I'm not sure if it's a tenacious ajuga or a tenacious stump.

This is what happens when your rhody can't fully make up it's mind about whether it want to produce a flower or leaves. I can't wait to see the full results in about month. I have several that did that this year. Normally I might have just 1 every two or three years.

Hello redchick.
At first glance I thought you had=had some luck with "mole tox"

lol. That's awesome. You definitely have the artists eye Jo Ann. If someone would've said look for the rodent design in the bark, I would've been looking all darn day, thanks to your outline... it's completely clear! Boy do I wish that i'd had luck with it!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

that picture is a complete trip to look at! You're a little later than usual this morning. I hope that you slept in!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I was so excited about my trip to the Amish Market for plants, I took a sleeping pill.
I'm outta here in a few minutes.
Back on Sunday. Wish me luck .
I sat on a "focus group" panel for an hour to earn the $100.00 I intend to spend buying annuals.
I will definatly report back on Sunday.

Wow, what a fun weekend. I'm back on day shifts on monday so I'll likely not be chatting much in nearly real time. Have fun!

nice shots Redchic.... the bark picture made me laugh.... thanks

what kind of fritillaria was that beautiful orange one from yesterday? I see it every now and then, but I'm not sure what variety/kind it is.

crown imperial... my warning.. they smell like skunk... the bulbs were so bad I had to take them out of the basement and put them in the garage ....it will look better when the bells fully open in a day or two.... looks like a few i have multiplied... I am wondering if they are all going to bloom using up all that energy... they say unless they get properly fed they will bloom every other year.... the bulbs are the size of a large onion and have a huge crater in the top if you over water it will rot them... mine are planted on an angle to try and avoid that... a few I put sideways to see how they would do... I am trying to make that bed 3 season and don't want to stop watering that area

It's sounds like a good botony experiment going on in your yard! those are always interesting. So.... If they smell like skunk...will that deter the moles then? And do the flowers stink? Those creatures love most any bulb that I plant. I started with 5 fritillaria persica, the next season I had two. Now, I have one and that's only because it has the root system of some larger plants nearly squashing, but also protecting it. since it's squished it doesn't bloom. I would plant a field of them to keep out the critters.

I need some help IDing a couple things I found yesterday.

Can this be morning glories or moon flowers that reseeded themselves?

Also, this little guy is all of 1" tall. Found him hiding behind my drift wood. I don't remember putting anything there.

cute purple anemone! I'd just say thanks to whatever critter brought it from somewhere!

For once a critter is getting a blessing!

lol. so true, and likely just once!

What awesome photos to be seeing this morning! You all are enjoying such wonderful surprises in your gardens this season. Thank you very much for taking the time to upload your photos for all of us to enjoy and to comment upon.

I'm thinking that we need a "Daily" thread now for all of our blooms.

Nanegoat66:

I believe you are correct in assuming that your little seedling is either MG or Moonflower, although to me it looks like MG.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I think MG too, I think Moonflower is bigger.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they are supposed to repel deer and small critters ..... but the deer walked around them and ate the greens on my tulips anyway.... so much for that

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh dear, Allison!
What a heartbreak for you.

In the GH growing. I doubt I have it tagged wrong. It is a MG.

Nice closeup!

So I sit here at the computer this AM, itching to get outside for a few photo shots because the sun isn't all that strong today. I'm still in robe and PJs. The feeling to get outside to photograph the 'babies' is so strong that I convince myself that no one will be up and about this early and I can sneak out with the camera - so I do.

Was I ever wrong!!!!
One group of joggers and three automobiles later I sneak back inside!

But, I got a cool shot of the lilac bush with its beautiful flower buds creating a sweet play of shadows against the east side of the house.

I'm suffering from a severe case of "bloom envy" here in zone 4. Other than daffs, it will be a while before I see any color other than green. Warmer weather can't come soon enough for me. Only 36 degrees here this morning with a wind chill of only 28. Brrrrr. Keep those photos comming, please. They keep me going till I see some of my own!

I hope this one helps with the 'envy'.

Just look at those tulips already with buds! Mine are just a couple of leaves, no buds in sight yet. I noticed the azalea & rhododendron(?) blooms they are gorgeous. Nothing here yet, just some buds. Patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue,.......(LOL)

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'll encourage you like everyone else here encouraged me ... hang in there. It will happen.

Rhinebeck, NY(Zone 5b)

Nanegoat66: Like Candyce, I also think your seedling is a MG. Last year, the Grandpa Ott Morning Glory from the year before seeded itself in all over the place. They are really delightful, dark purple with red-streaked throats. I just noticed a few coming up already around my stone patio! Hope yours are something pretty, too!

Daisygrrl

PS: Have never had Heavenly Blue seed itself in here, however.

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

Thanks for your help every one. Sherrie - that pic did the trick. I had both Heavenly Blue MGs and MF planted on my trellis last year so I was hoping that's what these were. I think I'll wait 'til they're stronger before moving them.

Thanks rc for for the anemone id. My critters were busier than I thought!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Onewish, I'm sooooo sorry to hear about your dear... But, it was a lovely thought.

Mattsmom...you're handling it all verywell. I think that I would be going insane and would do everything possible to move.

Nanegoat... there are a lot of different types of anemone's out there. I can't think of them all so much right now. Someone else might have a better idea of what species, but I'm leaning towards Anemone blanda.

Tomah, WI

My grandchildren are here or I wouldn't mind a couple of zones warmer! My dh threatens to relocate every winter!LOL

haha.

good that you're there for them though!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the good news is the deer ate them before the buds were showing... some actually put up buds.. I sprayed everything with my liquid fence and hope they don't return

found out what the little flying critter is.... a bee fly
