Gardener2005`s Morning Glories

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I decided to start my own personal thread as way of recording and remembering some of the morning glories I`m growing this year. This morning I found a double kikyo with a green variegated leaf and the F3 result of the seeds from a F2 selection that was in one of my grow outs I did last year. Karen

I`ll follow this one a bit and post more later. Karen

I have to grow all of these seeds I have out so none are available. This is very much a work in progress. :)

Oh boy, I love that purpurea too... is that a cross also.. wow, it is just gorgeous.

Now that Double Platycodon is something!!! I've not seen any with variegated leaves on that type, except Ten Ten.. Hopefully you'll get singles and get lots of seeds!!! I love it.. Great Job Karen.

Gourd, I was hoping since I used a vine that produced singles and doubles plus could make seeds that I`d get a vine that could make seeds. This flower has some pollen bearing parts stuck to the petal like structures but it wasn`t releasing pollen this morning which isn`t unusual for the first flowers on a vine anyway. I`ll post more details about the fertility later on.

The pink purpurea is from some seeds I gathered "after the fact" off vines that had two varieties growing together which were single white purpureas and double very pale pink feathered blooms. Then I start some seeds from that batch and here is a bloom nothing like either in the bunch of vines where I got the seeds! It might be a cross done by the bees because one had some cuts in the petals and a tiny bit of feather on the side. Let`s see if this single turns double later on? I`ll follow that one too just to see.

Very nice blooms Karen. I love the dbl blue but the pink purpurea is gorgeous.
I still feel so pink deprived from last yr. lol
I loved all your blooms last yr but one of my favorites was the blue and
white striped bloom you had placed on your car bumper. If you see it would you please send it again?

Well, I hope you get a lot of seeds to try out.

I'll have company from New Orleans this weekend, so I won't be posting much..

I see blotchy steaks on the blue and it has sort of a cloudy effect. (side view)

Lavender hige with reddish purple spots. More later, Karen

Patootie, I`m growing those lavender/mauve blizzard JMG again to see if they will come back from seed. They aren`t lavender because when I put them up to a lavender spoked fuji they definitely had a more rose/ mauve tone in there. I`ll put those here when they bloom! Karen

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanx Karen, I'll be watching for the pics. Love the lavender hige.

Karen, I have one of your pink choclate grow out's that Cindy brought me this week end. It is in a special place with no other MG"S around. I can't wait to see what it is going to turn out to be. I haven't done any seeds this year so she brought me one of hers.
I love this one you are showing, it is very nice.

Hi Sandra, Thanks! I`m going to start a thread for the grow out real soon. This one is Pink X Chocolate F2 grow out. I have a picture of some I grew out last fall but they are stuck on my old computer. Now I`m going to try and transfer them over to my new one, post the introduction picture and leave it open for anyone who wants to share a picture anytime this summer. I think it will be fun. :)

Yes, it will, but it will be a whle before we get a bloom here. It is about 4 inches tall now--lol
I can't wait to see what it looks like.

Hi Sandra, Mine are about the same. They will come out probably a lot of different ways. I`ll wait about another 4 weeks because it generaly takes 6-8 weeks from seed to blooms.

Here`s another of the lavender with what looks like purple spots today and some variation in the flowers is normal.

Hi gourd, yes I do love the morning glories. It is pretty hard to find something that blooms that I don't like--lol
I got to meet Karen last fall at the LA swap at Jeri's house, she is so sweet and shared her seeds with us there. I can't wait to see what the grow out seed flower will look like, it looks like the leaves are going to have a little variegation on them.

This is the first Fuji shibori flower I have seen in person. Thank you Joseph(Gerris2) I have some others from Gourd I want to share.

This year I took out a little bit of everything I got in trades and some were gifts I didn`t ask for so now I have the honor of saying Thank You. :)

It had reddish color in it too. I wondered if it might be because it was raining all day yesterday.

Close up. bye/bye for now, Karen

I found that Fujishibori was all blue speckled when it first opened, then its color changed to the reddish color you see in your photograph.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Gorgeous bloom

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Fujishibori is pretty. It is new and exiting to me because because I have never grown it before. I really like it.

The reddish streaks are probably from water running through the about to open bloom all day before. The picture was taken about 7 ish in the morning. I may see the color change if it gets cloudy but usually the hot sun will cook it and shrivel it so often I will not get to see that particular color change.

I had my first bllom today from Kohkan-but my camera cord is not at this computer. Maybe I will get it on here tomorrow! Will the blooms get bigger as they flower or are they smaller in the pot? I thought Kohkan had larger blooms, mine are about the size of purpurea. Thanks-Kath

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Karen - Your Fujishibori is lovely! I think I have some seeds ... or maybe not ... don't know ... will have to check later. But I like it, too!

Kath - I have a Kohkan that is growing now, too. I can't wait to see the blooms on mine! I hope you can post a photo. I, too, thought the blooms were supposed to be large. Maybe they will get bigger as the vine grows?

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the complimets. My garden was so quiet his morning. It was chilly the last few nights so the flowers are all half closed.

Kathy- Kohkan is a large flower JMG. The size of the blooms depend a lot of growing conditions. The first flowers are large and get smaller toward the ends of the vine unless you prune it and then you can get larger blooms with all things being adequate for the plants needs. Checkout this thread I stold from the sticky thread.

Karen, that flower is so pretty, it sure does look big. Did you try counting the ribs on it. It looks like they are buried in the ruffles.. I love it.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I think it has eight folds but it wasn`t more than somewhere between 3 - 4 inches across. The plant isn`t quite well due to almost damping off as a seedling so it was held back in growing and blooming but I have been babying it and it is finally beginning to heal and grow more.

try watering it with superthrive/watered down.. and keep it warm if you can..lol, believe me that has happened here alot.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Gourd, I noticed the stem has a nice dry scar from the previous infection and it is showing a lot of new growth so I`m hopeful. :)
