracking cookies and end up having to do a spyware scan. Anybody else having this problem?

I tried to get the ads off by using the "take the ads Off" box on the home page but nothing came of it. I seem to be getting more ads than before! I am a subscriber, but not very interested in computer technology or buying things. I can live with the ads by ignoring them, which is what I'm used to, but would like not to have them at all. Anything that can stop them?

I just tried getting the ads off, again. This time Success! Third time's the charm, I guess. We'll see if this lasts.

I've been having trouble with some pop-ups lately. There are words that are green and double underlined in the text if your cursor touches these words you get a pop-up. The word "computer" in this post shows that way to me.

I don't see the word computer in that post, or anything double underlined--did you post a link to the correct post?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Sorry, It was the word "coupons" in that post. I had noticed the word computer in another post earlier. Right now It's not like that but they seem to come and go. I'll see one and then go back and it's gone then it will be there again.

I went out of this thread and browsed DG for a few minutes and now it's back like that. I have my add preference not checked. When I put my cursor on that word I got an add for GameVance (whatever that is)

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I don't know what's making it do that, but I really don't think it's DG, I've never seen anything like that here. I wonder if it's a browser thing, maybe a "feature" in your browser, or something that came along for the ride with a browser toolbar that you installed, something like that.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I was looking to see if anyone else was finding these and came across this thread, but what they are talking about is different than I'm getting. I have some blockers and security screens but I don't know too much about them. I'll get Ric to check it out for me. Just wanted to know if anyone else is getting them. It's only been recently that I've seen them. Right now it's not there but I bet if I go out of this thread and then come back in a few minutes it will be.

Here's one I caught today in the pets forum

Hmmm...the one I caught was in the pets forum too. I wonder if it is a pet related survey?

Thank you for submitting that screenshot, it's very helpful!

We're working on this and I have scheduled a conference call early this week with 4 of our NameMedia people, and I'll be bringing this issue up in that call.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Well, this is weird. I've never gotten any popups at all here but I've gotten that one at Television without Pity. Don't know why it would manage to show up there but not here, but I mention it in case it helps.

hart, your preferences show that you have all ads turned off, so you should never see any ads on this site.

I got this one this morning...

I just got off the phone with my guys at HQ and I gave them the additional information that I have gathered:

1) This is happening in the Pets forum every time (apparently).

2) It's coming through the "Sponsorship" and not the "Ads".

With that information, Patrick at HQ was confident that he knew how this was coming through and he's getting right on it.

So, give it a little time (24 hours) and if anyone sees one after that, PLEASE report it again and a screenshot helps but isn't required.

Nobody at this company wants popups on DG and this is an embarrassment for all of us. They are working as hard as they can to stop these villainous advertisers from sneaking this through our system.

Ive privately decided that pop-ups will be boycotted my me and mine.

Take similar stance with Dave. Advertisements are one thing: pop up and action pop-up are another *&^%!!! thing altogether.

slatwood, I disabled the ads on your membership, so you'll never see them at Dave's.
