Very pretty. Is that a park?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, in Ithaca. About 5 waterfalls through the gorge.

Ok, ok, yeah, yeah, rub it in Victor that your about three weeks earlier than I in the spring bloomers---ok.... maybe a couple more of them too. :~)

Debilou you make me think that I need to go visit this "Buttermilk Falls" area the next time that i'm out that way. It's wonderful.

if it's any consolation onewish, it has taken several years to obtain the little colony. if they find someplace they like, they will come back year after year (or so the animal shows say) and then their families join. The first 2 years that I was here there was maybe only 2 or 3 birds, consistently, but every year there since there's alway another 1 or 2 added to the bunch. There is one that has some very memorable marks so we know that he's been coming back regularly for the last 6 or 7 years. He's also the only one that loves to do "fly byes" when I'm out in the yard. And boy does he let us know when he doesn't like something about the food/feeders to! They will not come up to the feeders if I make it clear, but once they've established themselves for the season, they will tolerate "pink" food. They love it room luke warm and will let it set until it warms up if i've made some in advance and refridgerated it. So, there's what I know about getting the little guys to stay around.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

No photos today, Redchic...rained most of the day and the other part of the day it drizzled.
Anyway, I have hummers just like that, 3 feeders and they stalk me from one window to the next if they are running low on food. They have been here only about a week now, first one, then about 3 , and now I don't count any more. They will stay till early November.

I am loving all your pictures.

Hi Victor, you behaving??

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

That's all right. I'm going to send you my charlie brown pic in a few minutes. Glad to here that someone else gets to have as much fun with the hummers! Yours stay longer than mine though! Isn't there one of the bunch that has more personality than the others? and it's usually the same one that starts stalking you first?

ITHACA IS GORGES!!!!!!
I'm a native and the gorges that were out in the country are in retai developed area, Buttermilk Falls expecially.
If you like to hike Gorges, Taganoch Falls from RT 89(lower entrance) is great. Those falls ate the highest East of the Rockies, higher than Niagara.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Ithaca is Gorge-ous!!! Went to college there from 1967-1971. I don't know what the name of this falls is but we went by it on the way into Ithaca to go up the hill to Ithaca college!! Eleanor

Might be Cascadilla Creek.
I almost forgot the most famous New York State gorge.
Letchworth State park. "The Grand Canion of the east"
This park is south of Rochester in Genesee country.

Hi Sharon! Looks like I have to visit the Ithaca area.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

While your in the Letchworth area check out Linwood Gardens, oldest tree peony growers, the Gratwick 's daughter runs the estate for the public three weekends in MAY when trees are at their best.

Question - Does the Morning Glory have a runner, climber thing like a cuke? Or do you have to manually train it?

Marietta, NY(Zone 5a)

Morning Glories twine around things. I got them in a snow fence once and it was a nightmare to untangle them from it. Had to cut them into little pieces so I could re-use the fence. If they're growing away from the trellis I've always just pushed the tops where I wanted them to grow and they did the rest.

I gently tie the plants to the trellis when they are high enough. Mother nature takes over.M Glories have an internal code that makes them twine and hang on with spiraling shoots.

Will it grow up a tree? Like an oak tree that has rough bark. Will it have enuff of those spiral runners to hang on?

I doubt it .MG's need a wire grid of some kind and the tree will be too shady for the plant that loves full sun.
My girlfriend trained some up a 10 foot stake in her full sun garden ,they looked great.
She just drove the plant support into the ground and let the plants do their thing.

Kewl - Its a dead tree so I thought I would put it to use until DH takes it down :-) Your going to see a tree with MG going up and all around it....

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I would encircle the tree with chicken wire then. It should be novel. I doubt the tendrels would be able to entwine, Bark should have a vine that climbe with little suction cups like ivy.
Good Luck sounds like a GO.

It's so sad to think that those areas are retail devopments now, but at least they preserved them by parks to some extent.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

They are part of a State park system and have to be ther since the 1900's.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I have decided that I just have to get out more and enjoy what's available around me. I know there are a lot of beautiful places to visit. But, not today! Too rainy to take the little one out.

Beautiful MG pic. Love the light shining through the purple bells. Pink tulip that has survived Bambi and the rain showers.
