Has anyone else seen those annoying "pop up" ads?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Terry, I only saw it the night I posted and it was just before I posted. I've tried clicking in and out and back through the pet forum and have not been able to get that sponsor or bouncing ad again. And I tried! LOL The ad I saw matched the sponsor that was at the bottom. I think it was blue and green and was for Safety something.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Got it! It was Safety Count! Before I could capture the screen, it went away.

pesky little thing, eh?

Okay, I'll keep trying - having the name definitely helps!

It just happened again! It is a small ball that pops up in the screen and says "safecount.net your opinion matters please take this short survey"

This is the same one I saw in the pets forum last week, kind of freaked me out for a second. I then scrolled to the bottom of the screen and they had an ad at the bottom as a forum sponsor. The pop-up only lasted for a few seconds but was right in the middle of the screen.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

That is it! It seems to be tied to a sponsor banner for Market something. It seems getting that one is hit or miss. It is one that also wants you to take a survey.

Terry - it just now did it again and I got a "print screen" capture & pasted it into a word doc. Do you have an email address I can forward it to so that you can see it?

If you save it as a jpeg .jpg, you can post it as a photo.

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

I'm using an OLD computer @ work and couldn't find an option to do that...any ideas??

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Yay! Way to go sadie!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I guess you have to wait for someone to give you an email addy or you could copy and past it to a paint or photo program to save it as a .jpg. I can't remember if you can still use a .bmp here or not. I'm thinking it will change a .bmp to a .jpg but I could be wrong.

Deleted my email. ;)

Well, I found a way to save as a .BMP but it didn't give me the jpeg option, let's see if this works...the file looks huge!

Woo hoo! You got it and you did it.

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

LOL, we cross posted. The BMP turned out ok and DG did a good job reducing the size.

Thanks Dave :-)

Thank you for catching it! I've got it copied and sent to the folks who work with our advertisers, and made my heartfelt plea for no floating ads ;o)

A reply from Ted:

Hi Terry....I totally agree that floating ads should not be running anywhere on DavesGarden. We'll take it down immediately.

Thanks for the head's up!

Three cheers for Dave and Terry. ;)

Much of the credit goes to those of you who were able to track it down and get a screenshot for us. That helps a bunch!

Thanks for getting rid of this! I HATE those annoying pop ups and would never even consider anything they were promoting.

If any others show up, PLEASE take a screenshot if you can, and post it in this forum, so we can take care of it.

We have complete control over these ads, but when one slips through we need to see it so we can remove it.

VERY computer challenged here. How do you do a screenshot?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Most keyboards have a print screen on the keyboard. Press that and it saves a copy of the screen to your clipboard. Open mspaint and paste (control v) to a new file there. You can then save it to your pictures file and post it at will.

Thanks Zanymouse!

***squeak** you're welcome!

That is the same pest they had taken off the last time! Persistant aren't they!

I'm glad that ya'll are letting us know about this. I wrote Ted again and his response is:

Hi Dave....not sure how this got through, but we will track it down and get rid of it.

It's not intentional that these appear, and Ted (the lead sales guy at NameMedia) is excellent at being responsive to getting this stuff off. Ted knows DG and reads this forum all the time. He knows not to push ads on us that are going to irritate the members.

Having said that, you should know that you do have the ability to turn off the ads. Go to Tools/Preferences/Ads and take the checkboxes out of both areas and you'll never see an ad again.

The ads don't bother me a bit; it's just the "floaters" that are hard to chase :) Thanks dave!

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

This particular add will continue to appear even if you have them turned off.

I doubt that's true, but you should double check and make sure BOTH checkboxes are unchecked, and that you save the page by submitting it.

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

I had the forum sponsors checked. I really do not mind seeing those. That is probably why I am getting the pop up ad.

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Hey if the floaters are gone I can go back and turn the sponsor ads back on. Good to know.

Port Charlotte, FL(Zone 10a)

Merigold...don't act too soon! I just came online and heard this loud "HELLO" - Scared the living bejeeezus out of me! Nearly knocked a drink into my computer!!!

The ad's talk now!

(an ad for IM smileys!)

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

Haven't heard one of those yet. I did turn back on the sponsor ads...will see how it goes.

Circle Pines, MN(Zone 4b)

Saw another floater today... here is a screenshot.

Looks like it's that same company that was doing the popups before...guess they won't give up!
